Huge thanks!!!! It took two full days before our fridge would get so-so cool. Plugged in a $7.00 fan from Amazon. We’re lucky in that our rig has USB plugs right next to the fridge. Plugged that little bad boy in and boom!!! Worked like a charm. Three hours later, it’s colder than the shoulder my mother in laws gives me. THANK YOU!!!!!
I will put ice packs or chill packs in the freezer 2 hours before i want to use it and it gets down to temperature in just a few hours. Before it would take 2 days on gas alone.
I added a triple fin fan inside our 4 door fridge as well as two fans outside at the bottom and 2 at the top door to help push the heat up the back of the fridge and to blow the heat out of the top fridge compartment. One little trick I did was to arrange the drain line in the back to have a trap in it before it exists the bottom door. This stops any warm air from traveling up the line into the fridge. Might seem insignificant but I figure anything I can do is worth it.
Thank you for the video. Been trying to solve this problem (other than moving land to Canada, Alaska, Upper Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, NM) Our land is in Texas so the heat is always a factor. We did think of a fan (not wired ) but did not think of running cord out of door. When generators are off we plan to hook fan cord to very little portable battery.
Our fridge came with fans on those black vents outside. For the inside, I mounted a computer fan and wired it in to the light on the inside of the fridge, but behind the lights switch so the fan stays on when the door is closed. The fan turns on and off when I turn the fridge on and off. That trick has worked for me for 3 years now. :Nic
Wow that's great. We just ran ours to the USB plug and let it run all tht time unless it was a cool day and the fridge was able to keep up. Thanks for the tips and for watching! Take care!
Thanks for the video. My fridge won’t get cold so I put a fan in and cleared off the top shelf like you said. The temp dropped but I still had to go to town and buy 4 bags of ice till o figure this out. ❤
There is a temp sensor on the fins. Looks like a mini torpedo with a wire attached to it. If you slide that up or down on the fin, it also controls how cold it gets.
I just watched your door/flapper replacement video It appears you replaced your Dometic in this video with a Norcold in that video. If you did, when did you do it, and why did you do it. Great suggestion on this video, which I'm going to do.
Hello sir, We did not replace the fridge, we replaced the camper. 2 Different units, the Dometic was in the travel Trailer. The Norcold is in our toy hauler.
I have an old camper that wasn't cool enough, but the freezer froze stuff. I drilled one 1/2 inch hole straight up from the top of the refrigerator into the freezer section. No fan needed!
I wonder how a dehumidifier canister would work in the freezer would allow the use of ice maker in these types of rv refrigerator? Just a thought! Great video though! I have one of those fans for my modem, I will try it in my fridge next summer!
Hello! That's something we've never thought of, I would think the "liquid" that is collected would freeze 🥶?? We use our table top ice maker now and love it , saves freezer space! Thanks for watching and let us know how you make out with the fan!!
Wow, what a great idea, I've been thinking about trying to wire a fan into the light switch of our Dometic. I think our fridge is the same model as yours but your idea looks much easier so I'm going to give it a try first. Did you put any fans on the backside? We almost always get sites that put the backside of the fridge in the sun most of the day. The fridge works much better on the rare occasion when we get a site that has shade on the fridge side. Yep, I ask about the shade when I make reservations but with so many campers in the parks, these days it's hard to be too demanding.
We always stuffed our 14 year old fridge and it worked awesome, there is a shelf so you should be able to put stuff on that shelf. These new ones are crap. Where is your thermister or do you have one?
Would you please share details about the fan you use and also “in the back” you mean outside? I apologize for my ignorance. I’m not a seasoned rvier. My fridge is at 59. And I’ll be staying in Florida for a week.
@@evasilvalayton758 Hi Eva. I placed the fan inside, between the top of the fridge, where it gets hotter, and the grille on the van wall. Outside would work as well, but not so sightly. The important thing is to remove the hot air trapped inside so the system runs better with a lower temperature around the back of the fridge. --- This is the fan I used, I just cut the two end tubes just so the central part with the fan remains, it's pretty powerful. A PC fan is a lot less powerful, even if you use two of them: www.amazon.com/CO-Z-Marine-Waterproof-Electric-Compartments/dp/B08R9RQMVC/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=marine+blower+heating&qid=1623570765&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFHU09MUldLQVI2UjkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAzMjA0NjdWRzRSVzdSNFdRRDUmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDE3NzA5NTJFTUtBNUpNNVNZWjUmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

@@TheCampoholics it’s 6° right now and falling & snowing here near Custer the Southern Black Hills of SD. Gonna get around -20° here next couple nights. But the next summer 100° temps these tips are needed. Been living with my old 2007 Norcold since 2018 & summer is hard to maintain even temps. Having a issue with that same fridge when working on electric 🤷♂️ it’s getting pretty hot even on 5 setting , but dose seems to work good on gas any idea 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ thank you , happy camping ✌️
There is an electric heating element that eventually goes bad and doesn't get as hot as it should. If propane works but electric doesn't work nearly as well that is probably the issue. Usually it isn't hard to locate and replace yourself, it will be behind the fridge under the outside panel. Should have a schematic inside the panel that you can follow the wires to find it and get the part numbers off it.
In the winter the fridge freezes in the summer the fridge is an oven. How can they sell fridge that doesn't work?🤬 100 degree days it gets 80 degrees naturally 😮😎
It's a constant battle. Though we never had those issues. It didn't freeze nor did it ever get above 45 (that was the middle of July ) I agree there should be a better option but I am sure there's limitations when it comes to RV's. Just glad the hack solved the issues for us! Thanks for watching! Happy Camping

Clever, so simple.
How do you adjust the temperature on the refrigerator because I have the same one and it only stays at 66?
You should have the option to select between 5 and 1. 1 being the coldest if I recall.
What temperature do you keep the freezer? Our fridge is smaller and not so much space but definitely going to try this!!
So if I understand your question, on the domestic, once we put the fan in we left the unit on 4 or 5 setting. Does that answer your question?
We always stuffed our 14 year old fridge and it worked awesome, there is a shelf so you should be able to put stuff on that shelf. These new ones are crap. Where is your thermister or do you have one?
