I would raise the back row of tables in the tech booth. Make like a mini stage in the tech booth. So that you could sit up higher than the people in front of you
i 2nd this, the mix would be influenced by whats going on in the room. and checking phase might be an issue as your gonna be just feeling loads of bass through your body and your brain just couldn't focus. clouded judgment!
Agree. No seasoned livestreamer would want their mix setup to be anywhere near the live sound. Noise cancelling headphones are no shortcut. They don't cancel out, as pointed out by JD Kramer, the "feel" of sound.
Sooo agree. I totally blew last week’s stream mix because the bass in the house was bleeding through my Sony nc headphones and I killed the bass in the stream mix and it just sounded tinny. Our new building will have a soundproofed broadcast production room on the side of the booth so cabling will be easier.
Being at a church that has all the resources (tools) I need to make things better in worship ministry is a blessing. I'm Blessed to be at a church like.
Sup Jake, I really enjoy watching your videos. Could you do a tech tour of (Joel Osteen's) Lakewood Church , Texas in the future, I would really like to see what they are doing different from other churches. Love from Kenya.
5:40 Yes to Chuchfront Live Workshops! Interested in resident tech courses/conferences - especially regarding lightning. We bought a 16 universe jands l5, and I'm completely overwhelmed.
A stream deck could allow you to control the lighting and the lyrics on that computer and the stream deck app can make the controls more useful and mobile
Your idea to be able to do video switching in two places is ideal. We do that with the switcher and atem control in our broadcast room and I can easily do the switching in house with strata light on ipad and a mulitiview monitor fed hdmi over ethernet to the back booth sound / Pro Presenter area. Next for us is to separate Pro Presenter from Light key . Too often we've needed to adjust lighting and can't while the ProP person is running slides.
Are you going to do an update video on this? On how well the Mini has worked with PP7 and streaming? Specifically lag and such and the different feeds you send out, imag, foyer, etc. Thank you!
I'll come to work lol . On the broad cast area I would raise the floor a bit and put a fake wall slash glass wall so they can see and have some seperation and sound dumping in the vidio both and daw mix area. Basicly a control room right behind them . It would make vioce and singles cues between each area posable and have some seperation
@churchfront an ipad wirelessly linked to a stereo bus 10-11 as an example for live stream set up in another room is a perfect set up, just add a good compressor at the end of the chain.... my dmx3.0 is a very user friendly cheap lighting set up, keep it simple less failure points
That station setup is exactly how we vision our workstations at our church @victoryinternationalchurch. Our FOH is a little tight se we've got a room on stage left for our broadcast studio.
Love the idea of having lyrics, lighting, video cutting, etc on seperate machines with seperate ops IF you have the manpower. Automating lyrics and lighting is great for smaller churches with limited production manpower but it's not the dream, ya know? Love the idea of cutting video and mixing broadcast from that second row. If pro is going to be manned for lyrics it sketches me out to have someone else running lighting on same machine with just a midi controller because they'd essentially be blind.
Currently I am new into the amount of Tech I am doing into this church and I am having a few issues. At the moment we use ProPresenter 7 that has our worship slides and layers for sanctuary and livestream. We also input our stream key into the pro presenter. Then a second computer we have running the ATEM Mini Pro software. From the ATEM Mini Pro I have a feed going out into a few live output monitors which fade between our worship camera and stage camera for the sermon. I am able to make this all work, but have problems with looping occurring. I have put our audio input into a tablet which we use only to run in house music before and after the service. our ProPresenter Computer does not have audio coming out. Then our ATEM Mini Pro computer we have an input for secondary video input for announcements. I know this may be wrong, but I am not sure exactly how to make it better at the moment. Currently if we have the Atem plugged into the computer with pro presenter we get looping so I have separated this, and now with a new computer I still am getting looping. (maybe with all things routing through the ATEM. I currently dont know how to make it different and if we separate our streaming I lose lyrics on the livestream and if I connect it to pro presenter it loops audio even worse. So right now we have lyrics and play no videos to not have the looping issue. Not sure if this makes sense but would love some feedback.
Hey guys. I'd recommend a DAW that can benefit from a surface control with motorized faders. We use Mixbus paired with a Behringer X-Touch and an Extender for 16 faders. Nothing beats to mix multiple channels at once instead of one by one with a mouse.
good luck with those M1s friend!! I really want to know how that ends up working for you. There is a serious limit to what they can do when it comes to video output and I feel you will find limits quickly. Please keep us posted. I love tech and do a ton of research if you ever need anyone to bounce ideas off of, my door will always be open for you!!!
Just curious why the switch to Resi? Checking out the vides, the stream looks great. We're a small church and Resi is a HUGE investment. We upgraded our internet to 35mbps up and so don't know if I can justify $1400 for 80 people watching :)
Hi. We are currently building our church hall down in South Africa. I am the head of technical department in the church, would love to pick your brains on some topics
I thought the M1 Mac Minis only supported two outputs. Does that change when you hook up the fancy video output device to it? If so That's a great solution. Also, I think you are going to be very unhappy with mixing broadcast audio in the sanctuary. You definitely need some isolation from the room sounds no matter how noise blocking your headphones are. We setup a room in our basement last summer and the mix improved tremendously. All it would take are a couple of wires (or something wireless like a wireless mic setup) to a remote room so that you can listen to a mix from the WIng. You can use an iPad to mix it.
I would build an isolated booth in the sound booth so they are right there but the sound engineer for the live stream doesn’t have to fight the sound of the room while mixing for the live.
Wow!! Jake you moved from Mission Lakewood😞. But I’m excited for you to be serving at South Fellowship Church!! I know South Fellowship is going love being the guinea pigs now 😂
I think for ProPresenter you should use a higher DPI screen. (4K, at least 2K) We tried a 24“ 1080 screen and returned it because we could not read the text on the thumbnails. The M1 will handle it fine I think.
There are definitely pros and cons to isolating the Director and broadcast mixer. At my church we do, but it also makes it harder to feel the atmosphere of the room.
Hey Jake, Thanks again for your videos. As mentioned in previous emails and Facebook posts, I would be interested in coming to CO for some training. I'll stay tuned for more information. Side question: Currently, our stage display is not working. It will drop the signal during our services. And we recently purchased a new mac mini to run ProPresenter on and I am wondering if our monitor isn't compatible or our mac mini isn't powerful enough to support each display because that monitor is showing a purple screen. I appreciate any help.
Hey Jake, FYI Dante VSC not supported on M1 macs yet. Check the Audinate site FAQ. I’ve also had issues with the M1 Mac mini not scaling the second output properly using BMD hdmi to SDI converters.
Has any experience Pro 7 being supper laggy when opening or freezing at some point and time to the extent of having to force power cycle Mac Mini?! 2018 Mac Mini Big Sur 8gb Ram The only solution I've found, only temporarily works, and that's renaming the ProPresenter folder to something else so that when your open ProPresenter fresh it will immediately open, then you transfer the older folders to the new ProPresenter folder that was created, but that will last temporarily and then it automatically goes back to take anywheres to 2 mins or longe to open. I am unsure how, if at all, stable Pro 7 is with M1 Mac Mini as we can't afford to switch if there's isn't really any reliable stable versions or support for that matter. Thanks in advance! Very helpful channel and resources!
If you guys get vista you can program the board to one button to were you going there the song the only have to hit one button then the next scene starts
check out streamdeck companion. We use it with ATEM TV studio (for general controls and to trigger macros), ProPresenter, OBS, and the X32 mixer. We also use it to keep track of stream status and number of live youtube viewers. Pretty sweet!
Heyo, I'm an owner of a company in Greeley, Colorado, Stone and Oak Audio, and we specialize in church audio and network integration on a small church budget. I'm the audio director at City Lights Church in Greeley. I'd love to work with you guys, just to geek out with y'all on some tech, and offer any consultation we can. Great new location there sir!
A separate broadcast mix room is going to improve the broadcast audio. If you go Dante, then you can have two locations for limited volunteers or staff. Having the isolation will be the objective quality difference. Also, Mac has great os architecture, tends to run more solid. You should look into the intel nucs, get a 10th gen i7 with thunderbolt 3 for about $850, super machine in a small form factor. Just some thoughts.
Hey Jake when you start talking about moving two people to the back - do you have the room to enclose that ? Video and Streaming Audio desk operations can get a little noisy... :)
Ableton currently doesn't work natively with the M1, and Dante virtual soundcard doesn't work at all, even with Rosetta. If you're planning on using that for the broadcast mix you won't be able to use an M1 mac mini.
I am working to switch to Ableton for broadcast mix. I have done 1 test and have a ton of questions. Where can I get a good template? Where do you route the master out to (board, Atem)? What is the best way to monitor the mix? Do you record simultaneously with Arrangement view and are there any latency issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Question for everyone. I am getting a new Mac and have two routes I can go. M1 MacBook Pro 16in by itself. or M1 air 13in. And an M1 Mac mini. Will be used for various things. Video editing, graphics, main stage, pro presenter builds, etc. thinking the air for music mobile stuff and the mini for a desktop setup. But the MacBook Pro has a better chip? Thoughts?
What midi controller are you going to use for lights? I’m using launchpad and I think that akai APC 20 seems to be better for lights control cause it has both buttons and faders, but it’s old.
Any difficulties doing the broadcast mix in the same hall as the worship? I'm finding it not easy and ending up getting the mix in the ballpark. Then adding compression to the final mix in the atem mini pro to help balance out the sound.
I found a trick to run one screen out of the USB-C and another out of the HDMI but if you are doing a stage display too, then I'm not sure how you would add that third screen. Doesn't make sense why Apple configured this on something that already needs something to hookup the main monitor.
We have that same exact pro presenter setup running lightkey with an M1 Mac mini and you’re gonna run into some problems. You’re not able to run a main display for the Mac mini, an expansion chassis, and a monitor for lightkey all together on a m1 Mac mini because of the lack of display support :(
Hey guys! We just installed a M1 Mac with the Sonnet Chassis with 2 Intensity Pro 4ks and a deck link duo 4K. I was able to get the computer to recognize the chassis but the video setup was not able to recognize the cards. Did you have this issue at all?
I would raise the back row of tables in the tech booth. Make like a mini stage in the tech booth. So that you could sit up higher than the people in front of you
So glad to have you with us, Jake!
The broadcast audio mix would benefit from being in another room so you're not mixing with the headphone bleed from the live sound.
i 2nd this, the mix would be influenced by whats going on in the room. and checking phase might be an issue as your gonna be just feeling loads of bass through your body and your brain just couldn't focus. clouded judgment!
Agree. No seasoned livestreamer would want their mix setup to be anywhere near the live sound. Noise cancelling headphones are no shortcut. They don't cancel out, as pointed out by JD Kramer, the "feel" of sound.

We've used a mac mini for pro presenter for years now and had absolutely no issues at all with it!

I saw... I was watching South Fellowship yesterday while looking at ramdom church livestreams. I was like... Why is jake here!!?? Sounds cool.
It was also in a previous tech tour.
So glad to have you here!
Sup Jake, I really enjoy watching your videos. Could you do a tech tour of (Joel Osteen's) Lakewood Church , Texas in the future, I would really like to see what they are doing different from other churches. Love from Kenya.

Companion is a good option, but not always needed.
You can open another window in ableton to see both arrangement and session view at the same time. The shortcut is cmd+shift+w actually! :)
Congrats! I'm happy for this next chapter for you!
We would totally go to Colorado for a ChurchFront workshop
Congrats on the move, sounds like it's gonna be a good fit.
I enjoy your livestream always... Well-done Jake. Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
Do you have just one Mac mini run your pro presenter screens for lyrics and scripture? It can handle that? If so how do you connect them all?
Yes!!!!! I would come with a few people from our church, we would love and definitely could use some hand on training!
Your idea to be able to do video switching in two places is ideal. Do a time-laps while changing stuff over there, it would be cool.
And maybe do a series like how to get a church tech side starting out.
Paint the back area dark. Put sound proof room dividers in front of the table.
We just bought a M1 Mac mini 16 gb memory and it work great for Live streaming 😀
YES please to a conference!
I would love the Churchfront Live Workshop ❤️👍🏾
Did you leave Mission Lakewood?
I think so because on the south fellowship Instagram he’s role is a worship arts resident 👍🏾😌
Are you going to do an update video on this? On how well the Mini has worked with PP7 and streaming? Specifically lag and such and the different feeds you send out, imag, foyer, etc. Thank you!
I would come to Colorado for a tech conference. I would bring my team leaders as well.
The sonnet chassis can be adapted from T3 to T2. I did an LED wall re wire at a church running a 2012 Mac Pro into one. Just use a T3 to T2 Adapter.
“Magic Mouse, the worst thing ever” - AMEN Brother! 🤣
We use an iMac for both Pro Presenter and our lighting software, with a Launch pad to trigger lighting cues. Works great!
I'll come to work lol .

Colorado? How did I not know this. I’d be super interested in an on-site training!

You can program propresenter to use midi cues to talk directly to lightkey as certain slides are hit.

Right now your presentation operator is who manages the live stream? Is your new video cutter person going to manage that going forward?

You can setup ableton in two monitors, one for the mixer and the other for the arrangment

I have Ableton and studio one. S1 would be a much better choice for that purpose. Should check put sound grd by wnaves
Totally dont live in colorado, but im in the market to join a church and get hands on training, oh well haha. But any instructional videos are welcome
Also, this looks exactly like what i used to do, buying and trying a billion different things and reimagining the booth 😂
Hey Jake when you start talking about moving two people to the back - do you have the room to enclose that ? Video and Streaming Audio desk operations can get a little noisy... :)
HAHA. You answered my question later THanks. lol
So Jake's not at Mission Lakewood anymore?
Jake, are you experiencing overscan with your display monitor connected via HDMI on the Mac Mini M1?
I got a question. The thunderbolt expansion works with the M1 Mac Mini?
Ableton currently doesn't work natively with the M1, and Dante virtual soundcard doesn't work at all, even with Rosetta. If you're planning on using that for the broadcast mix you won't be able to use an M1 mac mini.
Can both the thunderbolts on Mac mini be used as separate displays (with adapters) AS WELL as the HMDI? so 3 displays altogether?
I am working to switch to Ableton for broadcast mix. I have done 1 test and have a ton of questions. Where can I get a good template? Where do you route the master out to (board, Atem)? What is the best way to monitor the mix? Do you record simultaneously with Arrangement view and are there any latency issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The Mac mini for pro, do you have the ability to add a confidence monitor with the other displays?
Question for everyone. I am getting a new Mac and have two routes I can go. M1 MacBook Pro 16in by itself. or M1 air 13in. And an M1 Mac mini. Will be used for various things. Video editing, graphics, main stage, pro presenter builds, etc. thinking the air for music mobile stuff and the mini for a desktop setup. But the MacBook Pro has a better chip? Thoughts?
Question about your electric drum kit set up, is it hooked up on drum module just on Main R and L only going to a D.I box and on board on 2 channels?
Hello Jake, do you know hackintosh? Maybe would be interesting a video about this
I have an M32 Live at FPH now - thinking about getting a WING for FOH and moving the M32 to Broadcast,, any thoughts?
I don't think the 1080p monitor would be a problem, unless you know something you're doing on that computer is specifically very GPU intensive.
You re a fan of the Wing, but what about the Presonus studiolive 64s?
Very curious to hear how the decklink duo performs in the external PCI-box with the m1 Mac Mini.
Do you think you will be able to run, say, the Luke Hendrickson Ableton broadcast template with all the plugins on only 8GB Ram for a live setting?
That would be the best job
Do you still stand by this set up? Do you regret it at all?
What midi controller are you going to use for lights? I’m using launchpad and I think that akai APC 20 seems to be better for lights control cause it has both buttons and faders, but it’s old.
Any difficulties doing the broadcast mix in the same hall as the worship? I'm finding it not easy and ending up getting the mix in the ballpark. Then adding compression to the final mix in the atem mini pro to help balance out the sound.
Was wondering how the base model mini turned out for propresenter and lightkey. Was it enough or did you need to change to more RAM?
To controll light and propresenter mac I would totaly go for a streamdeck or 2
I think demarcation will be better so that the sound engineer can have full concentrate on mixing out sound console
So no more Lakewood Mission Church?
Do you not have any issues with the new M1 Mac mini trying to run multiple displays? I heard you can only run the M1 mini to one display.
I found a trick to run one screen out of the USB-C and another out of the HDMI but if you are doing a stage display too, then I'm not sure how you would add that third screen. Doesn't make sense why Apple configured this on something that already needs something to hookup the main monitor.
Why do you still choose to go with the eGPU on the Mac Minis rather than a PC with dedicated PCI cards?
Can’t you use propresenter 7 to control lyrics and scriptures in house and online?
We have that same exact pro presenter setup running lightkey with an M1 Mac mini and you’re gonna run into some problems. You’re not able to run a main display for the Mac mini, an expansion chassis, and a monitor for lightkey all together on a m1 Mac mini because of the lack of display support :(
Does this mean your not at the other church now?¿
Jake come redo our church.. We got a low budget tho... and we dont do much
I’m a keyboard shortcut guy, so using the PC keyboards with a Mac is like my biggest pet peeve lol
Hey guys! We just installed a M1 Mac with the Sonnet Chassis with 2 Intensity Pro 4ks and a deck link duo 4K. I was able to get the computer to recognize the chassis but the video setup was not able to recognize the cards. Did you have this issue at all?
