Thanks! But I don't think my process is anything special. I am just decent at spotting good candidates for a crack and press. That comes from looking and tens of thousands of comics
New to your channel, but not super new to comics. I don't own a graded comic, nor have I sent one it yet. But your videos are definitely a great tool for better knowledge of such a great hobby.
Another great video. I love these "beginning to end" episodes. I was talking you up, big time, on a Livestream this weekend that was covering the CBC Awards. I fully believe (and was sharing) that you are the best new channel to watch for the "Restoration and Pressing" category. You deserve the award, sir!
Another great result, thanks for the detailed video! I would suggest more footage, maybe even a separate video, on your spine tick removal process, showing the chamfered backer board you use to support the cover, your method for adding spot moisture when needed, and use of the tack iron at regular speed.
I actually recorded a spine tick video yesterday. But then I made a discovery right after and now I have to re-record it lol The reason I haven't made more of that type of content is because I still make tweaks to my process almost daily. A video would become obsolete quickly. Hopefully soon I can get further along and increase my limited knowledge to the point where I can make more of those. Fingers crossed!
Thanks! Funny that you should comment, I was just looking at your website yesterday and am planning to order a few supplies soon. Thanks for stopping by, I watch all your videos!
Great job as always! Congrats! My heat press will be arriving today. I'm so excited! So many of my comics could use a little TLC. Now if only I had half of your skills lol
@@ImproveCollectingComics great tip! If you could outline tips and tricks on how to identify great clean / press candidates for both slabbed and raw books that would be greatly appreciated. I'd imagine its a bit tricker to identify good candidates for raw books given theres not grader notes
This is info provided by KaptainMyke in his books. I don't think it'd be fair to share that info here, unless I develop my own times. His book has all the times for everything
@@ImproveCollectingComics okay I just found them a bit vague besides the fact that he says 24 hours in the cold press. Also the time chart with the temperatures is a little vague as well. It just seems like he could have stated more specifically unless there's a page I'm missing. Thanks
I’ve always wondered if you could use moisture on this book or give it a good press because of the Tattooz. I’ve been afraid that it would either mess the Tattooz up or leave creases on the covers due to them being stapled into the book.
Nice Job. Getting my ASM 238 w/tattooz J.R. JR. signed back from CGC Friday Dec 2nd. They are giving me a grade of 7.5 white pages , I was shocked! This booked was at lease a 9.4 to 9.6 .I looked the comic over with a flashlight with 3x reading glasses on and saw two very very minute ticks on the spine and a light bend by the tattooz outline. I had CGC press the book and then signed by J.R. JR. .Grader notes were light bend to cover and light spine stress to cover. I'm so ticked off right now. I will look the book over when I get it . What should I do? Thanks.
Send me some detailed photos when you get it back. There shouldn't be any "bends" after a press, they need to re-press it for you at least. Also, need to check and make sure they adequately protected the tatooz.. if if isn't done right, it can seriously mess up the book. My email is improvecollecting@gmail.com
Thanks for the video. I am learning to press following Captain Myke, but having trouble especially with bronze books. Wish there was a group to chat with
I find that bronze responds very well to being fixed. I would start a cleaning/pressing forum but don't have a lot of time to moderate... and I think those already exist? Maybe a discord channel at some point
Love you shows so educational. My son and I have begun the collecting and are using all your how to’s on our journey. Please ad us to the free give we would love an opportunity. I have also subscribed to your new letter as well. Thank You and we look forward to the next show.
I think it was that huge bend on the back corner that mainly caused the grade to be so low. And an accumulation of small defects. The bones were good, though, which is why I bought it
@@ImproveCollectingComics Good to know, under the right circumstances, those kind of fixes (eg., pressing, etc.,) can improve the grade of a comic significantly.
I love watching your videos and how attention to detail you place. I would love to send you a golden age comic. Let me know if you take orders and your cost?
Thanks! And I hope to get some golden age at some point, maybe some good horror. And this is just a hobby for me, I don't do it for others. I appreciate the vote of confidence though!
Ok love your videos the stuff you do is amazing…..only thing….you need working music. The silence while your doing stuff is a little jarring. Just some music that tells us your doing stuff and keeps us engaged rather than the sound on your phone didn’t just go out. Just my opinion
I got a dozen or so scam copywrite claims on past videos recently, and it was a pain to fix. I used UA-cam approved free use music too. I am working on an alternative. I did a poll awhile back also and most people hated when I added music. But yeah I agree, definitely something during the working periods is needed. I'll find a solution soon, sorry about that.
@@ImproveCollectingComics i just noticed that a few minutes before you responded. I just bought one off Amazon! Also did not know what book you used and happened to have ordered the pressing book by Mike a few days ago 😁
On my last 4 submissions I got 9.8 9.6 and two 9.2’s with no grader notes really mad with cgc right now not at my grades but if they offer free graders notes where are they 😢
I think all books should get notes, even some 9.8's. My opinion is it's really lazy and makes it difficult for buyers to know exactly what they are getting inside a slab

Great video. Highly enjoyed.
Awesome, thank you!
Nice work. Some of best pressing and cleaning I've ever seen.
Wow, thanks!
Amazing grade bump. It looks pristine after a good clean and press.
Thanks, this one came out really well!
You are a beast at restoring comics.

I’m sitting on a gold mine of minor flawed books

HOLY!!!! That is an incredible bump in grade on a gorgeous book.
Yeah I know.. still can't believe it!
If only every clean/press guy had your skills! Or at least the ones Cgc uses! Great as always! 👍
Thanks for the kind words!
The high volume pressers simply do not take the time necessary to get books to their highest potential.
You sir are a magician.
I am not sure I'd go that far, but thanks! :)
Great video. It's interesting to see the process and the end results in one video. Makes me want to start pressing my own books.
You should! It's very satisfying to see the improvement in grade. Definitely use KaptainMyke's books, a link to them is in the description.
Great job, man! Your hard work and attention to detail usually works out for you. Cheers!
Thanks!
NICE!!! What a great jump! You really do good CPR work. And nice job on that bend on the back cover.
Thanks David. I was actually really surprised at how well that bend came out without a lot of extra effort.
Super killer upgrade
godo job, this is great work and I love that book. I remember considering to remove the tattoos when I first bought my copy!
Thanks! Funny that you should comment, I was just looking at your website yesterday and am planning to order a few supplies soon. Thanks for stopping by, I watch all your videos!
Gotta say - that sure doesn’t look like a 6.5 to begin with.
That is just frickin amazing! Congrats and well deserved!
Thanks!
Definitely crack that 9.6 just grab the tattoos out of FF 252 ! And good luck at the tables ! May all your cards be live and your pots be monsters!
LOL thanks, and RIP Mike Sexton.. miss watching those shows
Great work. Love the content!

You can do it just as well as me really quickly! All I do is what KaptainMyke says.. nothing really special
Love to see hard work paying off. Congrats!
Thanks!
Great video. Is that an Art Adams Spider-Man print on your wall (during the first few mins)?
Thanks! I don't believe it's Art Adams, but could be mistaken. All it says is "trends international," no signature
Congrats 🎉
Book turned out awesome! I am told that Canadian price variants did not come with tattoos, ever here that?
Seems like I did hear that at some point, but not sure
Very impressive!!
Thank you!
Your are pretty amazing with these comics. What advice can you give for Foxing or water stains to help.
My advice is to get @kaptainmyke 's 2nd book.. he explains exactly how to get rid of that type of defect
@@ImproveCollectingComics can you link the book
Well done! Do you have any tips for finding great clean and press books online for big grade bumps (slabs or CGC)? Thanks!
I am going to do a video on this. Look for books with notes that say "bends" and avoid anything that says "creases"
@@ImproveCollectingComics great tip! If you could outline tips and tricks on how to identify great clean / press candidates for both slabbed and raw books that would be greatly appreciated. I'd imagine its a bit tricker to identify good candidates for raw books given theres not grader notes
Would you please let us know what product you use to hang the books on the wall? I really like the clear plastic, thanks!
Sure thing, I list all the products I use on my website at improvecollecting.com
Now I know you have videos on cleaning, but what type of make up pad do you use? Is it chemical free? A plain make up pad etc? Please share.
Plain, lint free pads. All of the products I use are listed at my website, improvecollecting.com
What pressing time did you do on the initial and then the last press? If you could add that to your videos that be great

It's definitely not the easiest book to CPR
@@ImproveCollectingComics Do you do work on other people’s books, like a side-business?

Bronze seems to darken the cover in the press, maybe it’s my imagination

wow...that book didn't actually look that bad BEFORE all the "fixes". I would expect a 6.5 to look far more worn. Shows you just how much I know.

When a book is re-submitted does CGG get notified so the census can be updated?
You have to send in the old labels. I do so every couple of months.
Good job
