A very beautiful Defender, the Grasmere green is a favourite of mine. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos during ownership. I personally like the matching wheels, I also hear you regarding hybrid vehicles. A tough debate depending on use and preference I guess.
I have a P400e charging at work for me and mainly school run, its costing me next to nothing to run. But as soon as you go any distance it falls down. MPG is around 23MPG, but it evens itself out, as we dont do big journeys all the time, the P400e is great
@@mr.slipperman once th ebattery has gone, there always seems to be something from somewhere to pop th epower up but once they get the battery to last longer it will be a marvelous car.
Nice car, it looks even better in person than the initial photos suggested. I agree in preferring the D300. The hybrid makes more sense in countries like France where the car taxes for non-hybrids can be tens of thousands of euro more.
@@cotswoldmusings yes the French CO2 tax charges get pretty eye-watering. Anything over 145g/km is into 4 figures € tax, and anything over 180g/km is into 5 figures €. Basically anything non-hybrid is ridiculously expensive in tax in France.
Tax wise it can save in France, but the French charging network is non-existent (though it is improving very slowly). Diesel makes much more sense in most of France unless you live in one of the really big cities - in 5 years France should be there in timers of charging facilities.
Do you prefer it to your model Y? If you put 18 inch method rally wheels with BFG tires on your Y would you then prefer the model Y or the defender? Reasons for your conclusion would be very helpful.
Hi David, ‘horses for courses’. Completely different vehicles for completely uses. We did 240 miles the other day in the Tesla and didn’t give range or charging a thought. We tow trailers and carry bikes with Defender, where I’m due to do a 600 mile trip soon.
Thanks for this interesting video. I just ordered a 110 D300 75th anniversary, to accompany my sportscar as a daily. I was actually (!) choosing between the Defender and a Tesla Model S (to replace a Maserati Quattroporte v8 GTS)...nice to see that you have both an EV and the D300 Defender. Any considerations about Model S vs Defender ? Thank you
I have ordered a 110 HSE and intending putting some Powerful bits a pieces on so I am interested as to where you have attached the CTEK as I thought the battery was under the drivers seat.
I've never got as bad as 20 mph out of the P400e even with a depleted battery, usually around 26mpg at worst. After handing back a D300 D5 due to multiple breakdowns I'd never have another.
Rory, was the P400e okay to drive in the city with a flat battery? Was the 2L engine up to the job in performance especially in stop start traffic? Is the 2L petrol more noisy than the 3L diesel?
For me large hybrids are only worthwhile if they have a 100km battery range and a 6cyl. These heavy cars that have to be pushed along by a 4cyl when the battery is low make little sense to me. The new Range Rover hybrid system is much better, BMW X5 45e is also good. I drive an XC90 at the moment, nice enough around town, but when the battery is drained it all goes to pot. Too heavy and a tiny little engine.
I'm completely with you on PHEVs. Plug it in every day or don't bother buying one, regardless of the tax breaks. I'm not with you on Grassmere Green though - ok on the bodywork but on the wheels - no!
What I don’t understand,is that 30mpg was standard in the 70s,80s,90s…and so on, so achieving the same mpg 40years later, confuses me as to how it’s acceptable
Vehicle weights are much higher, vastly more powerful / faster, air conditioning etc. On a run I can easily get 36 mpg. Finally it’s got a near 20 gallon tank which if full weighs a lot!
They are taking the piss mate. I like it but LR can charge piss taking money because people are paying it. I’m a land rover guy putting up with their unreliable shit. Disco 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then back to 3 and I have a series 1954. Taking the piss with a shit warranty
Nice video! I have watched your previous ones also. It would be good to see how you upgrade with the powerful uk accessories also!
Yes, I’m going to do a video as soon as I’ve fitted everything on order 😊
Good mileage Rory. I saw an anniversary model in Australia the other day, the black steering wheel looks great. I have a D300 110 arriving soon 🙂
Enjoy 😊

Absolutely and thanks. Looking forward to fitting your 75th decals where I’ll produce a reveal video 😊

Yes, it’s a trade off to balance 😎
Do you ever feel underpowered with 2L engine or there is always help from electric motor to deliver those 5sec 0-60? No matter how long journey is

There are jump start connectors under the bonnet, so I’ve connected to those 😊

Issues with the engine or other parts on the car? Was it the inline 6?
The P300 non-hybrid will quite happily do 20mpg in town driving

Imagine having to manually charge your battery on a brand new car..because you open the doors..come on..
20mpg is not right, 26mpg to 30mpg easily on long journeys.
Admittedly this was worse case with pushing engine on a long journey, plus others have said the same.
With the hybrid or this one?
