  • The cake that nearly broke us. This recipe was published in The Art of Cookery, (1805), and has been tormenting innocent cooks ever since. Is the juice worth the squeeze? Was it worth mixing for 2 hours? Let's see.

Justine, I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have a friend (also in Pittsburgh) who is an expert dressmaker and I'm sure she could adjust your dress to add more room in the bust without altering the design. If this is want you want to do, let me know and I will give you my contact information.
From my experience working with alterations, I advise you to take care of this sooner than later. You might have to order the dress's fabric from France...in order to make it slightly larger. It could take weeks or months just to receive the fabric from Europe.
I wish you the best and appreciate your videos! I've learned a lot from watching them!

Also, the painting on the glass is called reverse painting, because it is done in reverse. by painting the smallest details on the back of the glass first and filling in the larger and larger details till the picture is finished.

I would never make that cake LOL. And Justine- I think you look gorgeous and healthy the way you are. As a person who has worked on many period costumes (mostly for operas and operettas) I know there are ways that a good seamstress can alter it... I know you don't like to think of that, but it's true. Good corsets help also, but I'm sure you know all about that. Anyway... hope something works out for you and I know you will be gorgeous in your dress no matter what. Hugs!! 🥰

Justine. If your wedding dress laces up you can use a stomacher to cover the gap between the lacing. I don't know if it's back or front lacing but you can still use a triangle or rectangle in a similar color or a contrast color. I know you can't get the same fabric but a stomacher would work.

    • @krdiaz8026
      @krdiaz8026 3 місяці тому

Seriously though, the non-educated or less educated nuns did the manual labor like cooking, laundry and growing vegetables, while the more educated ones did the artsy and intellectual stuff, like hand painting sacred books, embroidering altar cloths and priest's vestments, or checking the accounting books. If they only had women from wealthy families, they could hire some of the local women to do the chores. This wasn't a "privilege" thing. It just made sense to assign to the educated nuns the kind of work they did, and likewise to the non-educated, because teaching someone to paint or embroider takes a lot of time. The educated nuns have been painting and embroidering since childhood because that was the "education" given to females at the time. Nowadays, it's more equal since everybody gets more or less the same quality of education, so they rotate chores amongst themselves.

The idea behind so many early American clocks having an image of Mt. Vernon on them, was that we were a young country, and the best we could come up with for decorating our clocks as the Europeans did with their famous castles and palaces - was the home of our Hero - George Washington's Mt. Vernon. It was like.... "Well, we've got Mt. Vernon!"

Called a "Pillar and Scroll" clock - and were made through the 1820s into the 1830s. Has a wooden mechanism, and these were one of the earliest mass-produced clocks in the US. Seth Thomas, Eli Terry, Silas Hoadley, etc. were among the first manufacturers of these. I love it! It's a treasure - hold on to it! (To correct the strike - CAREFULLY move the hour hand to line up with the amount of strikes once it goes off on the hour)
And yes, it's going to be temperamental - the wooden mechanism can even swell and contract with the the weather. Think of it this way....if you were nearing two hundred years old, you can afford to be fussy!

Set the clock hands to the hour that the chimes ring for, then slowly progress the minute hand (large arm) so you hear the progressive chimes ring, until finally the clock syncs to the actual time. I will watch after work. This is always, the highlight of my week. My ❤ to you both. Sending good wishes and blessings to you. P.S. I am still healing from my fall. My shin and knee are still bruised. But, I can walk and stand without pain. I can touch my nose without pain. There is still a stitch in my mouth, that has a scar tissue bump around it. All in all, everything is better. I pray for healing and God supplies it. I also saved my house, from the sherriff's sale. That was with the help of my son, daughter and a very good lawyer. Also, being qualified for widow's benefits helped too. I prayed every minute of the day, that He woke me up for. God made it all possible. I have enough now for the mortgage and arrears repayments per month. It is a load off my mind and soul. It had me spiraling in my depression and panic anxiety watching your videos and the chew and chat, helped me alot. Thank you for what you do and teach us. ❤ Cheryl, the local Subway Sandwich Artist in Pennsylvania. Lol.

Just curious, can you remake your stays to make the dress fit? I’m sure you’ve tried everything, but possibly adjusting the stays might help. 🥲

Interesting history on the Chew and Chat! I like the 200 year old clock especially the Roman numerals. Like the comedy! Rebecca and David Back.

You mentioned fitting into your wedding dress. I have lost weight doing a carnivore diet, seriously the weight came off without even trying and I didn't have to starve myself, I added more non carby veg back in so I guess now I eat keto and feel amazing as well. Please consider it and watch Dr. Ken Bery here on youtube regarding this. 💝

I would get a bunch of 18th Century style and modern dresses made up for you that properly fit you by the same dressmaker who will redesign and resew your wedding dress. You are going to be busty and curvy your whole entire life, may as well embrace it. There is really no other way. You cannot fit into a 17th century reproduction wedding dress that was designed to fit a sixth grader, when you area healthy 28 year old young woman built like Pamela Anderson from Baywatch.

And honestly, I think a lot of these girls who got married 250-300-400 years ago WERE around 12 or 13,( which today, a child marriage at age 12, would be considered strange) which TOTALLY explains why that dress will never properly fit YOU.

I had some family over for dinner Sunday. I made that chocolate cream dessert (1830) and decided to make another cream( no chocolate) and added lemon extract, was amazing. I was telling them about the recipe and how they call it a receipt and I had to look up what a gill of cream was. Then they started talking to me about this you tube channel about this woman that makes these old recipes from that time period over an open fire. Justine......you have been fascinating my children!! I laughed so hard !!! I said I love that channel and the Chew and Chat!!! We were laughing how we all love this channel and didn't even know we were all watching it. But I have watched all the videos...except the roasted racoon.....😮....I hate racoons...personal reasons. Lol! Take care!

Kind of funny about the rose water; my dad used to put rose water in filling of a strawberry pie! Others seemed to like it. I don't really remember how it tasted though.

I've been watching since Oct. 2020. You and Ron had jobs other than the UA-cam videos. Are you able to devote all your energies to this and home building since you have become so incredibly popular. That would be the perfect scenario especially once the house and summer kitchen are finished.
