Eli, I was gifted a banjo last year from my father-in-law who is 90 and never played it. It has only four strings and I can't find any maker's mark on it. What do I have and should I try to learn on it?

If you want to play Bluegrass style you will need a five string. Four string banjos are commonly played for traditional, Celtic or other styles. Banjohangout has plenty of experts to ask about the banjo, though most are Bluegrass.
