I was either 6 or 7 when I started riding (and eventually inheriting) my Nanas 76 elan. Single cylinder, white w/the 3 penguins on the side. Man,I'd LOVE to have one of those again!! Love this channel, mostly for the Elan stuff, but ALL the content is excellent👍 Thank you from the states🇺🇸!!!
Great video! I found you because of your old vintage how-to vids and kept watching. Im excited for this series because I'm a vintage guy (that's all I can afford!)
Just starting on my 1972 Nordic 640ER that's been in my family since new. I Look forward to following along with you for tips as I do mine. Great use full series. Thank you for posting it.
My first snowmobile, I must have broken and replaced about 10 bogie wheel springs over the years I drove it and when I think about it I was only 11 years old. My next sled was a Polaris Colts 250 SS. Back then we only had 3 TV channels, a party line telephone and video games hadn't been invented yet so I put 1000's of miles on those sleds.
Dad bought a holdover 300 in 2007. Super fun. You don't even need snow to boondock lol. 550 would be even better. I wish it had an odometer. Lots of wide open miles on that thing.
Great video I love these old sleds. They are the most reliable sleds still running after 60 plus years now that is something to say about a sled as reliable as those single cylinders they are hard to beat!
Lmao! Perfect! That's what I was thinking! Safe! You need to see a light on the trail, no one is going to be staring at the ass of a snow mobile to see if the light changes!
I'm glad you fixing that Elan Up, I love The sleds of my day, Don't get me wrong, I love my 2012 sled, I just don't want them to disappear, There Classic's
WHAT ? 200 $ for that legend :O ! you sir are lucky ! In Quebec, they are rare, and rarely they're in this good condition. you'll pay min 400 for one that is in working condition only (most of the time the cab is completly screwed) and about almost 600-1k for one that is as good as this one !
I had a 71 like this and the throttle cable was toast on it. Ended up using one off of a 95 Mach z that fit almost the exact same. Had to fit it a little differently but it works well
If it runs good then leave it alone and buy quality snowmobile gear - you'll enjoy the ride even more! Motorfist clothing and helmet, waterproof and light weight!
I recall the 68's as well. Some with fuel tanks built into the chasis via steel tube . Carbs were the at times finnicky tillotsons , popping the plug was simple. As the years of snowmobiles progressed, I was boggled in that you kind of had to remove 75 peices of machine to change a plug/s. They sure won't make em like they used to. All these computer chips and stuff. Whatcha gonna do when miles from home and that fails? , start walk'in .
I was shoveling snow with my friend for money when I was 11 we came across a guy and we done his drive way. I also bought his his 1983 12 elan for 80$ and amazing this is I still have it and it runs great I'm 33 now
the perfect sled for your son would be a freestyle 300 it has a narrow ski stance it only weighs 370 pounds with a rev upright position. it would be cool to mod one of them out for your son. im only lite and have a blast boondocking it
I use brake cables off of mountain bikes they work great for throttle cable the old 90s mountain bikes especially have the same cables plus a lot of the time you can use the sleeve that's on it too because those old 60s and 70 snowmobiles the old cable sleeves usually pretty cracked up.
I had a '74 yamaha SM292F sled, that thing had a decompressor on it. It seemed to work, but I didn't really notice a difference starting it, so I didn't bother to use it.
You can use a mountain bike brake cable to replace the throttle cable. It has the same casting on the lever end of the cable. You can buy them at any bike store and possible even Canadian Tire
Does anyone know where to get the suspension pivot arms. I think it's called center and side wheel support arms. I'm about to restore my grandpas old 72 elan and i want to change all parts of the suspension coz it's in a terrible state. I can find the rest of the parts but not the pivot arms.
We had one a few years ago (my brother) and we fixed up pretty well. I can't seem to find one lately. We couldn't seem to get it stuck in deep freshies.
i had a moto ski spirit given to me and i drove it for 2 months and my uncle asked me to trade it with his ski doo everest 444 liquid, so i did and i fucked up what a mistake the 444 was so powerful it lifted the skis on take off and was stupid fast and popped a piston 15 days later, i kick myself still 6 years later as it still mint condition and runs
I just started the series a second time :-) I noticed you mentioned not being able to get the throttle cable? I have a lot of experience with bicycle cables and I know from what my dad told me you can actually heat the cable end with an iron and replace the cable with new, just heat the solder in the lead? I think lead end and slip a new cable in. replace the cable housing with bicycle or motorcycle cable housing cut to size. just build your own. I don't know if you have already pursued this option but maybe this will help. you can solder the end back on according to my dad. also I have a yamaha bravo with the cable tied off at the throttle end ;-) we finds ways to go around the obstacles..... when I needed a cable for my 78 tnt everest a guy I know who works in a bike shop (sled guy too) he gave me a piece of bike cable and it worked fine. I also have tied cables together from the garbage ha ha ha. food for thought @PowerModz
Me and my old man are planning on restoring a 75 12 elan back to original but instead of putting a 12 motor back into the body i have a 16 twin to go into the motor but i need the wiring harness
Hi love your channel, I bought a 69 scorpion and was wondering if you know some sources for getting parts for these old machines. I want to put a newer track and runners. I am not really trying to keep it original. Thanks for your help.
Hey Louis! I'm down over here up in Maine getn' my 94 skidoo safari all good for the season,I already replaced both bogie wheels, new belt, new spark plugs, and a new primer, I'm looking to dump a few hundred into it this season, what should I do to make a almost 20 year old sled go better? The previous owner only put like a 1,000 miles on so it's pretty mint besides the seat cover, I also had the recoil and CDI box replaced, starts first pull every time! Love your videos, keep Em going!!
Hey Louie! Doo you prefer the steering setup like you have there? Or the tie rod end style? Ever had issues with either style more than the other? Thanks!
Hello. I’m trying to dismantle a secondary/driven clutch. So for I have removed the helix and the moveable sheave, but not sure how to remove shaft from the stationary sheave. I have put it in the hydraulic press and appears maybe something might break. This clutch is from an older SkiDoo.Looks similar to the Elan. Do you have any suggestions of removing the shaft? Thanks in advance. Karl.
How do I put a single elan motor into a twin elan body. My clutches are offset and I don't know how to align them correctly by retapping motor mount holes?
Hi, love your video... I have several of those different year. We have been having a big problem , wondered if you could help. the mounting flange on the carb keeps breaking! Please can u help! thanks
the block type on a tilly or rubber on mikuni? if block type no idea why doesnt make sense, if mikuni its because the new rubber is junk and gets weak and cracks, support the carb so there is no weight on the rubber.
There is a company called "Motion Pro" that can make custom cables that are super nice. They should work unless that original cable has weird ends on it.
Hey man, I have an 71 olympic 399 and I'm having trouble getting the lights working when I turn on the light switch the lights come on and slowly die I decide to try led stuff in place of the original bulbs still lights up and the lights slowly die out have you ran into this? I'm asking on here now because I can't find anything online about this thanks
Love this video!! I had numerous elans growing up both 12 and 16s and after years of not owning one i caught the elan bug again last year and have been looking for them ever since.I recently just scrapped a 12 that had a bad chassis and in the process of looking for parts to do a build. I also just made a deal today on a 77 16 delux one like i owned back in 97,i will be doing a full restoration on this.Anyone out there know a good place to buy parts?Cheers elan lovers..Neil from Corner Brook N.L
"A little gentle persuasion..."

Just starting on my 1972 Nordic 640ER that's been in my family since new. I Look forward to following along with you for tips as I do mine. Great use full series. Thank you for posting it.

This will be a great series love the old elans
My first snowmobile, I must have broken and replaced about 10 bogie wheel springs over the years I drove it and when I think about it I was only 11 years old. My next sled was a Polaris Colts 250 SS. Cool little sled. I need to pick up an old beast like an Elan.
Dad bought a holdover 300 in 2007. Super fun. You don't even need snow to boondock lol. 550 would be even better. I wish it had an odometer. Lots of wide open miles on that thing.

Hey Louis. Love the video, and love the older machines. They just never die.
Louis, Glad to see the series started!!
Hey Louis, another great informative vid, thanks.
Lmao! Perfect! That's what I was thinking! Safe! You need to see a light on the trail, no one is going to be staring at the ass of a snow mobile to see if the light changes!
nice! just bought an completely original elan 73 with no parts missing up yesterday for $500 cant wait to see your other vids
Hi power mods, I'm sure you know this already, but that throttle cable look the same as a mountain bike brake cable. Any bike shop should have one
Sweet! Another rebuild. A classic this time.

That's the exact reason i'm looking for a new one.. my Tundra II finally bit the dust..

Nice shop. Great work and tidiness ethics

I remember my grandfather using a snare wire and my break cables from my bike to use as throttle cables.
good stuff loui, just in time for those nordic's i picked up.
I would love to see you renovate a dirtbike :)
I had a 71 like this and the throttle cable was toast on it. Ended up using one off of a 95 Mach z that fit almost the exact same. Had to fit it a little differently but it works well
Love this build
If it runs good then leave it alone and buy quality snowmobile gear - you'll enjoy the ride even more! Motorfist clothing and helmet, waterproof and light weight!
Good job! I like it.

I'm restoring a 76 or 78 elan but I can't find pistons or head gaskets anywhere pistons that will work there used though

You shoukd do an Arctic Cat 440 Jag restoration, I may be restoring mine this year.
for the throttle cable you can use a break cable off of a mountain bike possibly
We had one a few years ago (my brother) and we fixed up pretty well. I can't seem to find one lately. We couldn't seem to get it stuck in deep freshies.

Hello is it possible to remove the chain case to change the chain and repair the chain tensioner without removing the engine ?
another sled build sweet
Are all elans pretty much the same? Would it be a different setup for a 79
My chaincase on my elan is leaking. Do you now where I can find new rubber seals for it or do you know any other fixes??
Haven't seen anymore video on the restoration? How's it coming along??
ya another sled series couldnt wait for real
The cable that is uses for the gas is a brake cable for a bmx or mountain bike
How do I put a single elan motor into a twin elan body. My clutches are offset and I don't know how to align them correctly by retapping motor mount holes?
For the gas cable you can go to a bicycle shop and they will make one!
Rotax, Bore & Stroke, Hp at Rpms, CR? Would really like to see some Tuned Pipes, CR Head Mods, Points to CDI, mods for these old Singles.
Step one: actually find an elon
did u get that sled from ebay kijiji ??????
Can't Wait!
Great video PowerModz! Do you know if any of these exist in Europe or the Alps?
yes for sure they do.
Hi, love your video... I have several of those different year. We have been having a big problem , wondered if you could help. the mounting flange on the carb keeps breaking! Please can u help! thanks

depends on who you go to, i got my frame done on my yz125 for $80
10:53 How can you get it out that easy? It just doesn't work?! Any tips guys? Thanks 😅
How much are you planing to spend on it
How many links should a elan chain have to be at good tension??
oh geeze sorry I cant remember!
The wire in the beginning looks like cycle brake wire should work.
Where is the rest of the Elan build from PowerModz?
I was wondering the same thing 4 years ago. I don't think it was ever posted.
