I picked up a guitar this year, at 35 (sorry), as a way to relax. Then I decided to try charming my girlfriend, through learning songs that she knows and loves. She loves Dylan. So I pretended to aloofly practice Knockin on Heaven's Door, until finally I could play it comfortably. I know now that it is an extremely simple song. But she pretended to be pleased. I am not *that* wet behind the ears, however... Thus I know she is not impressed by the tune. But--- I think this is the ticket!! Us two are apart, for a month, across the ocean, and I can now practice this all month. And then, reunited, I will play it, and give her eyes some little extra sparkle. Your tutorials and your presence have warmed my past few months, sir. Great teacher. Thank you.
What I was used to as a common strumming pattern was DDU UDU. This one strumming pattern took me by surprise, but I love it, and I had to really work at it. So when you added those / chords in, I had to take a moment. After a couple of days of practice, I finally got it. I’ve loved this song since I was a little girl and I’m 75 now so thank you for the way that you presented this one. I really love it.
kevin, i really like your teaching style. my son is a beginner and i forward many of your lessons to him. nor complaiing t, but tab or chord sheets would really help.
[Verse 1] G C C/B D/A D G / / / / How many roads must a man walk down G C C/B G G / / / / Before you call him a man? G C C/B D/A D G / / / / How many seas must a white dove sail G C C/B D/ / / / D / / / / Before she sleeps in the sand? G C C/B D/A D G / / / / Yes, ’n’ how many times must the cannonballs fly G C C/B G / / / / G / / / / Before they’re forever banned?
[Chorus] C C/B D/A / / / / G C/G The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind C C/B D/A / / 0-2 G / / / / The answer is blowin’ in the wind Master! right how are the chords positioned with the words? Thank you.
Excellent lesson, Kevin! I really like your relaxed step by step approach, which makes the lesson very easy to follow. This is the best lesson for this Dylan classic that I have seen on UA-cam.
Thanks for a great lesson demonstrating slash chords and the bass-strum. I play this song that way, including a solo section. Once you get that bass-strum skill down, a whole new world opens up on guitar. 😊
As a general rule, I find your simple-to-complex approach fantastic, especially when I'm trying to figure out the timing of the complex version of any given song, but you kind of left me hanging on this one. If only you'd played the slash chord version of the verse through slowly from start to finish, as you later did the chorus, getting the timing down would have been a thousand times easier.
Hello and thanks a lot 4 all your great lessons. They are clear and easy to understand. I don't want to be intrusive but I worry for Maggie. I suppose you probably know that chocolate is a poison to dogs. I'm writing from France where Treets is chocolate. May be is it different in the States? Anyway, I wanted to give you that information.🙏. Longing for new lessons. Thank you. Regards, Rémy
Thanks for another great video! When you are playing the slash chords I am hearing a touch of Donovan in there. Particularly Catch the Wind. If you can touch on Donovan it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Kevin. In the level 2 strumming pattern when you have 2 beats of G and 2 beats of C for example, is it 2 down strums of G and DUDU of C? Your videos are much appreciated, thank you!
You are most welcome. On that 2nd strum pattern if you are playing 2 strum patterns of G or C it would look like this: D D DUDU D D DUDU I think that was what you were asking?
Still a bit confused, it looks like you were playing 2 down strums of G and 2 down strums of C in 1 measure in the beginner pattern. | G⬇️G⬇️C⬇️C⬇️ |…does it become this… | G⬇️G⬇️C⬇️⬆️C⬇️⬆️ | ?
It's true Bob recorded the song in the key of D but he never ever sang it live in that key. He almost always played and sang it in the key of G. ua-cam.com/video/vWwgrjjIMXA/v-deo.htmlsi=kFLQ907VKg-C3Idw

Great! You will love it!
And happy new guitar day!
@@Relaxandlearnguitar Thank you so much…and hello from Victoria BC!

Outstanding lesson. Love that you are offering different levels for beginners to work through.
Thank you and happy to help!

Don’t know about the wind but the slash chords are mind blowing for a beginner. Will need a bit of practice.Great tutorial.
Lol. Stick with it. Songs sounds great without them too. Make it a goal :)

Awesome, thank you!
I could swear there was a link to some more folk songs…can’t find it now but would be great to be able to see that list or video link again.
Hi Diana. The pines comment has a link to a folk song lesson playlist.

Hello across the pond! Thanks for watching and your concern. Treats here in US means dog bones. No chocolate for Maggie 😀
Super dimostrazione!!! grazie
You are welcome

You are welcome. Great ear! I can add hi. To the request list.
Explained it very well. Any idea why Dylan plays it without a capo live or on the second fret, and like with a capo on the 7th fret in his recording?
Likes to sing in different keys I suppose

Good morning
HI Deedee!
Thanks for that! I surprised myself ... I could do it! (Slash chords later)
Excellent! You are welcome.
Great lesson Kevin - thanks! Can't blame Maggie for trying to get extra YT treats, huh? She is great! LOL!
Hi Jim! We love her. Thanks for watching!
Should mention it's in the key of D with G shapes
The sea is a d in the gee
Lol
Why don’t you play it through from beginning to end?
Yes, that would have been even more helpful to see how everything ties together.
It's true Bob recorded the song in the key of D but he never ever sang it live in that key. He almost always played and sang it in the key of G.
