- For some reason, we thought it was a great idea to ride a double black tech trail at the end of three consecutive days of all-day riding. Did we go fast? Nope. Were we super tired? Yup. Still thoroughly enjoyed the experience though.

Sounds and looks like the fork was noisy as it compressed, and brakes sounded really bad, loud squeaking noise when braking, this would be annoying for me. My brakes don't sound like that. I don't think brakes should sound like this, if they do something is wrong, even if everything is right, it then is the pads or rotors just being noisy, so if it were on my bike this would be resolved, But I don't have this issue.
Fox suspension is just noisy by default. Some people like the sqeulchy noises they make. I find it annoying, but it is what it is. Nothing we can do about that. Rockshox on the other hand is always silent. In regard to the brakes, I didn't notice anything. The pads may have gotten glazed after four whole days of bike park riding though. It's typically something I would address _after_ a week-long out of state mtb trip.
Side note: I know you mean well, and that you're just mentioning this matter-of-factly as an observation, but this comment can be misconstrued as hostile criticism. Somebody can read this as: "Ugh, your bike is so noisy. You're incompetent with bike maintenance. If it was me, everything would be perfect."
I can relate with this because I'm "on the spectrum" on top of also having ADHD, and I have very often compulsively blurted out certain things, thinking I was being informative or helpful, but it just came off as an attack or an insult to the person. They thought I was intentionally trying to "put them down", when that wasn't my intent.
A mother once told me that her baby never cried, and I mentioned that it could be a sign of psychopathy because of a documentary I once saw. I meant no harm. It was just my compulsion to be informative. Needless to say, the mother was not pleased.
As I've gotten older(mid 30s now), I've learned to cope with my ASD and ADHD and refined my social skills(up to a point). I've imagined conversations in my head and really considered how to navigate them, and how someone can take something I said out of context or misunderstand my intent. I try to be very selective with my words. I gotta say, it can take a lot of willpower to NOT say every last thing that comes to mind and I still occasionally say and do really dumb and embarrassing stuff. 😅
Ironically, this is one of those moments where I was like F it, someone's gotta tell you something eventually. I've seen you comment on a lot of other mtb videos, on our channel and on many others, and I know you mean well, so please don't take this the wrong way. I know unsolicited advice can be annoying, but there have been times I wished someone told me about my social faux pas when I was younger so I could have avoided a lot of frustration and social confusion.
Anyway, wishing you the best, man. I can only hope you stick around and continue watching our content after this response.

The fox fork sounded unusually noisy, is that a new thing for the newer forks? I had a 2019 fork, but mine was converted to coil, but I've had other fox forks, none sounded like this, I am just curious about the cause. Interesting about glazed pads, I never got that type of sound, usually I got the wet screaming brake noise once they got glazed and rotor got glazed. I know you are not incompetent. So your reply was a surprise, But I try to be more careful how I form my sentences and how I write things. But I never mean harm.
@@dukeofmtb My comment was barely advice, but these noises make me curious, I've heard various conflicting things about pads and rotors and noise. I am curious which pads, rotors, you use. Do you think it's the heat from riding so much in the bike park?
I am always keen to learn more about bikes, what causes which noises and why, but I share what I know so far.
Most of which was Sram centerline rotors are noisy, they are but only with their pads, But I've heard ice tech rotors be noisy too, I know the pads are not the issue in this case, unless the ice tech rotors are noisier some how, but I heard in several vids the Sram center line were making horrible noises including similar if not the same to this sound. but what people hear can vary, I can hear these frequencies very well.
Some pads and rotor combos I've tried that were almost silent:
Hope Tech floating rotors 160 - 180mm & 180mm - 203mm, with Shimano metallic pads, TRP Semi metallic, but these floating rotors eventually develop a creak in the rivets after few years of use. So I sold all of them. I will be sticking with regular rotors, no rivets, no extra parts to creak.
TRP -29 160mm - 180mm with TRP semi metallic
TrickStuff Dächle 223mm ( very expensive but got them offered second hand for half price so grabbed them) with TRP semi metallic, with Formula sintered and organic pads, when rotor is glazed the sintered Formula pad is by far the most quiet, still noisy when glazed. The Dächle rotor seems to not be noisy in it self, but the big size means it can make a ding noise.
Pads:
Shimano resin is useless, wears super fast, bites bad.
Shimano Metallic bites well, wears much slower apart from cracking, chucks I can peel off, not good.
TRP semi metallic did well, bite at least as well as Shimano metallic but no cracking.
Formula pads: organic bites well, much better than Shimano, but it gets powdery, some minimal wear at the edges, but no huge cracks and chucks peel off.
The sintered pads bite well too, wear slower, don't get powdery, for some reason when rotor is glazed they are quieter than the organic.
I've been happy with the Formula pads.
BrakeStuff rotors look interesting, they claim the design keeps the rotor cooler, quieter, more braking surface but many tiny venting holes. verry different to what others do. I am not sure if the Sram rotors have issues due to the shape and size of the venting holes, or how the different rotor sizes and pads effect things.
@@dukeofmtb on 2019 fork creaking stanchions were an issue, but I did not hear that here, just seemed to be a shoosh sound when compressing. but it sounded like the fork was snapping in half, but the 2022 fork does the same I seen the vids even 38 does, so few months and it could be noisy, is your fork 2023 or 2022 model? how has it performed so far? I use EXT ERA. I gave up on Fox, even for lower travel, I guess maybe an 100mm fork might not creak or as much at an steep head angle at least, but not tried that. Fox claims 2023 models have improved crown to prevent creaking. it will be interesting to see how long the 2023 lasts without creaking like snapping metal and twigs.
@mtbboy1993 All of the most recent Fox 36 & 38 forks and Float X2s make a squelchy noise. It's sometimes even a little chirpy sounding on video, which might be the "brake noise" you're hearing. I have two X2s, two 36s, and a 38 on separate bikes, and they're all noisy compared to the Rockshox stuff on my wife's bikes. If they don't get rid of the noise, I'll probably be switching back to Rockshox in the future. Rockshox stuff works just as good if set up properly, easier to service, and they're silent. Since I already have it, I might as well keep it until there's a better reason to spend money swapping things.
she needs cornering advice. her body positioning in not right. separate the bike from your body and turn it over, drop your inside arm and straighten it out. almost like your scooping the corner out with your lugs
she is stiff as a board god damn. any faster and that probably would have been pretty dangerous
She knows and has known for a long time. She's been working on it. She just doesn't have a good mind/body connection and struggles correcting things like this. She can't whistle, can't dance, can't snap her fingers, can't projectile spit, can't even cough up phlegm to save her life. We have long suspected she has undiagnosed dyspraxia/ developmental coordination disorder. I've been with her for 17 years, so trust me when I say it's not from a lack of practice or patient coaching. I think she's doing alright considering her disability.
