Nick Lewis is the best for UA-cam interior design!! Plus he is HILARIOUS
Ooo I think I’ve seen him! I’ll check him out again! ❤️❤️
He has just released a video discussing color palettes for your place!
Yes love Nick he saves people from making mistakes
@@MsJujubee3 Love Nick Lewis too!
Yes he's another good one to watch and yes very funny😂
Hi, Anna. BFA Interior Design, commercial/institutional career work. I'd like to share some observations and make a couple of suggestions.
First of all, you did very well with your decluttering and changing your paint color to the white. The white color camouflages all of the light switches and thermostats on the walls. The white also softens the transitions at the angles of the walls and the ceiling.
I do see two improvement opportunitiess in the living room that are so common that nobody ever sees them. The furniture pieces are pushed up against the walls without relating to each other and most of the wall hangings are placed at eye level for someone standing up, not at eye level when you're sitting in the room using it.
These oversights can be fixed by simply moving what you have into different positions. Try it for at least a week and see how you feel about it, then decide.
As shown in the most recent photos, people sitting in each of the chairs do not have comfortable eye contact or conversation distance. Create the main conversation group centered on the TV but closer to it. Move the rug and coffee table close to the TV console. Move the big sofa away from the gallery wall so that its front legs are on the rug and you can walk between the sofa back and your gorgeous gallery wall. This is your new aisle to get from the front door to the back of your house. Place the matching black lounge chairs on each side of the sofa with the front legs on the rug if possible. A rug is a good way to anchor three pieces in the middle of the room. It's possible that the TV may be just a little high for viewing from that angle, but lowering the height of the TV to seated-eye-level would help. Mark the wall with removable masking tape to test the height that works for your family.
Not having furniture pushed up against all the walls will make the space feel enormous. You could even add a row below and another column on each side of your gallery wall to exaggerate the illusion.
Move the large white lounge chair in front of the stair, angled toward the fireplace. An ottoman would make a nice foot rest or a second seat. The floor lamp and a small drink table would make a cozy reading nook. If the hyde-rug is not large enough to anchor the sofa and lounge chairs, it would be really cute under the front legs of the big white chair to define the reading nook.
I really like the movement of the lines in the hyde-rug with the movement of the sculpture lines of the TV console. Both are beautiful.
The verticality of the plant and candlesticks seems to be fighting the horizontal painting. Try taking the painting off the wall, turn it vertical and rest it on the mantel leaning against the wall. Place it off-center under the brightest spot lit by your ceiling light. Then play with the placement of your candle sticks. The plant might be better somewhere else.
A hack hanging pictures is to wait until it is dark outside, turn the TV on, then turn the lights on one by one. You may decide to add, rearrange, remove, brighten or dim your lights before adding art that would be lit by your lights. I love that you put a picture light above the gallery wall. Consider adding the same light to the other picture columns. Be open to washing a wall with light behind a plant to show off its silhouette. Repeat this trick in a few places for consistency . It is a good trick next to a TV because it does not interfere with TV viewing. And it might be really cool to wash the wall behind your TV console with light to emphasize its sculptural qualities. And if you decorate for the holidays, keep in mind how you would move furniture and lights around.
Consider adding very small lamps under the kitchen cabinets or wall-washing-lights behind plants to add depth and a brighter warmth than your current under cabinet lights. I bet it is so cozy in there after dark. There are still a lot of pendant lights in your open-plan kitchen. The quantity of pendant wires distract me rather than the lamps themselves. Eventually consider changing some to recessed down-light fixtures. I prefer not being able to see the lightbulbs because glare hurts my dry eyes. I prefer to see the brightness of the thing being lit and not see the light bulb. Emphasizing the light on your surfaces would leave the pendant wires and ceiling vents with less light on them.
Once you see these details, you won't be able to "un-see" them.
You have such a beautiful large house and you have such good taste and fashion sense. You don't need tips on design at all. I hope these tips on space perception and lighting give you a few more tools to work with.
I love all your videos. ❤
These suggestions are brilliant. Some are things I have done (small lamp in a dark spot on the kitchen counter) and others I never thought of. I was going to suggest to Anna that a consultation with a professional might prevent mistakes, but you provided all of that. Great post.
I hope she reads this!!
Wow! So nice of you to take the time to educate us, thank you! I hope she reads this as well. Let’s tag her, lol @annareid29
Love this! You are a gem for sharing to the group.
The thing that resonated with me the most was, "Not having furniture pushed up against all the walls will make the space feel enormous."
This is the best ,most accurate, and constructive comment I have ever seen. Also, these suggestions are all the ones I thought of and more! I have learned something from these suggestions. If the budget allows for a designer to come into your home, I think it would benefit your confidence in your decisions. Anna, you are right there with most people who are not trained or experienced, and that's why there are professionals in design.
My career as an interior designer has led me to the two most important factors for choosing a color pallet. Number one, don't just go for whatever color happens to be "in" at the moment. Choose colors that YOU like. And two, consider the direction of the light in your room. If it has strong southern exposure, the room is going to be warmer, so cool colors might look good in there. But if it has northern exposure your room will always feel cool. Grays and blues will feel cold. Go for warmer colors instead!
Love this! I need to figure out which way that room is facing! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey thanks! The front windows in my lr face north and on the west side is a door. I keep it open to the storm door 90% of the time, except when the sun makes it in the space between the door window & roof of my neighbor's house. 😂
I cannot STAND the color of my lr. Imagine a pet peed on a white wall & it dried. Yellowish cream. Being in TX, the walls are textured. My hubby doesn't want to paint bec of the vaulted ceiling. He doesn't wanna do it! 😄🤣😄
Donna Hoffman's Design Genius video courses are wonderful.
A few years ago we had the interior of our house painted. I chose the same colours throughout. The walls a brown/grey and woodwork white. I love it because each room seems to take on a complimentary tone to the other rooms. Some rooms cast a brown tone, some a grey and each room changes as daylight changes and night light falls. It also makes the house appear more spacious and one room fades into the next room. I am happy with my choice.
As an interior decorator and I approve of this message!😊🎉❤
I would suggest lowering your television probably 9", so it's "friends" with console below it. I would also add a large area rug to ground the seating grouping. It will feel more cozy, instead of feeling like each piece is its own island. As for the mantle, you've made great improvements. If those books have removable covers, they are most likely more neutral colors on the hard cover, that will flow better with your neutral, creamy white look. Have fun!
I love this so much! It was the most down to earth but satisfying remodel I’ve seen in a long time. Perfect for those of us who don’t want to get rid of everything and start from scratch spending thousands.
Exactly! Sometimes just changing a few things can make a huge difference ❤️❤️
This made me smile! I've had to invest in plumbing leak repairs, that contributed to not "starting from scratch" anywhere that isn't necessary.
Love the white paint - I agree it makes the red brick pop. Try natural blocky wood candlesticks- not brass or gold. Think more “organic” which will look good with the plant and give the softer look you want. The books on the mantle are too colorful for that spot. Try some black and white books to pull in the framed prints over the sofa. Put a book in the middle of the book stack that is similar in color to whatever wood candlesticks you use (for balance).
Thank you! Love these ideas! ❤️❤️❤️
Maybe put some light colour throws (thin ones even that makes sense in FL) onto the dark armchairs - it will lighten the space up a lot
That is a great idea
Yes , putting light colour cushions over there will pull it all together.
Try a larger scale piece of art over the mantle, taller will add height and stick with natural materials. Wood, marble, stone maybe a bit of brass. Good luck 😊
and use larger items as display, not a lot of small stuff
Yes exactly 💯
Love this home video! Please do more! Fashion and home decor! ❤
Yes! Glad you liked this one! ❤️❤️
I've never commented on your videos, although I do watch most of them... But wanted to say you were very relatable in this one and it was extremely interesting... And motivating. PS your sense of humor is always a plus in your videos 😁
Caroline Winkler is great for interior design, and also, she is pretty great at styling her fireplace mantle!
Adventures in Decorating, Shea McGee may have mantel ideas, don’t be afraid to fill in the middle?…you did great & yes the new pillows are your new starting inspo keep it going it’ll be fun & comes together. Hubby sometimes have ideas believe or not lol. Luv that you took your time & you use what you have. I always do white walls/trim its crisp & modern. You could paint your fireplace brick white lol sorry that’s me. 🥂
I love the idea of having a "crazy room"!
lol it’s the best 😀
Your hair is great that color , suits you sooo well
I agree with comments about taller items over the mantel. The picture is overwhelmed by the heavier detail and architecture of the fireplace. You have tall windows so fill the space over the mantle with height similar to the windows. Use visual weight created by taller, bolder items to balance the space over the mantel. The look of the mantel and hearth create a visually bottom-heavy look that need upward movement to fix the downward heavy look of the fireplace.
I love that mirror that was above your couch. Anytime I saw a video with it I admired it. I'm glad you found a good home for it.
Thanks! It was unique for sure! ❤️❤️❤️
House of Valentina. I like her style. It's neutrals mainly. She has a mantel in her living room and decorates its all sorts of ways. May give you some ideas.
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
@@ANNAREID29yes. Valentina is my go to house person and you are my go to clothing person 😊
Fun to see, thanks. One thought on your living room and continuing to make it more cohesive: consider a larger (LARGE) area rug. Just a thought!
I admire you for sharing the evolution of your decorating style.❤ I think that most of us who are sensitive to our surroundings tend to make lots of adjustments in our choices so there is a constant moving and changing of items at my house, (which always baffles my husband who has said that he would be happy living in the shed.) I’ve been lucky to have a daughter in law who does marketing for a niche custom furniture company. I like her personal style and whenever I get stumped I ask her for advice. I want a new rug for my kitchen and I’m hoping to find one at Article!
I love this! That’s great you have a built in expert in the fam! I do wonder if we are ever 100% happy with our houses maybe it’s just supposed to be constantly evolving 😀❤️❤️
Ha mine would be happy living in the shed too, very loveable quality for the most part
Try grouping your pictures in the bathroom closer together like your gallery wall in the living room. It will have more impact and anchor them together so they dont look like they're floating everywhere. There should be the same amount of negative space between each picture. Everything you've done so far looks great! I love.the new lights over the island ❤
I’m just starting to get into UA-cam design channels after moving into a new apartment. I’ve found that starting with a color palette and mixture a few design styles that resonate with you helps to create a cohesive look throughout your house that will evolve with you.
I used to work in retail merchandising. We always displayed shelf items with the tallest to the left and descending to the right. Works beautifully for your mantle, too! The number of items is much less important than how they are placed and how they relate to each other in size and theme.
Thanks for sharing your journey Anna!
We moved into a 1960’s half duplex that my husband completely gutted. We used Benjamin Moore White Dove in eggshell finish on the walls and satin on the trim. Absolutely love it!!! It’s a beautiful shade that reads cooler or warmer depending on the lighting and location, I agree with this description as our main living area faces south with tons of sun.
Our wood furniture is 1960’s teak, an oatmeal colour wool area rug and upholstered furniture in smooth and highly textured finishes for contrast. I leaned heavily on my preferences from the 60’s and 70’s when I grew up instead of following trends that never ever felt right to me over the last 30 years. I finally feel like my home reflects our tastes and lifestyle too.
Your home is lovely! Keep listening to your inner voice on preferences and how the colours, etc make you feel ❤
Whenever I want to make changes such as these, I use Pinterest. I search for inspiration there and recreate. Most of my artwork is my own, because that allows me to use the exact color palette that I want. I typically do not have to buy anything new as I just repurpose what I have. I borrow from other areas of my apartment. To add interest I use contrast (style and textures). Use your skill as a stylist to aid you. You got this...😊
Everything looks great! The only thing I would change is, I would get a coffee table that isn’t so dark. I think the dark coffee table next to the light couch is throwing it off for me, but I do love everything else you’ve done! It’s nice to see a UA-camr’s space look like a family home & not the cookie cutter white & grey everything we so often see! ❤
I agree! I can’t seem to find a coffee table I like for some reason. I’m waiting for one to jump out at me! ❤️❤️
Black, white and wood, I like that! I would add lots of plants and some gold accents.
You have from one end of the mantle to the other end, a flat surface of wall. Do not pass the flat surface where the wall begins to angle. Paint it a warmer, rich color. Or even better, a beautiful wallpaper, but take your time choosing it and make sure it's the correct one. Pinterest has tons of inspiration. By doing this, as a bonus it will define the staircase. Also never get rid of that amazing structure underneath the TV it is stunning. I would just suggest putting maybe some unique wooden picture frames just underneath the television either on the wall or on top of that surface or both. Also you could put a brown old ceramic vase or a wooden bowl or maybe a hand carved wood figure something to just bring out the beauty of that natural structure even more making it all look cohesive.
Hi Anna I watch you all the time and love your style ! Sometimes it’s a good idea to try the things we already have in different areas. Example, the mirror you sold probably would have worked over the mantle! You always say you like color and I see you dress in color . Use pops of the colors you love for your accents pieces like smaller furniture, pillows and artwork, and keep large items such as couches and paint neutral. Surround yourself in what you love! You will be surprised on how things will come together! You got this ! You don’t need a decorator! Good luck 🍀
Thank you for this! ❤️❤️❤️
Mantels are very hard to decorate. But I love that tall whispy, grassy thing that you had by the candlesticks that you should put back there.!
I would put a beautiful arched mirror on the mantle add greenery and creamy wooden candlesticks.
Anna, thank you for sharing your struggles and challenges in redesigning your space. I am always trying to improve the look of my home and have similar challenges. I will say, I follow a lot of interior design channels here and was surprised at how often these design 'experts' will repaint their rooms if they're not happy with how the color came out. Sometimes two or three times! I thought they were just super talented design geniuses and always got it right the first time. :-) I also follow interior designer Rebecca Robeson and she always stresses symmetry. I thought symmetry was boring but now I can see its importance in creating a calming, cohesive space. Finally, I like your bathroom color! I painted my bedroom the exact same color as a teenager in the 70s. I loved it. The first thing my parents did when I moved out was repaint my bedroom to a more muted color. :-)
I loved this video even though I’d only seen your fashion content until now. Thank you for sharing your lovely home and inspiring us to think about some easy updates. In regard to your mantel I would definitely recommend a much larger piece of art. Once you have a canvas or frame that really fits that whole space, you won’t have to struggle to find lots of filler objects.
You greatly improved your living room and kitchen. Very beautiful. I don’t care for the bathroom color. I think white would look better. Keep up the good work!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who changes their mind about house decor. I struggle with my mantle, too.
I feel like we all do! (Right??) 🤣 and why are mantles so hard 😀
Knowing how perfect you always look, I feel so much better that interior design is a challenge for you.
Thank you! ❤️ I have maaaannny more areas in my life that are challenging too! Haha
I love your "crazy" bathroom, Anna. It's nice to have one area of the home that departs wildly from the rest of the rooms. That color is bold and refreshing and unexpected. It reminds me of matcha tea. And the artwork is perfect with that shade of green. The green makes all of the paintings pop and become more interesting, whereas a white or cream would be too safe and boring. I love the mix of painting and photography, and I especially love the abstract portrait. The whole room looks like it could be a designer-styled bathroom in a very eclectic upscale Parisian restaurant.
Thank you! I love that you appreciate the crazy room! ❤️❤️❤️
I love your video - so honest and refreshing 🤗
Thank you for sharing your changes over time. I too am a home decorator, not a professional but UA-cam videos are a great help.
The few comments I’ve read have great ideas and I love your LR K. The lime green 1/2 bath is a great place for a gallery wall (perhaps the pictures could be closer together). (I once had a lime green guest bedroom which people loved bc of the special accents that brought it together).
3 suggestions:
• perhaps the fireplace plant could be in a more shallow rustic clay pot directly on the mantle.
• I think the candlesticks would work better if they were spray painted w rustoleum neutral stone color.
That’s all you would need for the mantle. Live the serene picture - great choice!
• application for any room: use accessories to tie/compliment the room colors. Ex: throws in white/cream/tan/brown for leather chairs; black/white accents in K - lamp, container for utensils, planter for small real/artificial plant. Cookbook on stand w it opened to recipe (white page, blk print).
So glad I found you; I’ve subscribed 😊
Those kitchen units look so much better with the black handles, it never ceases to amaze me what a difference small things can have. Not an expert on fireplaces but might be worth doing a white wash on the bricks in the fireplace. This would calm the brick down a bit but you would still have some interest and texture. Good luck a house is a project that is never truly finished
I would go for black items on your mantle. Loved this video.
Thank you so much for sharing your love of weird art and crazy bathroom! 😂 made my day. Stay weird and true to you Anna 🫶🏼
Oh wow. Your bathroom color was my bedroom color in the early 70's! It was cool with a black light.
Oh I see you had the lime green bedroom too in the 70's ha ha! I had bright yellow campaign-style furniture to go with it. :-)
I love what you've done. I would repeat the color of the pillows a couple more times. It will pull everything together.
Yes agree pull that color around the room.
I would put a small sofa on the wall where you have your tv now and mirror that sofa with another one where your current sofa is. Two chairs on the end facing the direction of the fireplace on the end, leaving space in front of the front door for an entry area. Maybe a small console table on the wall next to the front door for a key drop. Samsung frame tv over the fireplace on arm so it can swing into position when viewing - could also be seen from the kitchen:).
Hello very much enjoyed your video. I would suggest a pop of warm to vibrant large picture/ art painting.
leaning on your mantel, the one up there is to neutral. Color scene is great but choos a piece of art to cheer up & brighten. Choose something that really makes you happy & relaxed, you do a great job
It looks really pretty. I like the pictures above the sofa. I struggled with my mantel for quite a while until I went bigger with the art and accessories! Good luck to you. I like it all.
I really like what you did with your couch ... the pillows are perfection and the artwork above the couch looks great. For your mantle, try turning the books around, so you see the white pages instead of the bindings. This will give it a cleaner, more modern look. Also, I like the idea of a plant there, that same size, but I think it needs to be a very light green. I think the dark green leaves are too much of a contrast. I like the gold candlesticks. I also like that feathery thing. I thought that looked nice too. The plant or tree in your corner is beautiful. I love it. Try raising it with some sort of platform underneath, something the same color as the floor or the planter, maybe 6-12 inches and see if you like it better.
Amazing transformation! The kitchen cabinets look perfect! Maybe add a tiny lamp and a small painting in the kitchen. As for the mantle: adding personal items you’ve collected/inherited or a couple of vintage decor pieces, can make a big difference.
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Mantle - definitely larger piece of artwork on the wall:) its a statement area:):) i liked the black vases. Everything is definitely coming together. Loved the wall color.
For the mantle, I think you may need a larger artwork. Add three vignettes at different heights. A large vase with stems would make a huge difference. Hope this helps. You made terrific updates. :)
Wow, your bathroom is very original. I like it. Based on your living room, I would say that nice white or cream large rug, some nice white linen window cartons between the window's very hight to on top, it will make a big difference to make the room larger. Then you can put a large mirror which looks like a window in black frame on the
above the fireplace- it will make biggest the room, and give more lights in. On the brown letters chairs you can put some nice cosy beige blanket and some pillows. Based on lights- the large lamps on the table will make a big difference. Based on gallery - I think one but large photo( black and white) of your family will be perfect. You can live some wooden furniture as accent. The shelves you can paint cream colour, which make them elegant and new, but also to give more brightness the room. The success of decorating is to follow 3 based colours and green plants. I like the sofa in your room, so it could be the highest motive to matches the others thinks. In the kitchen I do like your furniture, but the lights are to messy. Try put just one large bright light in the medle and large lamp on the table or cabinet 🥰
For your mantle, remove the books. What about a 1940s Vintage looking wood clock in the middle. I think the wood clock would balance it out.
1940s clock for the mantle. Perhaps your parents or grandparents already have one they could give you.
Love the idea! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the video - home decor is a challenge for me, but the effort is worth it. I love having a serene and beautiful living space.
Same! ❤️❤️❤️
What a FUN bathroom! LOVE IT!
Thank you! It’s a surprise for sure 🤣🤣❤️
Thanks for another great video!! I always enjoy your content! Your living room is looking great! Just as an idea for the fireplace... Fireplaces are so large, that decorations often seem too small and out of scale, lending to a cluttered look. A single LARGE piece of art can sometimes work, as it's more in balance with the sizs of the fireplace (I have a 42" x 42" framed piece of art sitting on my mantle and leaning against the wall). You could also do something similar as you did above your couch - 4 (slightly larger) square frames, arranged in a square pattern, which would provide additional cohesiveness to your space. I love your gorgeous home - and particularly enjoyed your crazy bathroom!! What an awesome use of color!!! Cheers to you!! ❤
I watch house of Valentino for helpful hints. However I have the same fireplace problem. It is in the corner and small. So difficult to style around. I think a larger piece above and mantle blank is how I finally went. Valentina is very talented with decor. I have recently been checking out article.
Great job Anna! 😊
Consider watching a few Alexandra Gater video's, she does some amazing remodels so I think you might get a few good ideas for your mantel from her. The changes you've made so far look fabulous!
Love your channel BTW!
Thank you she’s one I haven’t heard of yet! ❤️❤️❤️
My gray turned out more blue then I thought it would as well. I did enjoy it because I have a pretty equal balance of warm fabrics plus cool & warm satin metals. Appropriate scale is the most important, but balance is a venerable runner up!
Sherwin Williams SW 7071 Gray Screen
FULL DETAILS
This light gray has a gorgeous blue undertone that adds a lot of personality and color. A wonderfully calm and cooling neutral for bedrooms.
Tip! Add drapes/curtains to the windows and move the seating furniture away from the wall, creating a conversation area ❤
I actually love that tip I’ve seen videos about it! The only problem is my living room is so small that when I bring them in… it’s too close! But I need to play around with this idea some more ❤️❤️❤️
Hang the rods almost to the ceiling and simple curtains - pushed all the way past the window frame. It will totally make the windows look even bigger.
Yes! Even simple inexpensive panels will do the trick. Have the rod extend beyond the windows so the panels make the eindies seem larger!
I love your Realness. Love from Australia xxx
Your hair has been on point ! Love it!
Very nice transformation.. I loved an accent wall color, too, but after about 5yrs. you're over it. Just a neutral color is easier to style around. 👍😇
You also might like Kristen McGowan's design channel. She's pretty talented but relatable. I see that others have recommended putting down an area rug and I think that's a great idea. Kristen is decorating a home she just bought and recently put down a Loloi brand rug in her guest bedroom. It might give you some ideas for your space. I always see nice Loloi rugs at Home Goods for decent prices.
Great job clearing out clutter and creating the chic gallery over the sofa❤️I would place the pillows at the corners of the sofa & repeat that color that you love from the beautiful new pillows elsewhere so it doesn’t look random. To me the TV console looks v beachy / tropical & the coffee table looks rustic / farmhouse (?) & even though mixing styles can be quite chic, everything still has to go with the Chippendale style sofa. Nonetheless, I think once you get the placement of the main pieces of furniture right, everything else will fall into place bc now the chairs seem awkwardly positioned. Perhaps move the TV to over the fireplace (glad you hid the cord; visible cords are the worst in ruining a room); you can even get a frame to make it look like art if you want (lots of tutorials online if you don’t want to buy a new framed tv). Lastly remember that just like you coordinate styles & colors when you get put an outfit together, you do the same with a room. Everything doesn’t have to, and shouldn’t, match, but it should coordinate.
Hi Anna , love all your videos ! I think you did a great job on decorating your place ! Love it !😊❤
Love the changes that you have done! I would continue with the natural elements like your dining lighting into the living room with baskets or other for a more organic decor. Larger scale items on your mantle as well. 😃
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Love your videos! You have such an authentic quality that is so charming and real. Appreciate your tips and love your style!
Thank you so much! 🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
I love the mirror.
Your a UA-camr! There are so many out there that do shelf & mantle styling!
I would move the 2 darker chairs to corner where sitting with nice round table between them and white chair by fireplace.
LOVE THE BATHROOM ‼️The mantel...my suggestion...use the 2 black objects you first had. I know there should be groups of 3, but it looked minimalist. I liked it 😄
The changes look great. I would add a light colored throw to the chairs...they are heavy and dark.
I love the color on those pillows!!!
So fun right?!
Loved Grover’s cameo appearance 🤗
He’s always sneaking in somehow 🤣❤️
Looks great Anna, including the half bath ❤
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
How about wrapping each of your coffee table books in linen in whatever warm colors you want. That would bring cohesiveness to the mantle
Boy! Glad I watch your video today because I’m ready to paint my living room blue 😬
My opinion is the amount of lights on the ceiling in the kitchen/dining is insane 😂😂😂 there are like 7 ceiling lights in that tiny space 🫠 but I’m not a designer so what do I know 😂
Anna...Over your mantel get a large vertical picture that draws the eye upward. That is a large area so need a very large picture. To test it out take a large photo/picture and put it there, even if it is sideways. It will draw your eyes upward making that area look larger.
I think you should make the mantle a statement piece just like people do with their front doors pick a bold color then use natural colors for item sitting on it.
I loved the mirror. It would have been perfect on the mantle..I love the white paint though.
Such a fun video. I love the piece under your TV.
Thank you! ❤️
Changes look great!! So good! Mantels are HARD!!!
Not really if you have a good painting.
@@carolalvarez3925 Do you like just a painting and nothing on the ledge? I have a hard time with that…what to put on ledge.
I like my own mantel when I use symmetry.
Why are they so hard lol ❤️❤️
Something to consider for mantle is leaning a large artwork then lean smaller pictures or art, or use a small book holder to hold a coordinating framed photo. The corner fireplace makes it difficult to arrange and furniture size matters. I have a corner fp too. Pinterest has good ideas too. Sorry for rambling!
Love your crazy bathroom.
Christine Winkler, a decorator on utube so fun to watch and great ideas!
Such a fun video. Beautiful home!
Thank you, Judy! ❤️❤️
Wonderful changes Anna.
You are so down to earth and lovely.
Greetings from Winnipeg, Canada
Thank you, Wendy! ❤️❤️❤️
It seems like Organic Modern is your style. I would search examples on You tube for inspiration. A collection of decorative objects always look better together in odd numbers such as 3 or 5. The art work is too small above your fireplace. It should not be too big but it also should not be too small. Too many small objects always look like clutter. If you liove a certain color, you should have it repeated or represented in other parts of the same room at least 3 times for cohesiveness. Dont underestimate the power of lighting . You must have it in different places in your living room in different heights. Btw, I love love what you did to the wall behind your sofa!
Maybe a cute gold standing clock on your mantle? And the books on the mantle maybe all complimentary colors, like cream, white and yellow like your pillows? Just a thought.
Lookin good but I would anchor the animal skin rug on another larger light rug. Love the kitchen lights TY
So put an additional rug down with it?
@@ANNAREID29 I think it would help anchor the room xoxo
@@ANNAREID29 Maybe a sisal rug or off white, cream. Then lay the animal print rug over it.
Rebecca Robinson is another good designer you may like.
Decorating a table, top a coffee table or even your mantel. The items that you need. Well first you do this three items five items are seven. The picture on the wall does not count. And if you're using coffee table books and your nautical adhesive color, turn the books around now. You turn the books around and put the plant on top of it. On the other side. The three gold candlesticks looked beautiful and right there is five items, three candlesticks a plant and a stack of books. Good luck! I just found you. I think I will look for your other videos
for your mantel you need a bigger picture and to move it up a little higher. the books need to be a neutral color. the plant looked good, get rid of the rose gold it’s too cold. you need a neutral candle up there. get rid of the gold candle stuff and put the blue vases back up. matching colors / monochrome is what makes it look cohesive and blend
Anna, it is so hard to live with the itch to make a change but be unsure (I know!). May I suggest that the large matting and very small pictures which are over the couch could be placed in another location, such as a hall or wall where people would be standing, as I would have trouble seeing the small pictures from the distance of standing in front of the couch or across the room. It takes time to tweak a space, thank you for sharing.
Oohhh!! I almost forgot!! I'm absolutely insane over the (?)Mangrove tree root table!!! 😍😍
Bring some of the crazy art into your living room
I feel like it would just get cluttered looking again 😀 (but I’m not opposed to this 😉 )
@@ANNAREID29 Is it possible that the 'crazy art' bathroom is the real Anna, the one who is funny, adorable and colorful....the one who started the channel with a personality that just made us subscribe because we didn't want to miss what you did next?
@@jeannebee2935 hahahahah 100% crazy bathroom is the real Anna 😀🤣❤️❤️❤️
@@ANNAREID29 Yes! Let the 'real' Anna shine thru, in more of what you do. You are unique!
Anna.. Im a designer and could give you many opinions, advice and tips; however, I suggest that you find a good interior designer in your area. They have the expertise, resources that are not available to the public and much more. It will be worth it and save you from making costly mistakes.
I may try that some day! ❤️❤️❤️
This! A good interior designer knows about color, scale, and pattern laying. Most purchases I’ve made were made after thoughtful consideration. I was never to pull the trigger on purchases, so I don’t have any redos or buyer’s remorse.
I would put a much larger art piece over fireplace. Something in portrait orientation
I would find a large abstract picture or painting in black and white for above the mantle. Then you could put the black vases back up and add a golden mustard piece to it, along with your plant. All that will pull the black from accents in your rug and chairs and the prints above your sofa, and the mustard in your pillows, over to the fireplace.
Love this idea ❤️❤️ thank you
@@ANNAREID29 you’re very welcome.
