TYS has been one of my favourite bands for years now. A notable trait is that no matter how crazy the composition gets sometimes, they've got vocal hooks that just keep satisfying. And they're just fun dudes, taking their music seriously without taking themselves seriously.
Ahahahh...Josh tossed you straight into the deep end with this song. You're right in that they are all incredible musicians -- and I've watched them pull off this stuff live on multiple occasions. How truly locked in they play -- from the fiddle, through the trumpet and sax, to the bonkers (sometimes fretless) work of guitarist Tom Monda -- is impressive. Maybe give FXMLDR a spin next. It's closer to a traditional structure, and the video is a hoot and a half...
Yes!!! I am so happy to see this. I also put in a request for this band (albeit a different song) on a few of your videos. I recommended their live version of FXMLDR I think. It’s an amazing video and this band is so solid live.
Being a thank you scientist fan can be hard sometimes On one hand, great music. On the other, if asked what my fav song from them is about, the answer is "abortion"
All prog needs multiple listens. But on first hearing, quite a bit of jazz influence (especially from sax) mixed in with prog rock. Maybe needs a bit of space in places but really interesting to listen to. I must hear some more of the band.
Aw, I was listening to TYS earlier in the week for the first time and they're superb!!! Love it! There's a bunch of Zappa in there and that's always good.
It was nice to see a reaction that isn't just blowing smoke to serve a fandom and get followers. I think you might be surprised how quickly the complexity does dissolve away. Not necessarily because you fully get what's going on, but because the choruses are so dang singable. They can always pull you back in. Like someone else has commented, if you were to listen again, I'd suggest something from Terraformer - probably Anchor. On that album they start managing to pull the whole thing into a slightly more coherent whole where the pieces fit together to fully serve the song.
here to add more praise to these guys, they’re incredible. here’s a list: Feed Your Horses A Famed Disappearing Act Blood on the Radio Mr Invisible FXLMDR (w/ Blue Coats)
This band makes you feel everything….body and mind man…..it’s beautiful noise thrown at you and you just want more….that’s why 8 minutes just doesn’t seem enough hahaha
i'm so damn happy right now. man, you really should listen their last LP. Chromology will burst your eyes and ears out. its absolutely gorgeous and an unparalleled adventure.
Second comment but why not. You really need to listen to their Terraformer album. It’s complex but you can hear an evolution in the band from this album to that one. You should also give the band Caligula’s Horse a listen as well. I would recommend doing a dual react to their main single’s off their last album Slow Violence and Oceanrise… though any song of theirs is gold and I think you’d really really like them.
Finally someone reacting to these guys! They deserve more recognition!
amen 🍻
theres TYS reactions all over the place
Thx for reacting to this, i discovered a new all time fav band!
Oh wow! Well I’m delighted to have introduced you to something you love ❤️

Yes I second this
Thanks for the tip!
2:55- "There's a satisfying rawness to it, it's not super-exact" - Precisely what gives TYS their edge! :D
I think after a few songs they became my favorite band.
TYS is such a great band! Love these guys!
Please react to chronology it’s my favorite TYS song! Not enough people know about it.
Sax, trumpet, violin, guitar, bass, drums and vocals
And theremin!

Insanely talented band. Almost too clever for their own good lol . Seen them live twice. Toured with Coheed.
same bro, instant fan 🤘🏻🍻
3 listens in and I can listen to this whole album all the way through while working and it's just great background music lol
Haha fair enough!
It's funny that you mention the Coheed vibe from them as they are signed with Claudio's record label Evil Ink.
👀
the lyrics to this song are REALLY intense. dude was terrified to be a father.
This band is absolutely amazing. Big fan. Thank you for giving them exposure.
YEESSSSS I love Thank You Scientist they are so good

This is one of the more chaotic songs. You really should listen to their Terraformer album.

Cheers for the recommendations Michael!
These guys have always seemed heavily inspired by Estradasphere to me. They're no longer together, but theyre definitely a predecessor...
