    When we play we use the clairvoyance level to dictate the number of dream cards. So unless you have reached level two you only get one etc. It works reasonably well.

      That’s how we play too, I thought that’s what the rules say

    8:30 The rulebook states that for the finale, the 3 cards _must_ relate to the group the psychics are supposed to vote for. I would recommend simply extending this rule to all the visions. You can dump a hand of cards on someone only if you have reason to believe that _every_ card can help to guide the player toward their answer.

    Great explanation! Amidst a COVID19 shut-in, I plan on running this game tonight for my family. I read the rules, did a quick solo quasi-dry run...and then watched the video. It helped tremendously especially with the clairvoyance tracker!

    We always play without the voting, as we find it too gamey and abusable. We prefer the more straight forward gameplay you get if you don't use the voting mechanic. It typically is a more cooporative experience with more chatter among the psychics. At the end you can just reveal all three (or how many you feel best) cards to all the psychics.

    I used to take this game to conventions and literally play it all day. Players would drop in, play a couple of rounds and then drop out but the sheer buzz around the table (due to theme, amazing imagery and fun) meant a constant stream of new players. I've now played this game so much that even with using both expansions, there's little mystery to be had for Mysterium. Its still a brilliant game and probably one of the best "dinner party" games I've played (a very niche area of games). As to the number of cards the ghost can hand out: normally, we tend to play with one card and one or two qualifier cards (though handing off 7 cards to junk the hand sometimes happens). Next time I play, I will propose that you can only give a player a maximum number of cards equal to their current psychic level.

    My only issue with this game was the final ending where I had to pick 3 cards for the shared vision to implicate the culprit. My god I took ages to find any cards that actually tied them to the culprit. In the end I had to cheat and dip into the entire rest of the deck to find something. So yeah, sometimes the waiting the psychics will have to do while you as the ghost has to pick a suitable dream / vision to send the psychics can be a bit frustrating

    Great review, as always, of a great & very original game - although, not totally original because the ghost's cards are based on those of the classic game, DIXIT. And it should be pointed out that the ghost can actually use Dixit cards as extra options! This leads to an obvious question - why can I find no review of Dixit from you guys? I know it's a fairly old one one now, but surely it's one of your favourites? (& if not, would love to know why) You did a review of the old gem Carcassone, so surely Dixit deserves a going over?

    1. The ghost can not see color. So color cannot be used as a clue.
    2. The mediums cannot see each other's visions while they are receiving and interpreting their own. Thus, visions can only be described to one another, but not shown. Only after a medium has collected all 3 cards (character, room, object) they are able to focus their minds on the visions of others, that they are allowed to see them.
    Enjoy.

    • @neliaferreira9983
      @neliaferreira9983 2 роки тому +1

      Why can't a ghost see colour??

    • @lystic9392
      @lystic9392 2 роки тому +1

      @@neliaferreira9983 Oh... Hmm, I thought that was common knowledge from folklore? :P
      Well... What can happen is the ghosts start using the colors only, to point to the correct cards. So if that happens we play with colorblind ghosts. Or with ghosts that can only use ideas, not shapes or colors. It can keep things fresh. But it can also make things limiting. We like to change things up.

  • @EdKauffmann

    I recommend that if you're gonna allow the ghost to hand out multiple dream cards, make it a rule that they must be handed out at once. if the ghost can hand out one card, listen in on how they're interpreting that card, and then hand out another card, (1) it's too clear a signal that the psychic isn't getting it quite right and (2) if the ghost hands a 2nd dream card right before the psychic is about to place their guess on the table, again it signals that they were about to guess wrong. if the dreams have to be handed together, it avoids that potential cheat.

    • @Downthero
      @Downthero 2 роки тому +2

      This is how the rules are written and how we play. As many or as few as the ghost wants, up to the hand size, but they must be given all at once and can't draw up until they're handed off

      there are round tokens with a number on one side and a question mark on the other, you can place them numbers down and pick a random token that belongs to the players look at it and remember it. that token is placed on the question mark placed on the same piece where the numbers are on at the end. and when all players have made their bid on who the murderer was you turn over the token to reveal your number.

    I read the rules, and did not understand this incredibly complex game. Then I started watching the very entertaining Tabletop video on this, and while entertained, still did not understand, other than in a general way. Then I watched this very nice man, and still don't get it. Supposedly, this is a fun game, but looks to me like you need to play w/ someone that has played so they can explain this, although I can say I understand the game enough to know that it does not have internally consistent logic (first find the person/place/weapon that did it, except then you later find the person/place/weapon that really did it?). I am going to try and figure it out w/ friends, but good games should not take hours to figure out.

    I tried playing this game twice, we won one game and the ghost won the other. Sadly I didn't enjoy it, really because it all came down to a "Guess what that person is thinking" mechanic. Sometimes the player could indicate the meaning using symbols, sometimes the colours of the card were the main factor, but it was always just 'try to guess what he's thinking', and I really didn't find that to be much fun.
