That’s the two pedals I’ve been looking at for a year now... just couldn’t decide between the two... glad I can actually hear👂 them to compare now. I think I’ve decided. Great demo video Jack. Thanks. Germanium it is. :)
Very interesting Jack. I’ve always dismissed Fuzz as being a bit too over-the-top for my needs. But some of those lower volume tones, particularly with the germanium, were right on the money. Hmm, plenty to think about there.
You are one of my favorite demonstrators, and this is one of my favorite Fuzz. I have the Mini Ge on my board. You cannot go wrong with either? The Zonk, and Fat Full EQ are great settings! The bias control is killer! I have a Fuzz pedal obsession, and could easily see picking up the Si, for all reasons you said. I’m REALLY happy with the Ge! Note: you really have to work at dialing Fuzz in, in general. The subtle differences of rolling off guitar volume, pickup selection, how much gain on the amp, how much gain on the fuzz, volume on the fuzz, bias...too much, or not enough means struggling with the tone vs. 1000 shades of AWESOME!
They’re both highly adjustable, a feature not necessarily found on many other gain units. Fuzz isn’t my thing, but these do a wide variety of sounds and I feel like they both would accommodate my classic rock tone chasing. Nice sounds today Jack! You’re spoiling us! -Jim
Superb demo and playing, think I'll go with the germanium for my British voiced amps along with humbuckers. Thanks for the help deciding! Also helped me pull the trigger on one of Gibson's newly crafted Nashville 335s, love that sound you were getting with the GE, cheers mate!
I had the Ge and it was really unstable in Northern California Summer heat. Could never dial in the same sound twice it seemed. When it DID sound good, (probably before the amps/room heat up) it was HUGE- as big as my Pigdog Tonebender.
That opening track was very Satriani-esque! Great demo. Can I just ask, how is it that you have a seemingly bottomless bag of riffs and licks? Do you have a good handle on music theory, or is it from songs? Or both? You are the best guitar demonstrator on UA-cam, IMO. Fantastic playing.
Great demo, Jack! I personally prefer the Germanium one it just fits my sound the best. King Tone pedals are outstanding. Just recently I've demoed the Soloist and that thing blew me away.
I’ve have had the SI version for months and find it suits my fender slightly broken up amp very well. To me there is a thicker sound to the GE in the demo, but that isn’t what I wanted. I still think I picked the right one for me. Which did you pick?
Stellar playing and chops. Really enjoyed the in depth video. I think your base tone was fairly clean however. These pedals really seem to shine more on an already dirty or slightly broke up amp. They seem to take on a completely different character that way. I'm usually a big fan of Germanium first, but after hearing several videos of the mini fuzz, I'm leaning more towards the silicone version.
Both sound great but to my ear the germanium has that more traditional snarl/splat and clean up sparkle that the vintage fuzz were known for. Question for anyone, right on the kingtone sight it mentions the issue with germanium transistors and their sensitivity to heat. I live in Phoenix (but don't gig outside in the heat (avg temp in most rooms I'd play, on a bad day might get up to 80 on the floor). Is the external ability bias sufficient enough to mitigate this issue? Prefer the Germanium but concerned about the heat issue
I use a Route 66 myself, and I think the Silicon works very good with it. I also thought it did a fine job when you turned the guitar volume down. Initially I was thinking the Germanium all the way...changed my mind.
Hi Fuzzfans, I must order one of these, I just have to...! I mainly play a Les Paul with PAFs so which one should I buy?Silicon or Germanium? Thanks for your help.
Ok, Jack, I beg you...I've just clicked on this, and not watched yet. I only received the Si version this week! Please, please, with this video, please do not make me regret my choice!!?? Ok...I'll watch now.
@@jackgriffithsmusic PHEW! Relief. I’ve watched. Yes, you’re right, they’re both wonderful. If the Ge has a tonal or feel advantage, for me, it didn’t seem worth the worry if it’s temperature sensitivity, or having to find a center positive power supply. But, honestly, the sound of the Si is closer to the sound in my head. And, I love it’s glassy rasp when it cleans up. And found, like you, that simply from 10 to 9 on the guitar is like disengaging a switch. It’s almost like it’s a clean tone, a heavy OD, and a massive messy fuzz bomb all in one. Thanks for this one!
I have both and you really can't go wrong with either. The bias has a much wider range than most other FF style pedals including the Analogman Sun Face, letting you get some really spitty gated sounds bordering on a kind of Zonk/Mk1 Tone Bender. To my ears the Ge is grittier, and the Si has more gain and that singing Eric Johnson sustain going on (uses the BC183 like the EJ signature FF). They both clean up great but the Ge sounds a bit fuller with cleanup, while the Si sounds a bit sharper. I like the full on fuzz sound better on the Si, but the cleanup better on the Ge. Of course...😭
@@stanislavmigra to some degree, yes. They have NKT275 transistors, which are known to sound great but be a bit finicky. The bias knob helps considerably, especially with the light that tells you when it's in the proper range. I've heard that he is considering using Japanese 2SB transistors which sound almost identical but are less temperamental. Analogman offers these transistors with his Sun Face as well and generally describes them as pretty warm.
They both sounds beyond good. I mean, how much they are? Those are GODLY sounds ... I will go (considering tones in this video) with Silicon. As I dont hear enough difference, to justify the unstable nature of Germanium transistors. I have couple Ge pedals and they sound and behave differently in summer and in winter.
Good news JD & china finally finished the mini fuzz enclosures . On the level its to bad all these guys (JD & MORE) have gone to china to get their pedals built Talk about a sellout to ones country
@WhySoSerious? Oh yeah It's so.. A little hint any of the pedals you see with these micro knobs on them are straight outta china. the guy's getting rich & lying to the guitar playing public while he's doing it or misleading them to say the least Because of folk like him is one reason china has such a long reach / say in what is happening in other countries

why not have both with v2?
His octoland pedal is the best I have ever played.
That silicon fuzz was fantastic! Treat yourself and have a wonderful Christmas! 😁🎄

My fuzz journey has led me to Si FFs. Bit more mids works well on my W/D\W rigs Deluxe Reverb. Been looking at these KingTones for awhile now….
This is insanity Jack! Love that you have your own channel now, gladly subscribed!

I don’t know, I’d say I’m running low on licks by this point, haha! Thanks though 🙏
I disagree @@jackgriffithsmusic, you always seem to apply something new and interesting! Like @9:05 in this video for example!!!!
Bought them both. The fuzz addicts will know why I did that. 😉

Heard a lot of Joe Satriani's tone and phrasing in that first jam, from Joe's self-titled '95 album. Very cool.
I had a Colorsound ToneBender (orange lettering) fuzz pedal back when I was 15. I should have kept it.
Me too! Bought from Macaris in London

Is there any plan that you guys would do Tale of Two Tones for Rory Gallagher or Gary Moore? Keep it up man.

Just ordered a Germanium one, only $260 in USA shipped!
I have the Ge version playing a old tele through an AC30. Never sounded creamier!

@@bobilly thank for info.
Is it just me or the silicon version cleans up better with humbuckers?
great video !
I stopped giving f*cks to the tone after noticing the fantastic creativity of the licks.
I love what you do Jack. What’s a good fuzz pedal for humbuckers?
Tone Bender... or like Jack did in the video, one of these in the Zonk setting. Takes out some of the flabbiness.
What he said! ⬆️
joe bonamassa fuzz face was specially build for humbucker guitars.
sounds good. i would like to know more like price
9:47 what was that lick? sounded nice
which one did you decide on?
Jack... please tell me which one you picked up - I can't sleep
I have seen this fuzz sounds amazing if volume is 100
Great vid as always. I think I’d go with the germanium if I could.
yes. hands down.
Germ is thicker fatter rounder, I like it

The germanium one has a red light that tells you when the bias is in the correct range.
Hi Jack, do you play the piano?
I can tinker but not play properly, unfortunately!
£260. Pedals have become so expensive.
New Klon back in 90ties costs like 400$. Just sayin ...
Actually not true. There has always been cheaper and more expensive pedals.
Hand wired pedals are more expensive for a reason.
@@tomipuukko Labour costs...nothing more.
@@tomipuukko Well that's stating the obvious.
Qosta sounds on the ge?
Germanium sounds smoother and it cleans up remarkably well. For those reasons I prefer it.
Which one has a lower noise floor at idle? Thank you.
I’d say the Germanium, but there’s not much difference.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Germanium one is too farty and flabby sounding for me, I much prefer the silicone
