Xiangliu took xiaoyao's word to his heart when she told him that he is not supposed to appear in any girl's dream 💔. Since then he just want to protect and love her in silence. ❤️🩹 This love feeling is so new and strange for xiangliu. It showed from his expressions. How I love how his eyes lits up everytime he looked at her. Tan jianci really brought xiangliu/fangfengbei alive here and brought justice to this character. So convincing, misunderstood mostly for the red flag traits but then so loveable. Their love story is pain for me. 😅
People often percieve Xiang Liu from the modern real life perspective, where his behaviour is really full of red flags and can't really be justified. But the setting is ancient fantasy world and the main characters are gods, demons and half-demons, who are also in a state of war. It influences every decision and action. As for XL and his love, I think, you are right. He is surprised that XY isn't afraid of him and even considers him a friend, according to her own words. The only purely good attitude he knew before were Gong Gong, the rebel leader, who saved him and to whom he feels indebted, and FFB's mother, who didn't even know, that he wasn't her son. TJC is phenomenal with his expressions and the things he can show with his eyes. Even if he doesn't speak, you can clearly see, what is going on the character's mind.

He is so magnetic... everything about his character in this series just ropes you in and makes you feel every emotion deeply. He does a phenomenal job with this character, I sincerely think I watched only for him; of course, the story was amazing as well. The directing, writers, music, I could go on and on ... 😅His role and the FL brought the entire drama together. Their chemistry was a rare and painfully beautiful thing to watch.
XL breaks my heart into a million pieces. As someone who grew up without love, he truly loved her selflessly and silently. From the moment he started falling for her as Wen Xiaolu, giving his heart and taking on the poisonous love bug for her, spending all those years collecting materials to make a weapon that would suit her to always being there for her as Bei, teaching her archery, distracting her whenever her heart breaks because of Jing. This man even gave his other life to save her and devoted 37 years to caring for her. All these but he never revealed his feelings because he believed he couldn't give her the best life and also, considering she told her how dangerous it would be for him to enter her dreams, he knew she would definitely fall for her more if he showed his feelings which would complicate her life further and deny her the best chance at another match. I believe she wouldn't have loved Jing the way she did if she knew of XL's feelings and dedication to her.

He conveys his love & affection with the way he looks at her, whether it be his indulgence or his amusement of her. And that fleeting flash of jealousy & annoyance when he sees her with another man, you can almost think you just imagined it, but it’s there. Kudos to great acting! They have the best chemistry, it sizzles when they look at each other!

Yes, it was selfless love but not the kind that Xiaoyao needs. I remember from reading the book XL can't let go of his revenge and his war. I don't know whether drama will follow closely with the book. Out of all the male leads, the one who is ready to let go power/position/ambition/wealth just to follow XY's dreamy but boring life is Jing. That's why even reading the book, I never doubt from the beginning she will choose Jing. She has had enough becoming the second choice of everyone, and yes this includes her own parents. If my memory is correct, the other two male leads never ask her what she wants, only Jing ever does and he is willing to fulfill it for her.

You are 100% right. Xiaoyao told from the beginning, that she is not easily trusting anyone with her heart. She wasn't afraid of Xiang Liu and trusted him, because he could eat her, but stopped. But he chose to step back, knowing that he could complicate things for Xiaoyao. Also I guess he was afraid that she wouldn't really love him the way he is and would still be longing for Tushan Jing...

He wanted to stay with Xiao Yao. But he was afraid of being rejected by her and didn't believe, she could love him the way he is. We can see multiple times, how insecure he is about his own identity and appearance, as well as background. He doubts the feelings XY has for him because of her own words and actions, that are chaotic because of her own traumas and insecurities. At the end of the day he thought, that TSJ is the best option for XY because he has true feelings for her, is of a noble background and has enough power and resources to make sure, she will always have everything she needs. And also she has feelings for him, there is no denying it. As for Xiang Liu, I always say it: he didn't want to end up as a spare option, that XY uses to forget Jing and then throws away, when Jing comes back. He deliberately let XY think, he had no feelings for her all this time, he hid the nature of the lovers bugs and the reason, why he could lure the male bug into himself and so so much more. It is not his fault, but they were both wrong and both suffered. It's just that XL preferred to die to end things between them for good and not have to live and watch the woman he loves be happy with other man, knowing that they could have been so beautiful together. And he did it for Xiao Yao as well, because she could have had doubts later on, who knows.

Totally understand, what you mean, but I also think, we can both be right without contradicting each other. I mean, he actually did, in many ways. He even said it out loud, knowing all too well, that she won't take it seriously. They have a little dialogue when XY meets FFB after sending new poisons to XL. She asks hom, why did he want to meet with her and he answers with a poem, which literally states, that he fell in love at first sight. XY replies: "Do you think I'd believe that" and FFB answers: "If I thought, you'd believe it, I'd never dare to say it". Afterwards he does things and says things, that can't be anything, but him showing his love. The only problem is: he always tries to make her believe, that it's all part of a deal, very profitable for him. At the end of the day, he confessed, but made it all seem as a joke or anything, but the actual confession. And it was because he has seen, that XY loves TSJ and not him.

The way I see him as a novel reader is that he has such a selfless love. We readers could feel in many times that it looks like he is confessing to her in non-literal way but in fact he is either doing it for a plan or for a future purpose. And by means these plans and purposes are for Xiao Yao too and nobody can tell that at that moment cause his actions never revealed to the readers till the end of the book (characters in the book still got no clue.) So ppl can interpret it in many ways till reaching the end. XL self aware that he can not end up with XY. That is why he in fact support TSJ with his relationship. LOL XL is like a relationship councillor sometimes. He is a dutiful person and his loyalty and responsibility towards Chengrong army already gave him a doomed fate and he knows that. He not only gave many of his lives to save XY but also gave up his lives to save TSJ. That is how selfless love existed. He full-filled XY 3 wishes that she told him when they first met. I started this show thinking it was gonna be a love story between them and got really hooked… thankfully spoilers saved me from watching the whole thing and getting my heart broken
I liked him the best for her. He is little cruel but more manly and open in his feelings for her than the other two actors. The Jing character I found to be very weak and submissive and only females who like hen pecked husband will go for that.... And the brother did nothing but send her to meet different men because he wanted to rule.. Well, nowadays that would be called pimping. Best character and acting was xiang lu. He could speak with just his eyes. Would have liked him to have more screen time and the heroine as well.
So true. The setting, where the series takes place, dictates the rules and Xiang Liu had to be ruthless to his enemies. It's understandable, why he treated others with hostility. But as soon as he finds someone, who is not scared of him, understands his background, wants to genuinely share happy moments with him - he will do anything for her, to keep her safe and make her life better. Jing is really too soft and indecisive when it comes to almost anything. I am surprised he managed to negotiate anything for CangXuan. And, yep, the brother chose power, because he thought, it would help him protect his sister, but he also used her to get that power.
He confessed his love too late? ！Quite the opposite, he faced his feelings too early, so early that he could choose what he thought was the gentlest destined ending for this relationship. Background: Xiao Yao's parents were in the same situation as Xiao Yao and Xiang Liu now. However, Xiao Yao's parents chose to be together without hesitation, ultimately facing each other on the battlefield and both perishing.

He wanted to stay with Xiao Yao. But he was afraid of being rejected by her and didn't believe, she could love him the way he is. We can see multiple times, how insecure he is about his own identity and appearance, as well as background. He doubts the feelings XY has for him because of her own words and actions, that are chaotic because of her own traumas and insecurities.
At the end of the day he thought, that TSJ is the best option for XY because he has true feelings for her, is of a noble background and has enough power and resources to make sure, she will always have everything she needs. And also she has feelings for him, there is no denying it.
As for Xiang Liu, I always say it: he didn't want to end up as a spare option, that XY uses to forget Jing and then throws away, when Jing comes back. He deliberately let XY think, he had no feelings for her all this time, he hid the nature of the lovers bugs and the reason, why he could lure the male bug into himself and so so much more.
It is not his fault, but they were both wrong and both suffered. It's just that XL preferred to die to end things between them for good and not have to live and watch the woman he loves be happy with other man, knowing that they could have been so beautiful together. And he did it for Xiao Yao as well, because she could have had doubts later on, who knows.

you are wrong. he never confessed his love to her. he took that to his grave and even made sure that she never will find out that he was the one who cared for her more than anyone else even after death.
Totally understand, what you mean, but I also think, we can both be right without contradicting each other.
I mean, he actually did, in many ways. He even said it out loud, knowing all too well, that she won't take it seriously. They have a little dialogue when XY meets FFB after sending new poisons to XL. She asks hom, why did he want to meet with her and he answers with a poem, which literally states, that he fell in love at first sight. XY replies: "Do you think I'd believe that" and FFB answers: "If I thought, you'd believe it, I'd never dare to say it".
Afterwards he does things and says things, that can't be anything, but him showing his love. The only problem is: he always tries to make her believe, that it's all part of a deal, very profitable for him.
At the end of the day, he confessed, but made it all seem as a joke or anything, but the actual confession. And it was because he has seen, that XY loves TSJ and not him.
@@dirayne I see your point from the drama view cause TJC has to depict him like that if not it will be difficult for the viewers to understand XL's character. The way I see him as a novel reader is that he has such a selfless love. We readers could feel in many times that it looks like he is confessing to her in non-literal way but in fact he is either doing it for a plan or for a future purpose. And by means these plans and purposes are for Xiao Yao too and nobody can tell that at that moment cause his actions never revealed to the readers till the end of the book (characters in the book still got no clue.) So ppl can interpret it in many ways till reaching the end. XL self aware that he can not end up with XY. That is why he in fact support TSJ with his relationship. LOL XL is like a relationship councillor sometimes. He is a dutiful person and his loyalty and responsibility towards Chengrong army already gave him a doomed fate and he knows that. He not only gave many of his lives to save XY but also gave up his lives to save TSJ. That is how selfless love existed. He full-filled XY 3 wishes that she told him when they first met. She did not even realized that. Well can't blame her XL hide everything so well. I personally think XY do not deserve XL. She better off with TSJ.

So true. The setting, where the series takes place, dictates the rules and Xiang Liu had to be ruthless to his enemies. It's understandable, why he treated others with hostility. But as soon as he finds someone, who is not scared of him, understands his background, wants to genuinely share happy moments with him - he will do anything for her, to keep her safe and make her life better.
Jing is really too soft and indecisive when it comes to almost anything. I am surprised he managed to negotiate anything for CangXuan.
And, yep, the brother chose power, because he thought, it would help him protect his sister, but he also used her to get that power.
I need so much drama where they are main couple, the actors have too much chemistry to not realize it 😊
