This is the biggest tie in and epic finale in all the history of the show.
My thoughts:
- Star Swirled and the Pillars
- Pony of Shadows
- Old Ponish = Old English. Confirmed by what they said in Ep 24.
- Indiana Jones reference
- Petunia, that archeology pony from the Gabby ep.
- the origin on the Element/Tree o f Harmony
- more Old english/ponish
- the pillars staying in Equestria
- lesson for all adults, pride can cloud kindness and logic
- reflections of both types of elements
- More explanation on how magic works
- an epic soundtrack
- History of Equestria and Tie-ins
- Starlight being the voice of logic and reason
- Earth Ponies and Pegasus gave magic and with the help of a unicorn, infuse that magic into something like a normal unicorn.
- Celestia and Luna background on age, timeline, etc.
- Evidence of how dragons are adjusting to Ember's rule
- Seeing how the curved horned asian ponies have evolved
- darkness shrines? So there were times where those worshipped the darkness? Cool
- EQG world now canon, so Sunset may come over in Season 8?

- Sooo many VA's and characters in this ep.
- Wait, if they moved the flash bee hive, how will you get the cure now?
- Daring Do returns!
- I want episodes that focus on each of the pillars and how they are adjusting to life in this age now. Like Sonumbula seeing her village, Meadowbrook meeting her decendant, Flash Magnus meeting the Wonderbolts, etc.
- The animation looks sooo goood!!
- Stigion is alot of villians but in a different way that what marvel or DC does. They reason with the villian, not just kick butt.
- wait, so shadow can wipe out memories during the light if it takes over? That explains RD acting different in the Nightmare Moon timeline. Then Nightmare moon was an evolved shadow! And Sombra was a shadow too! Both shadows were sent to the moon after being defeated! A shadow fight in the future perhaps?! Oh the fan fics!
- So combined magic can grow and when connected to earth magic, can yield fruit of stored magic. So much analyzing to do!
- Ghastly Gorge was Ghastly Caverns? What does that mean for the evolution of the canyon eels?
- Evolution of Magic confirmed! My headcanon will now be added upon.
- wait, if the pillars existed at tge foundation/emerging world of Equestria, this must mean the world was ruled by the people and Celestia/Luna became the rulers after defeating Discord, finding the elements that their teacher left behind/something he hinted at in his writing. Since the pillars served at the castle, it would make sense they would put the tree near where they believed the center of the realm would be. So many tie-ins!!
- the former villian trying to figure out another villians motives. Cool!
- magic attuned to a certain pony? This is/enhances my core magic theory!
- Shadow realm? Future plot point?
- Sea pony ettiette? How do they know that?
- Starlight looking at Swirled when he sees the truth, priceless.
- When one is facing a darkness like drugs, you can't break free without help. Love the metaphor!
- Turning away from others hurts yourself
- When meeting your idol, don't forget yourself.
- So powerful magic is done with runes, some magic done by using writing, other by reading out enchanted words, simple magic by just focusing on the goal.
- Evolution of ponies, seen through the horn, appearance, etc. Explains Celestia/Luna's long horns and tall figure.
- Star Swirled may seem like a jerk but remember the S3 finale? Star Swirled's character makes sense. He is prideful and believes in knowledge and logic. Not in friendship and emotions. That is why Twilight could complete his spell.
- Woah! The shadow's goal is for everyone to be a shadow too, and feel despair. The bible references are strong in this ep, and possibly a season battle. This ep is full of of so much info!
- The shadow has the same invasive properties as venom from spiderman. It will make you stronger and start to control your actions. When you try to escape it, it controls you more. Only through others could you escape.
- This finale ties everything together and no everything makes sense. Season 8 is going to be so epic, but Season 7 has all my favorite episodes now.
'Once a villain, always a villain' he said? Yeah... I'd like to see how that quote would turn out with Princess Luna around :-S

Consider the time period he was from though, it was prior to Celestia or Luna growing up and thus in a world that appears similar to the Dark Ages. There was little room for weakness then, You had to finish your foe or they would could back and get you.
So many people are mad at Starswirl for being close-minded. But personally, I think he had more than enough reasons to act the way he did (not to mention he was humble enough to admit to his error and apologize at the end without hesitation). First of all, Twilight really messed up - she unleashed an ancient evil back onto the world without any back-up plan. Secondly, Starswirl's assumption about Stygian's intentions wasn't illogical - he did take the artifacts without asking after all, and borrowing with no permission is equal to theft. And lastly, Starswirl had no reason to believe Stygian could be reformed at all; the cleansing magic of the Elements didn't exist back in his time. Villains were either banished or imprisoned - there had never been another way. I think Luna's reformation thanks to the new Element bearers and Celestia's forgiveness opened a lot of new doors.
Say what you will, but I love Starswirl. He's proud and stubborn, and more of an introverted scholar than a master of empathy. But then again, he wasn't supposed to be one. Like Celestia said herself to Twilight, "he doesn't understand friendship as well as she does". He can learn however, and that is what's truly important.
Also maybe he was so hurt that Stigyan bretrayal that he don't want to listen( somehow like Moon Dancer)
I really hope that we get to see more of Starswirl in Season 8. There is so much potential in him and the interactions he could have with other characters. Like finding out about Discord's reformation (if he was around when Discord took over Equestria) and that Luna turned into Nightmare Moon and had to be banished.
Maybe we even get to see Scorpan (Tireks brother) again, since he and Starswirl were friends, of course only if Scorpan hasn't died of old age yet. (idkifhecan)
So excited for Season 8!!!

I'm telling you ppl: Starswirl is the Rick Sanchez of Equestria. He's a terminal a**hole and his go to solution to everything is a portal to an alternate universe.
I was thinking an alternate ending to this could have been that when they banish the shadow at the end it grabs starlight and drags her into the portal with him, then the whole of season 8 could have been about trying to get her back.

I thought of 3 possible things that could happen:
1) I think Chrysilis (spelled wrong probably) is gonna come across the power of darkness in that temple area thing
2) When you said there's 12 elements now, i instantly thought that Starlight and her friends are going to end up being those other 6 elements.
3) Also I think that they are leading up to EQG and MLP doing something like a crossover. Since EQG is getting kinda cannon and the portal is constantly open. We'll know for a fact that it's cannon if the pony of shadows ends up there with Sunset and her friends. Since magic from equestria is spilling through.
Imagine Luna telling Starswirl about Nightmare moon. Awkward..

It seems these shadowy powers are a force of its own; I dunno about Sombra, but it definitively seem like something similar to that which overcame Luna. Perhaps the source of these dark forces is what will be the final boss of the show so to speak. x3
It makes sense now that 7 gems were shown in the book for the Tree of Harmony's birth, it connects with how in the humane world Sunset is a 7th Element just like Stygian sort of is and how Starlight Glimmer is too.
I hope the series end or one episode shows all 3 groups of the guardians o Equestria. :D Although i am only theorising how the elements work and what stories they may take part of.

Actually, that shadow creature from season 4 was probably Tirek in his weak form, not Stygian, cause he was still in limbo

uuuuuuuh that depends i gues hahah its just how i like to pronounce it ^^
I don't think it was Tirek, considering the shadows that consumed Stygian have a consciousness of their own, and that the pillars and the Pony of Shadows had a battle in the old castle, it's very possible that the shadow creature was left over residue from that battle.
I think it's hard to believe that creators were thinking about season 7 finale during season 4

The more I see that Pony of Shadows corrupting Stygian, all I can think about is Venom forcing him into an emo phase.

So we have seen how the sirens got banished to the human world. Question: are we ever going to find out what happened to them after Rainbow Rocks ? A lot of fans have been asking this, maybe we'll find out in season 8 or in the Equestria girls series. Also Applejack mentioned that she thinks a branch of the Apple family lives at the Hollow Shades. Maybe those family members have some information about Bright Mac and Pear Butter ?

Hmm, I really liked the concept of the finale and it was indeed awesome!
However, the writing and composition of this one was kind...dull?
Idk it didn't really have a climax and just felt monotonous throughout the episodes.
