The racism theme is very well placed and used, this episode is amazing beyond words. It's a very shaky topic especially as of late, so I can just applaud the writers for the work obtuse episode. Powerful good hearted and our first Spike solo 10/10 from me
I disagree it was awfully rushed and the song was useless. The focus should had been the changeling earning the trust of the empire not what spike was losing to stand up for him. I like spike as a character especially in gauntlet of fire but this episode should had been about the changeling more then him. Have the song shouldn't been there it was repetitive and the lesson makes no sense since he was never bad to begin with and it could have the changeling talk to earn his trust but instead spike sings and instant trust. everyone forgets that changelings replace people to invade other places and no one questions why spike was willing to go out on a limb for him and keep in mind he never told them that he saved his life twice and if he said that it would make a little sense but no he didn't and for all they know he could be replaced. This episode can either get worse or better if they continue the plot line but as of now I rate this 1/10.

Spike was already someone who was trusted by just about everyone and I don't think anyone would've trusted Thorax had it not been for Spike. Not to mention that Spike probably already understands what it's like to be in Thorax's position with him being a dragon and dragons being mostly feared up until this point. Because of this, I'd argue that Spike was the most suitable for this. To answer you point about why Thorax didn't speak to try and earn trust, I'd say that Thorax was probably already scared as it was.
Just want to say, at 20:55, look closely at Starlight. Just so much details!!!!! At that line about darkness turning to light, how it is possible for someone to change... the face she makes! It's just so detailed and beautiful!

Not quite. They talked in *pony form*, but we didn't know - until this episode - if they could talk in their natural state. So much background/lore added with so little dialogue... WOW!
I never thought of it that way, the same way a hyper-intelligent dog still couldn't speak coherently because their anatomy just isn't made for those noises. We don't know how many of them can speak even now I guess. Thorax may have shifted just his throat to speak pony language, or may have had to work really hard at it.

Gutes React, und ne top Spike Episode, diese Season lassen sie Spike entlich mal in nem guten Licht da stehen, dass find ich echt nice. In meine React ( noch net bearbeitet ) kam ich dann auf die idee was wenn im final Queen chrysalis + army wieder kommt (da die ja auch hungern) und er hieft sie zum guten zu bekehren... das wäre bestimmt auch hammer, also das das so ne vorbereitungs folge ist ( so wie starlight auch in season 5 in den folgen aufgetaucht ist)

I wasn't a fan of the song, personally. It was more melodramatic and cliche than touching or heartfelt, execution-wise. It was either hit or miss for viewers, I observe, so it could have been much better.
