Thanks for uploading, this is a really great episode. Bernie is what you'd consider a perfect guest for a show like this, he's intelligent, has personality, and knows how to joke with Regis. It seemed like he was just here to have fun and wasn't that nervous.
I appreciate him for not giving 30 second explainations about the obvious 100 to 500 dollar questions like most people do
He seemed arrogant for me

He was a former 5-day champ on Jeopardy at tye statt of 1996-97 so he obviously has the strength to answer tough questions!
Why is that show called Who wants to be a Millionaire when you have to pay taxes in the USA and therefore don‘t walk out with 1 million dollar? Misleading title lol

Interesting trivia:
On Bernie's $500,000, "simoom" refers to a hot wind, usually covered with sand (basically winds you'd find in the Arabian desert); "string theory" is a concept in physics, and is occasionally the titular "theory of everything" (I have no idea how it works, though); and "saprobity" connects to toxic waste and when matter decays.
String theory is like a guitar string, once strung and how it vibrates, its something to do with physics
Regis Philbin passing away this week was a sad moment in television history for so many, myself included; watching Bernie Cullen dominate this classic WWTBAM episode changed all that and made my heart smile! My all time favorite episode too😍RIP to an indelible legend indeed🌷#gonebutnotforgotten

Point being, any question for $1,000,000 that nearly 70% of the audience chooses correctly with 4 choices is probably not a $1,000,000 level question.

@Bryce Jowett "N" numbers aren't so-named for being "non-military." The registration prefix system comes from before the era of aircraft registrations, and is based on the international radio call-sign system established in 1913.

Is Regis saying they made the chance of getting on the show through the phone game more randomised at the start, because they removed the second stage of questions and added a random draw? I've been curious about the phone game because there's no recordings of it at all I can find.

Obviously you want as many wrong answers up there as possible so you get fewer members of the audience just guessing the right answer…
Exactly! Or maybe you should ask the audience to vote for one of the two gone answers if they don't know the answer for sure. Then you can compare the percentages of the two remaining answers, but the risk is that almost no one votes for these answers.
This came up on David Goodman's run, luckily he had all 3 lifelines.

I actually think this is a very easy question for the million dollar question. It’s common sense right off the bat being N for Non-military. BUT on the other hand that would make me think it was a trick question and actually be U
U seemed like an "obvious" choice if someone makes a connection between "U" and 'United States" perhaps. But I also thought this was on the easier side for an MDQ as well. An MDQ probably shouldn't get that kind of a majority when the audience is asked

It's funny, i thought the million dollar question was easy and i also got the 500k question, but the problem is getting to that level which i would not have managed.
