    The music is a little loud, would have liked to hear more of the conversations. But other than that, fun video.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      Without the music its just as loud but with convention noises and copyright music so its kind of hard to figure out the right mix of music to clean up the overall sound and enough audio to still here what is going in in the video.

    Nice pickups on those Fiction House comics! Those are beautiful. That Venus for $1000…oh man that was such a beautiful book. Thanks for taking such great footage.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      Yeah they were in such nice condition, I could not resist and the prices were pretty reasonable for the grade. I took them out of the bags to check them out and they are glossy too and the whites are white. If I find more in this grade for that price I am gonna have a hard time not grabbing more lol Just too beautiful. The Venus was in pretty nice shape too, I was so close to pulling the trigger. If I find the same vendor at NYCC I might have to get it, not sure. I looked and saw some decent ones sell for $500-$700 on heritage but I think his was slightly higher graded just not slabbed. And you are very welcome it was fun filming at the con.

    Fiction House have some of the best covers, especially when the ink hasn't faded (which is common).

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      Yeah I have decided that Fiction House is the next company that I will focus my collecting on. Such beautiful covers. I lucked out and found a handful today for a decent price at NYCC. I could not believe I actually purchased a Planet Comics issue, the cover is detached but its not torn or ripped so it presents really well.

    Vic voiced Broly in Dragon Ball ( all the movies there are with him) but sadly the voice actor for Bulma got him fired saying he sexually harrased her ( he is not the only she has done this to). Now Johnny M. Bosch has replaced him. I did not know he did other anime.
    How often does Cool Kid say dad I want to go or I'm board when you guys are at comic cons?

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      Apparently he voiced a ton of Anime, I really did not know much about him. He becomes my camera so I give him something to do to keep him from getting too bored. He does eventually get bored though and wants to get back to hunting the things he wants. In this case I was feeling tired so almost did not go to the con lol he is the one that dragged me out and got me motivated to go lol

    Dig those Jungle and Jumbo Comics but they are a little to pricey for me. The best I could hope for is finding someone who wants to quickly onload them for a cheap price. Maybe one day I will treat myself to a few copies.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      They are gorgeous but expensive as heck. These particular ones were in such nice grade I kind of had to pull the trigger. My wife has convinced me to to get a handful of really nice books at each event instead of filling a box out of the dollar bins. I end up spending about the same but one fills my space too full.

    With you looking at the 'Jungle' comic books a question struck me, in the UK now certain old tv shows that i used to love are no longer shown because of their un P.C. language and potrayal of different cultures, and i thought 'are there comic books that you will no longer buy because of their portrayal of different cultures or is that not a factor?'

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому +1

      History is important, and a lot of the Jungle books have Artwork by Matt Baker, the first Black comic artist so I enjoy them both for their beautifully drawn art but also the historic importance in the comic world. Yes some of the themes are not PC today but I don't think history should be hidden away etc. Open dialogue about racism, sexism is super important even more so today.

    As a dealer, (in art, collectibles, anime, comic-related, etc) I don't understand why this incessant need to have these shows IN the city. Everything is crammed, parking is expensive, you have to stay all the way in Jersey......why can't these shows be held in some NICE SUBURBAN hotel (in the state of NY) with a large ballroom or two with massive amounts of free parking? This is why I shy away from NY CITY shows....and I see that some of table spaces are ONLY 6 FEET....and I KNOW the table costs are outrageous for only 6 Feet too. Help me out with this "thinking"... You all may THINK its "cool" and the "vibe" to have it IN the city...but you promoters reading this need to look at more affordable options. To Pop Comics - you do realize that one little 6 foot table space the dealer had was probably $700 right? A space like that was expensive years ago....I shudder to think what it costs NOW. I hope you supported that guy by actually BUYING something from him.....

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      Depends on the convention, there is a bunch in other parts of the tri state area. Personally since I don't drive I love any of the conventions I can get to easily with mass transit in the city so I prefer these since they are easy for me to get to.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  3 роки тому

      I spent about $800 at the convention, hope that is enough for you to support someone lol but seriously I will buy what I like if I like the price regardless of the table fee to be at the convention.

    • @dancalmpeaceful3903
      @dancalmpeaceful3903 3 роки тому +1

      @@pop-comics And I will AGREE that is the same philosophy I've heard from those same promoters. They like having it in the city due to the mass transit availability....but I have to tell you, as a dealer, to do those shows is DAMNED expensive.

    • @dancalmpeaceful3903
      @dancalmpeaceful3903 3 роки тому

      @@pop-comics Anybody who spends $500 or more at a comic show is OKAY in my book. Although I wasn't there...I think I can say thank you for supporting the convention. Every dollar you spend...counts and is highly appreciated. I tell my clients - just spend $5 with me...and I'll be grateful. The costs are exorbitant so EVERY single dollar counts.

      Sadly they rejected us for press passes after giving them to us the last 5 years or so. We were a little bummed, but without them its expensive and a long wait to get it which drives me crazy so I think we will pass it this year. Hopefully they like our con content enough to give us passes next year.
