Where is this guy at? This is my type of clean cut repair! Look at that impact tool wrapped with a bag while he's taking off the conductor plate... Now that is detail oriented!!! Love it
Thanks for the video. This was the most physically challenging repairs I have ever done because I had to do it on 2 jackstands and my shoulders are tanked. I still don't have the ATF topped off. I added 3.7 quarts, then 200ml at a time. But I have to wait a long time to get an accurate measurement with the dipstick because the ATF kind of clings to the fill tube. Anyway, my P0715 code is gone and it shifts! Thanks for a great video.
Best by far. I am a mechanical person by trade and I am a big fan of these DIY videos. I have an 06 E350 4matic @ 106K and have been doing all the maintenance myself and this was tops by far!! TY
Very clear instructions, camera angles and speaking. Thanks! I won't be doing this myself because I live in an apartment and don't have a way to jack up my W220 s430. But I wanted to see what is involved when my mercedes mechanice does the work. Thanks again.

Hi I have this gearbox fitted to my car and it wont drive. In neutral and park it will rev freely as it should but in D and R it will only rev to 2k and won't even try to move an inch. It's had a new conductor plate but no luck. What else could be of course ? Great video by the way very easy to follow and understand. Great work ❤
on the Left side of the transmission their is a manual valve that you have to be carfull of when installing the valvebody. he did not show this on the video. 7:53 that yellow thing has to line up with a valve.
Yeah, I have yet to see a video showing how to overcome this issue by oneself. Notice his breathing right before he says you can catch your breath after first to bolts are in!
Great video. Have you ever had one of these were you use the kick down on the throttle the gearbox goes into a weird gear change mode as when you accelerate the car she stays around 1000rpm and up shifts all the way to 7th no throttle response and slowly goes faster. Hope I described that ok.
Typically that is a failing Accelerator Position Sensor/Throttle Position Sensor. If there is something wrong with the APS/TPS the DME will typically detect a failure when you apply 100% throttle. It will then go into the limp mode and act the way you describe.
Excellent video. If I had to add anything to the video I would have shown the gasket replacement for the pan and maybe point out torque converter drain plug if that's what I think I saw.
Excellent video, did you drain the torque converter as well? It seems a shame to put new fluid in if half the old stuff is still in the torque converter.
That plate has been commanded from ECU ( car computer) . Only execute the commands that ECU give . Is a "slave" part and dont think need to be programmed

Thank you for a no-nonsense direct audio/video explanation. What is the torque setting on those valve body bolts as I couldn't hear if you said 7" or 17" inch lbs? What is the torque setting for the pan bolts?
Great video! Thanks. A couple of questions. Do the solenoid hold down bolts require torquing? Second, should the solenoids be inspected and tested when I have them out? I figured it might be a good idea, especially on an older car.
I did this same job twice e500 and s500 I tested the solenoids cleaned the screens and installed the sonnax kits one very important point he does not mention in the video is the gear selector it has to fit back into the groove on the selector or your gears will not work and if you install the sonnax tcc damper both half have to be separated and the retainer ring has to hold the tcc valve in place but if you do not have the 722.6 diagram o would not attempt this because it's a possibility that the check balls can come out...but yes always check the solenoid with a ohm meter or 12v battery
That brittle bit of plastic that came came apart at @5:23 had me looking away; @7:12 good thing that little piece of plastic on the cardboard didn’t tag along during the reassembly process
I've taken off the pan and found a different gearbox from your description, on the valve body is written AB-AA-AAAAA. It has the plug, but it is sitting vertically! After draining the fluid & removing the pan, I then set about disconnecting the plug from hell. Yes, it was soaking wet with transmission oil! There is one orange ring in the plug & it's damaged! We are talking of a seven speed transmission. What to do?...... I wonder whether I can just replace the seal, plug it all back in, re-fill with new filter & hopefully the reset will work?....... Really hoping you might know or have a vidio on this 7 speed box!........ Thank you in advance.
Josh, hopefully you're checking this. Of the 6 solenoids, it's obvious which two are the pressure solenoids based on shape alone, but the other 4 - the Lockup, 2/3, 1/2&4/5 and the 3/4, are those four solenoids interchangeable? I've noticed slightly different part numbers and didn't know if those might just be MB revision numbers or if there are specific ones for each of those 4 solenoids. I got an unusual condition just 24 hours after installation in that when downshifting (say 4th to 2nd), the trans shifted real hard then revved but it didn't actually downshift. I immediately put it in neutral and coasted to a stop. I re-engaged into drive and all was fine. Won't try it again but I'm wondering if I have a misplaced solenoid or even a bad one from the kit I bought. Thanks!
have a CLK 2006, and it's got stuck in 'get you home mode'. Started doing strange things two years ago, switching off and on again restored normal operation for about a year. Then it started again, same thing. Suddenly got worse now locked in some sort of default. Tried to reset it, even worse now!...... 60K miles only, light use. I assume the Transmission Valve Body Plate and Plug have gone wrong. Am I in the right area. If I replace the unit and service the box with fresh oil and filter, will the computer go back to it's original setting. Some advise would be very helpful indeed.

I only have one problem with this video when you pooped up the conductor plate a little metal ball flew out you can see in the video I’d imagine that was important so where would it go if I had to put it back ?
Why not test the solenoids for operation, holding pressure, voltage and resistance specs. I use up several cans of cleaner completely sanitizing the areas i work.
OK, Mercedes Automatic Gearbox Lovers, beware!. From 2004, Mercedes changed these problimatical (electronics) gearboxers to the 722-9. This is the 7 speed box that has evolved from the descrbed 5 speed here. The ECU is, in the later case, inside the Electronic Control Unit, ‘in the gearbox”. The interesting find in all this drama is, that even the 722-9 leaks oil up into the multi plug (new vertical design) and seems to cause the same sort of problems. The only difference is, even when you’ve cleaned up the multi plug, put a new seal in it (only for dust now), the gearbox MUST be reset with a garage having the proper MB eqiupment to talk to your central ECU and reset it!. A Y3/8n2 fault pointed to an internal tranmission fault. My local MB dealer was able to reset it (after the service I did) and hey presto, all is well again!…….. PS. on a 722-9, you are apparently meant to drain the Torque converter too. That was new to me!……….. I wait for an update with great interstest. Thanks for all the information, I hope I can forget about it for another 10 years!
We did replace valve body and the conector...Buț îs not working...?! The speed îs not changing .. Do I need to go to the dealer to conect the computer...?

Thanks for the tip. The transmission take around 9l for a complete fill of ROWE ATF 9004 www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/419880/Auto-Trans-Fluid-HIGHTEC-ATF-9004-1-Liter-25050001003/
I took out the valve body to move the pins around because they got a little bent while putting the plug in, straighten those out now my car is stuck in neutral, wont shift into reverse or drive, please help
Great video.
I have 07 E350 4matic, it would not shift gears while it revs up, I followed the video step by step, replaced the TCM plug and the conductor plate, however, the problem still exist. also, the manual speed "techtronic" would not shift either. all solenoids are at 5 Ohms except for one at 3 ohms. ???? any idea what the problem could be???
Need to clear TCM codes with a diagnostics tool or at the dealer.
I can ask you for the tightening torque of the bolts of the whole gearbox, thanks
I only have one problem with this video when you pooped up the conductor plate a little metal ball flew out you can see in the video I’d imagine that was important so where would it go if I had to put it back ?
very fine!!!!thank's from Armenia!
Awesome video, thanks!
is this the same as a mercedes sprinter van? 722.683 is the exact model my sprinter
Why not test the solenoids for operation, holding pressure, voltage and resistance specs. I use up several cans of cleaner completely sanitizing the areas i work.
Good job Josh.
That's correct George, the dealer or a Mercedes specialist will be able to reset the TCM
I have a s500 and i have a problem in the gear box the shfting to the second speed is too sloly
Can you help me ?
