    Thanks for this vid, I really enjoy all your content - I am just getting into muzzle-loading and started buying like you. Grabbed my CVA LR-X and a Vortex Scope, Okay not bad - then bullets, powder, primers, cleaning supplies, etc. then realized DAMN I'M SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY! I was pissed when ammo prices went up for regular hunting rifles but wow muzzle-loading is expensive!

      Thanks for the kind words, the weather is finally breaking here in the mid atlantic, I want to get to the range and get some shooting in. I love the gun it's very accurate. I did take a doe at 140 yards with mine last season.

    I have the CVA MRX just like yours muzzle brake and all although I did opp to go with a Zeiss high end scope. Paid more for the scope than the whole rifle setup.
    I’m shooting the 270 ELR bullets using 110 grains of black horn 209 by volume. I zeroed my gun at 200 yards and I’m very pleased with sub 1 1/2 groups at that distance. I also bought the CVA ELR brass tip , I use mine with a TC ball starter , works great. I found some shot shell primer’s made in France for 75 bucks a thousand , I’m very pleased with how well the perform , much better that anything else I’ve found. They burn hot and that’s what I’ve found works best with Blackhorn powder. Good luck with your CVA. Great gun for sure.

    You know I was going to get the 45 caliber version of this rifle but I ended up going with the 50 caliber. because 50 caliber accessories and ammunition are just more accessible at big box stores.
    So for example if I don't have time to order something online because I'm in a hurry I can always find 50 caliber accessories and ammunition at Bass pro shops or Cabela's really quickly. so it's just more convenient at least until 45 caliber gets to the popularity of 50 caliber.
    Because I do agree that 45 caliber is superior to 50 caliber in some regards but if I don't have that convenience it just makes it all that much more difficult if I'm in a hurry.

    FWIW I have used CCI regular 209 primers with Blackhorn and my CVA Wolf with no hangfires or misfires.

      I did get a chance to setup the adjustable comb on the stock and look through the scope. Very similar to the Nikon slug hunter which I have. If that's the case I will love it as well.

    Sucks you bought an extra breechplug but it is nice to have an extra breechplug. They dont last forever and if by chance you ever lose one or damage one you have a backup. Also the powerbelt ELRs shoot decent out of my MRx but they are expensive. I got the Fury star tip .402 (250grain) with harverster sabots and they shoot amazing plus they are bonded bullets and should have much better performance than the copper plated powerbelts

  • @timjk32

    Buy the sabots and bullets separately an put them 2gether ur self

    For one you have to figure in the fact that everything is inflated since the start of Covid. Second this is not the old H&R muzzleloaders from days gone by. I had one of the first rifles to use 209 primers because of an aftermarket primer nipple made back in the 70’s. Third you are now shooting a precision muzzleloader. I shoot Precision Dead Center bullets and they are expensive as well. I have BH209 and going to try it in my Remington 700ml. Let us know how you do on sighting in dialing in the load.

    Don't you have to use a funnel to load loose powder with a muzzle brake? Having to store the ram rod seperate from the gun is bad enough I'm not digging out a funnel also for a follow up shot in the mountains

    • @killakacti
      @killakacti  Рік тому

      Yes and yes, the way I have my pack setup it's just as easy to access the ram rod and funnel as everything is stored in the same pocket.

    • @gregopelt9603
      @gregopelt9603 Рік тому +1

      I put funnel on a lanyard wear around my neck made of shock cord I can load faster and better with funnel because bullet go's through the funnel anarchy sends with if not arrowhead has great funnel

    With the Anarchy Muzzle break on did you have to get a longer Ram Rod than the standard 30'' collapsable one it comes with?

      The field ramrod it comes with works with the muzzlebreak with no issues.

    Very angry at CVA because my Accura MR-X 45 barrel is OVERSIZE and does not shoot accurately.
    I was trained as a gunsmith so know how to slug a barrel for size and after I realized something was wrong part of troubleshooting was check bore size.
    My Berger barreled CVA has a 454 bore and 462 groove so a 450 ELR bullet rattles down the bore and I get 8" groups at 100 yards.
    I sent the rifle to CVA warrenty and they said it "met spec" and they sent me a target that I doubt was shot with my rifle. I've shot freehand, on sandbags and in a rifle rest and it performs the same : badly.
    Note - a 454 jacketed bullet drops freely down the barrel so that's another check that the barrel is faulty.
    I HAVE gotten it to shoot accurately with tan MMP sabots and 200 gr Hornady 400 cal JHP (roll the bullet between course files to add texture to the surface, then put a slip of paper around the bullet and place it into the sabot with the ends out a slit the cut the excess ends off flush... This expands the diameter overall so you get the proper bullet tension for powder ignition)
    I've owned multiple CVA blackpowder rifles down through the years but this may be my last one because I'm thoroughly disgusted at CVA quality control, there's NO EXCUSE for an oversize barrel in this day and age and that they wouldn't fix it is bad customer relations.

      @Eggomania86 9 місяців тому

      I am not sure if this is safe to do, for the sake of experimenting, have you tried to fit a .458 or .459 projectile down the barrel? Something like a bullet designed for a 45-70 or .458 Socom? You mentioned that a .454 bullet just slides freely down the bore. I'm curious If a standard. 458 bullet would work?

    • @bobjoatmon1993
      @bobjoatmon1993 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Eggomania86 yes, I've done quite a bit of experiments.
      I have quite a few 458 molds which cast unsized 460 so it was obvious to try some. The problem is that driving the bullet down into the rifling requires so much force that it heavily distorts the nose (and collapsed the nose of the hollow point one). So I thought that I only mostly need guidance in the bore and secondary sealing. So I ordered a mold from Accurate Molds with modifications: the top band nearest the nose is full 460 diameter but the lower bands are 454 ( since cast bullets usually cast 0.002 over this will just engage the rifling without requiring a lot of force).
      I have a second mold coming that is a slightly larger Minnie Ball that is 452 so hopefully it will drop down as cast but I can size it if necessary. Note that this is a nose pour mold since it requires a pin in the mold to form the hollow base cavity (the mold isn't back from being modified and the base pin made @ hollowpointmold.com/
      )
      So hopefully one of these molds will work, but again, most purchasers of the rifle wouldn't have the resources or knowledge to try to make the rifle work like I do. And if I were to sell the rifle, it would be useless without the custom molds I'm doing. I'll repeat that I'm very pissed off at CVA because this is just shoddy product and F'd up corporate policies.
      Also, if the question of using patched round ball arises, I have other more traditional BP rifles that I do shoot ball in BUT THIS RIFLE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A MORE MODERN SLUG GUN, so it's the principle of the thing NOT to settle for the less effective or accurate slugs I was effectively promised in the advertising.
