Great video as usual and great chat. Your piece about old age very relevent for me. I am 71 started hillwalking in my early 20's played rugby until I was 52, go skiing every year for past 20 years and also cycle and swim. I have completed 2 rounds of the Munros and got 21 Corbetts still to do. Touch wood amazingly had few serious problems with hips and /or Knees. Back is a bit of an issue at times. I intend to keep going as long as possible. Your videos bring back so many memories of my days in the hills Carpe Diem.
Cheers Paul, you’ve made the most of it mate and still going strong 💪. I gave up 5 aside to protect myself from injury, get more of a buzz summiting a mountain 🏔️ 😁
I had a very similar experience in glen nevis in winter. Got into a bit of bother and had to traverse out with ice axe with help from a passer by. Was so close to sliding down a couple hundred meters. You never appreciate life as much as directly after it and it makes you really take your time and make safe choices. Glad you and your friend were safe!
Did it years ago, also from Kinlochleven. It was in cloud on Na Gruagaichean and I set off for Binnien Mor, down the wrong ridge! 😮 Fortunately I didn’t walk far before realising my error. A nice group of four Munros on a day walk. Thanks for sharing.
I think I know the ridge you mean, that would take you towards the Ring of Steall route? Just reading the comments, seems we’re not alone on having epic moments on these hills.
I just turned 60, and am still backpacking and hiking, but you're spot on - we can't predict or control whatever is coming our way. Enjoy every minute you can!
@@WalkWithWallaceHi Robin, seasons greetings. Watching your 2 day trip om the mamores, brought back fond memories of doing all four in a day from kinlochleven. In my mid sixties still hill walking without the dodgy joints. YET!!!!. Still driven by a love of the mountains( like Andy with his tennis) even if it takes me longer, does not diminish the enjoyment!!!.
@ hi Neil, all the best for the new year. I’ve always fancied a shot at all ten in a day. Should still have it in me. I hope to hike into my old age but take nothing for granted either.
Smashing Robin, really enjoyed that, glad you had some clearer weather on day two, stunning views across the Mamores, I'm off somewhere soon, dunno where yet, but looking forward to bagging a few before the winter, hopefully a clear summit camp, ATB , Scotland Forever. 🎬
Beautiful part of the world, Robin - thank-you. I guess we all get curious about what's going to go first as we get older - and about what we think we could potentially cope with. My hearing's never been that great and so, I thought it'd be that - as I didn't think it'd be as easy as catching a certain virus, to lose your senses of taste and smell; nor what might cause a loss of touch sensations. I prayed I'd not end up blind - and that if I have to go into a home then please make me ga-ga; I just never thought it would be my mobility! Yet here I am at the age of 60 - and three and a bit years into being more or less dependent on mobility scooters and wheelchairs - not to mention incontinence pads, and numbing of the extremities! Slightly less efficient than they once were, I do however retain all my senses - alas, they're no so good at getting me out in the hills - but that's why I'm so greatful to you guys, who share your walks on UA-cam!
Hey Paul, sorry to hear about your mobility. One thing I’ve learned is take nothing for granted and not to live to work as life is too short. Anyway on a cheery note, I’m chuffed vids on UA-cam keep you going and the Mamores are beautiful. Cracking range to hike and camp on.
Great vid Robin, that view for the pitch, wow! In fact, all the views! Interesting to hear stories like you had, not enough people happy to share just to portray the perfect picture for the social media gratification. It's good for people to know it can and does happen even if you have a lot of hills under your belt! Cheers, Duncan.
Cheers mate, we were complete novices, probably a good thing to have our wings clipped as I was a bit gallus! Good experience to share for the reasons you state.
Good one guys. Brings back wonderful memories of camping beside the lochans in 2007 to bag these 4. The weather was perfect so it's probably my favourite camping trip.
Hi Robin, I topnotch pitch with a view, absolutely stunning. Well worth the effort for your overnighter 👍 The old age aches and pain slowly creeps up on you but you've just got to solider on and prolong the walking for as long as possible.... I'm certainly visiting tops that I won't be back on which is a shame but the reality is that targets need to match your capability. I still think there will always be a bump somewhere that I can be up even if its no very high and close to the car 🤣 Cheers

Another guid vid! 👍🏼 That was quite a story about yer previous experience on the ridge! 😮 Knee replacement patter! 😅 Take a good grass-fed collagen supplement to prolong yer joints (by the time we reach 50 our collagen has halved!).
