    Just completed my conversion, partially inspired by your video. I broken the original hub a couple of months back. The derailleur only gets a few millimeter clearance from the tyre on the lowest gear but is pulled forward away from the ground at least. All in all, very pleasing and so much lighter than original!

      Hi Simon, sounds great! And you are ahead of us! This has been a slow one 😂 Is it wonderful to ride?

    It's going to be a great bike. My APB started out as an 8 speed with a grip shift, and it worked well enough. But then I upgraded it with a Dura Ace 7700 2x9 driveline with a Capreo cassette. The silver color suited the color of the bike, the gear range was good, and it was smooth as butter. But then I got a good deal on a Dura Ace 9070 11 speed Di2 kit, and couldn't resist installing it. I love how easily these old Moultons can be upgraded. If you want good cantis, I'd recommend TRP Eurox.

      Hi ! Thanks for sharing, that sounds like a great project / bike! I love the idea of a Moulton with Dura Ace! Thank you for watching.

      Sarah's APB has no braze on for front derailer, and not a nornal seatpost diamater so can't fit a front derailier. Have seen your APB upgrades, as i am an APB owner! A fan of Russ who has a channel called Path Less Pedasled who has encountered this issue with small bike frame builders not using industry standards if there really are standards!

    Thought about getting one in the 90s, cool design. Think they were around £500 - bit rich 🤑

      Yeah we were lucky to get a bargain but have certainly spent a lot on it getting it to this stage!!! Thanks for watching. 😀

    🐾🐦 Paul on my 90s apb , i had to get new wheels, i went for bmx plastic alloys ! , my question is its a single speeder , now there's enough room for a derailier cluster, but i don't know who does a conversion, I've seen the Japanese enthusiasts whith this style so i know it's doable , so im asking 4 your advice ,, the wheels came whth decent tyres in new condition so were affordable, not like the frame which was expensive and needed to be collected and allso needs some low temperature brazing , ouch , ta 🐾🐦

      Hi thanks for watching. In response to your question the main issue with putting gears on a single speed wheel is there is usually clearance issues and once overcoming those potentially the wheel will need to be re-dished which would be impossible on a plastic BMX wheel. (Dishing is making sure the rim is central over the hub). I don’t know who does that type of work - we would buy the correct wheel as it makes it easier. Cheers

      I'm surprised you have gone for Billy Bonkers! I've hadMmad Mikes on my APB. Admittedly my dropout width is 132mm. It was a very tight installation with tyre fully deflated! Also I pointed out thjat front tyre clearance with 2.0"was very minimal like5mm at top of fork. So be mindful of that! Great in dry weather, but may be a problem on muddy rail trails in the wet!

      So at present have Marathon Plus 1.75 on, and not planning on fitting mudguards. So now has slightly better clearange at the front!

      Clarifying rear wheel installtion tyre had to be deflated, front okay with the Mad Mike tyres which were 2.0" also!

    Puul my comment about front derailier choice was not meant for you, but 'two wheels in tokyo'. I know seatpost non standard, as well as no braze on, so 1x best choice. No argument with your choice

    I think front chainring is too small! Good for uphill but not good for flat, or downhil[.

    • @veloworks9266
      @veloworks9266  5 місяців тому

      Good point this is something we are mindful of and we have bought a larger chainset to start with but Sarah wants easy gears so the 30t might work
