Sounds great, you're a monster on that instrument my friend. And doing it from memory?!?! I love the fact that this is done on a Fortepiano (The origional instrument) and in a setting that would be similar to where it was written. This is likely what it sounded like to Beethoven as he wrote it.
Yeah mate, there are bunch version of this piece that also played at fortepiano. But, what makes the difference is other musicians used to play in modern grand piano, and when they are playing it in fortepiano, it just not match the character like musicians that plays on fortepiano in the first place. Their play it too soft while this video really meant to play hard. Most fortepiano are old technology and aged instrument, imagine how fragile it is and Beethoven was really come to the limit where fortepiano can probably wrecked by stress of the piece played on it. However, I love how this piece sounded like an old monster are screaming in tall stone tower, waiting to be unleashed by a brave pianist that really hold the limit of this instrument.
Very nice performance, but the way the grace notes were done in the middle section of the first movement freaked me out. It was way more rubato than anyone might normally think of putting in.
What power this fortepiano has!!!!!! No wonder Beethoven's piano music is sacred! How could one NOT be driven and inspired to compose titanic works for an instrument such as this. After the tepid fortepianos of the Mozart/Haydn era, this instrument begged for a composer of the likes of Beethoven. The power and drama created by the dynamic range would drive any composer with the talent of Beethoven to an early grave trying to match with music, what this instrument is capable of. Schubert, following Beethoven, showed the poetic power of this instrument with his compositions. A new era of music arrived with the capabilities of this instrument. Beethoven"s Broadwood burned the path to the modern piano as a result of the the composer's sonatas, 32 of them, showing the full capabilities of the Broadwood in that era.
Watch "Forte Piano Collections in England." There are some helpful pointers by the presenters on proper pianoforte technique. Your overplaying Beethoven's sforzando markings as though they were fortissimos, utterly too loud not to mention a wholesale disregard of the composer's staff markings. As Andras Schiff has said: I am not deaf!
I really don't like the sound of fortepiano. If I agree that cembalo should/could be preferred to piano for its repertorio, on the contrary I feel that this instrument is imperfect, if compared to a modern piano (ok, not too modern, as the accuracy that classical composers require do not fit with the latest trend of mellow grands..a current fashion). Just an opinion.. but this instrument sounds terribly unstable

It's incredible how many great artists there are beyond the ones who are packaged and marketed to us.

If he enjoys playing it that way, more power to him.
yes i think it was too rubato, but he catched the rythm perfectly. maybe that wasnt beethoven's intention; but i liked it
Why can't I give more than one like to this
Magnificent. Absolutely glorious.

Serious? Nevar heard of him till his Mozart sonatas appeared in my feed. Lets hope UA-cam keep his memory alive in this music.
Great performance, but bad acoustic.
Muhammad Najib i think its a bad microphone
Muhammad Najib maybe there is echo
I think he's in a too big hall that has so much reverb
I liked it!
Feels more natural
