Sure wish Don Reno was still alive. I met him years back and was impressed with his style. What a nice person he was. Really do miss him in every way. Was happy to get acquainted with him . My grandson loves bluegrass music and would have loved for him to meet Don. Anyway rest in peace Don and God bless.
RFD-TV used to run these old performances. I had them all recorded on my DVD player......upgraded to a newer DIRECTV Geni.....and kept my old recorder. A week later it broke, and I can't access hours of recordings!! (My DVR recorder broke before I could make copy discs, and you cannot find these now, unless you wanna spend $1,000.00 or so!) I didn't!
Thanks for the song. My dad used to play a few times with Don Reno long after Red Smiley went there separate way. I talking more than 50 years ago. One thing I remember, I never seen Don Reno ever use a capo on his banjo to make the octaves higher. He was what anyone would call it, just that damn good. His banjo sound was a little different but he was in the same class as Earl Scruggs.
Boy this is an oldie video. Dons son Ronnie is matured. The fiddle player is Mac Magaughey. I think R & S stressed a bunch of exhuberant movement. I wish I had a nickle for every time our group has done this tune, Drifting wth the Tide at shopping malls, festivals and retirement centers. Seniors luv Bg.
these guys are absolutely my favorite band to watch... Don was the most Innovative banjo player to ever play traditional Bluegrass... WHO is the other guitar player in the back?
@@keeganbluegrass That is cousin Irving Sharp's picture on the wall. Sharp was the announcer and piano player. Im about 4 blocks from where this was recorded. The Tennessee Cutups played every morning Monday through Friday and it was called The Top Of The Morning Show.

Don Reno was an innovative Banjo player like few others.
Red could pound out those bass notes like nobody's business.
That D-45 is a CANNON! She rumbles.
In 1970 I was 13 years old & got to play that guitar for about an hour. Dad & Red had been friends since the mid 50s.
Don Reno looks like he's gonna fire a shot with that banjo!
An absolute classic with legends that will never be equaled. RIP DON & RED ❤️🙏
Now THAT is a banjo solo!
10 years! 10 damn years I've tried to find this performance!

Never did like that fiddler. He was with Porter for a while. Jumping around trying to get attention. Couldn't play worth a crap.
