  • Lavar Ball's Biggest Scam: What Happened to the JBA?
Remember when Lavar Ball announced this league? It was a big deal, right? I mean, the man is known for his bold moves, and this was no exception. He wanted to take on the status quo of college basketball and give young players a chance to showcase their skills without the restrictions of the NCAA.
From the moment the Junior Basketball Association (JBA) was formed, the reason behind its formation was as clear as crystal. It all started when LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball's trip to Lithuania didn't go as planned, and their father decided to create a league for young players like his sons.
In the summer of 2018, the JBA was making headlines as a pro league alternative to college basketball. They were holding their first-ever playoffs but what really had everyone talking was the drama surrounding Alan Foster, the Ball family's former business partner. He was dodging questions left and right from the league's unhappy players.

The JBA was Alan Foster's idea and he wanted to make it a business independent of the Ball boys, but Lavar did not want to invest any more money in paying players once his sons were done with the league. Lavar was focused on short money and this tanked the league.

Lavar Ball benefited no one but him and his sons! So to hear people talk about him like he revolutionized something is ridiculous.. He didn’t have the financial resources to challenge no shoe company or no other basketball league. If so both would haven’t failed after one year..He talked a good game to promote his sons and I get that since he had 2 to make it to the NBA and that was impressive! But outside of that Lavar did nothing…

Imagine having the clout and money to start YOUR OWN LEAGUE and be taken seriously and then just piss it all away because you're already rich and you never really cared enough to just do a good job. For example: If the stands are half empty at $40 then you should be able to fill them at $15. I would have made them $5 for kids under 12, so entire families can come out and watch the show for a fraction of what it would cost for a movie night.

Lavar meant well, but relying on Alan Foster left everything doomed from the start. I feel for the players, but researching the background of many of the players, most were marginal players at lower levels who weren’t very productive at the schools they played. Of course their were a few exceptions. But it was by far a league of low major D1 and lower level talent. I believe most of the players have a disdain for Foster and have no issue with Ball
