  • Do you remember when Julian Newman reached the Mount Rushmore of the basketball world at 11 years old and was being projected as the next big thing to make it to the NBA.
Well, it's been more than a decade and Julian Newman has yet to make it to an NBA roster.
Despite all the hype that surrounded him, he hasn't had the world of attention that he once had. It's as if he's almost been forgotten entirely.
But where did Julian Newman go wrong? Did he mess up in his personal life? Why did he not live up to the expectations and promises made about him? These are the things that come to mind when we think about why he's not as popular as he used to be.
Rest assured, I have the answer to that question and it is bound to surprise you. Stay until the end to see me roast the shit out of Julian Newman.

I saw bro play at a high school showcase his senior year. Hes actually good. The issue is his height, and the fact he never learned how to play with 4 other dudes on the court. Every time he got the ball he ducked his head and tried to play Hero ball.
He cannot move without the ball.
When his teammates had the ball he would spread out he’d follow them around so they’d have to pass it back to him.
He just never learned how to play with fundamentals.
    But. He’s got serious skills.

..So he's *not* actually good. You said yourself he never learned fundamentals. If someone doesn't even have fundamentals down, then by definition, they are not good. Basketball is a team sport; being able to dribble really fast doesn't mean you're a good player at the sport. His loss at IMG Academy was more than enough proof that he's actually terrible (look up the game on here). He can go do gymnastics or something

I mean he’s the perfect scapegoat on why fans are bellyaching and there’s no new phenom there to excite them again. And what I mean in terms of why, for one, how a basketball player on scholarship is in school like it has absolutely nothing to do with education. Isn’t that a good enough reason to have fans rolling their eyes? And Duke is becoming a joke as a reputable elite academic institution when they are basically wearing a sign that they don’t care about basketball recruits if when it comes to meeting their picky application acceptance standards. People will begin to lose faith in the prestige of how actually smart the rest of the student population is if they are taking in the sort that aren’t even on the level of a 4th grader. Ok, that’s not nice how it sounds, but it’s a swept under the rug oversight that people are just uncomfortable or not informed enough to be brave enough to talk about.

In 4th grade, my son began playing basketball. Despite being a terrible coach, one thing he said remains true today... Don’t worry about the kid beside you, just put in the effort and work hard. Regardless of the kid’s current skill level, things will change once everyone catches up. I share his perspective. When my son started playing high-level AAU, he showed promise and started occasionally. However, in high school, he excelled and became the top scorer for his school, a record that might still be unbroken today. They’ve been to district four times and come out on top twice.
At State, they came in second. The harmful effects outweigh the benefits when kids are labeled as phenoms. Among all the kids he played with and against, three of them reached the NBA, although they were simply playing basketball.
I wished LeBron took his own advise and let the kid just play.

  • @gxguy2906

I don't get it. When you are the father and you are nowhere in the basketball height yourself and you train your kid in basketball??? I know there are some short players in the NBA but if we are being realistic that odd is very low and almost impossible. Newman would done so well had he played another sport like soccer where skills are over physical size.

I mean playing against competition like that at 9, 10,11 even if I am put off by his shenanigans, that’s indisputable acclaim of his abilities already. What has me scratching my head is how guarding him was not a daunting task when he was an upperclassman. He only had that crossover to go to and the rest of his came from circumstance of the conditions. Then we saw how with what film we see him rather failing at bada$$ery like if he had hit a baseball home Run and just looked at what he just did as though he’s thinking “Yeah, goddam right I’m good”. But yeah it’s one thing to wish that but another to celebrate that way over some in game stat that was rather not impressive but still counted.

If you ever watched the mighty ducks franchise in the 90’s, in the first two movies the ducks were never the most talented team, but they gained notoriety and succeed through gimmicks. However in the third movie where they became teenagers, the gimmicky play that they were known for was no longer effective and they had to learn how to play real hockey.
Julian’s game never evolved past the gimmicky style of basketball ball that got him noticed when he was a kid and the nepotism created by his father made him uncoachable.

  • @albin123003
    @albin123003 3 дні тому

He was great at his size and stature. That's it. The thing was he stopped growing when others were experiencing growth spurts. Hence, his speed and physicality were capped out as other defenders are simply longer striders and longer defenders which is harder to be out-dribbled by Newman. Needless to say, pro-level players would outperform him at a better efficiency.
As for his deficiencies, they were not developed due to the fact that he played varsity at too young of an age. By constantly playing against older and bigger guys, he was not afforded the opportunity to learn how to play effective defense as he would always be out-muscled. Passing development would also be hindered as his defenders often towered above him, blocking his vision adding on the woes that Newman was not physically stronger and would have difficulty making long and strong passes. Finishing at the rim is also not feasible for the same reasons, hence not developing it too much. As such, he can only work on the only skillset that would keep him on the varsity court, which is speed and long range shooting.

Dyckman basketball game is a good example. Few years ago, a group of Chinese street baller played formal game there. One of the player who scored a lot enter the CBA but he is still struggling now. Therefore, no need to expect too much about Newman as he is not even as good as other Chinese street ballers.
Also, I agree one of the points in the video:dribble. He really dribbles for dribble. He dribbles with no purpose. You can see CP3, Curry, Irving or any guard, they play for fake, pass, crossover within the plan. But Newman really played for nothing.

All he know how to do is do dribble drills, which I'm sure his father thinks is the height of playmaking. His shot never changed even though its aparent the release is too low and too slow for someone of his size.

When you’re that small, you have to have extremely strong fundamentals to build on & high IQ. He never learned how properly shoot and he took low quality shots. Honestly I blame his dad, he sheltered Julian from any and all coaching influences that were not him, when he had the clout and resources to work with probably some of the best athletic trainers around, but his dad refused to let him learn from anyone else but him. Lastly, he does something a lot of ball handlers do that weren’t properly trained, and that’s dribbling while standing in place. If your body isn’t moving, all that dribbling is useless, this is why he had so much trouble creating space, he’d make a few dribble moves while completely still, then try take off after he’d done the move when your supposed to be moving while you make the move. It’s simple stuff to fix but his dad is a dumb dumb who doesn’t know basketball on a high enough level to be a trainer.

His dad failed him when he made him focus on basketball knowing he wouldn’t be tall. He’d be better off playing running back or playing baseball. He could’ve atleast gotten farther just off his work ethic

He wasn’t “trash” and he’d beat 99% of his critics 1v1. He, alongside millions of teenage hopefuls, wasn’t pro or scholarship material. Happens. Thankfully, he was born in an era where guys who weren’t pro material can still make a living playing basketball with the money guys make on social media.

      “He’d beat 99% of his critics 1v1” 🙄
      1. Basketball is a TEAM sport and this kid not only was terrible @ fundamental team ball, but was not good enough to dominate in a league with gifted athletes/teams that rank.
      2. Dude would not beat any actual ballers in (pick a hood), USA. He’s average at best when matched against the urban rank & file.

When you have talent but you’re short, have a terrible attitude, live like you’re entitled, and don’t improve your skills, you rarely, if ever, make it to the NBA.
