I don't hate Broly/Super Bardock, but I hold the original a bit higher purely because of Bardock's struggle to do what is basically the only "good" deed he had ever done in his life only to fail.
i dislike broly/super's depiction of the saiyan's entirely it makes them come off as better people then we have always been told they were bardock is what saiyans were told to be for literal decades, i much prefer like you said bardock trying his best to do something good for once and fail
Actually the Bardock that appears in DBS manga & the DBS Broly film is based upon Toriyama's little known manga prequel *Dragon Ball Minus: Departure of the Fated Child* which was made in conjunction with his Jaco the Galactic Patrolman manga which introduced that the Galactic Patrol featured in two of Toriyama's other works, exists within the Dragon Ball universe and introduced Jaco, the Galactic King, and Bulma's elder sister Tights all of whom later appear in DBS with part of that manga being adapted in DBS which shows a Kid Bulma flying in Jaco's Spaceship while Jaco & Tights watch on! Basically, Toriyama stated himself that the Bardock special was not the kind of story he would tell! The main problem with the DBS: Broly is it creates a plot hole for the manga as Bardock's confrontation was shown in two panels of the Frieza Saga when Frieza remembers the Saiyan he killed when he destroyed planet Vegeta looks like Goku which until the release of DB Minus was the only evidence that the Bardock TV movie special was canon though it omits the future sight stuff and we don't see the Supernova just Bardock being consumed by it! Bardock is clearly wearing his classic battle armor and bandana, but unfortunately, the DBS: Broly adapts the scene inaccurately as Dragon Ball Minus omitted showing the fate of Planet Vegeta! Bardock's wife, as well as his DBS teammates Taro & Leek, were added to DBS and the DBS Broly film's adaption of DB Minus due to their appearance in DB Minus as well as Frieza's scientific advisor Kikono who also makes his debut in animation in the DBS: Broly and Frieza even knows about Super Saiyan God legend in addition to SSJ legend which was added to reference Battle of Gods even though Beerus himself isn't mentioned despite Frieza ordering him to destroy planet Vegeta! Ultimately, the Bardock Special was never truly canon, just Bardock himself and the manner in which he died! DBS: Broly likely kept him in the same armor (which also originated from DB Minus and lacks the iconic bloodstained armband of Tora, which Bardock wears as a Bandana which is red in the full color DB manga)! Thankfully, Toriyama's protege Toyotarou is himself a DB fan boy who originally wrote a DBAF dojinshi (basically manga fan works which the manga industry mostly tolerates as a source for upcoming talent) and tends to remember obscure characters from Dragon Ball and related works such as Toriyama's DBZ self-parody Nekomajin! Toyotarou did an interpretation of what happened to the rest of Team Bardock from the TV Special! Tora is contacted by Leek via scouter transmission, who is on his way planet Vegeta with Bardock (Taro is already on Planet Vegeta and tells Bardock about Frieza Force asking around about the legendary SSJ) and tells him that Frieza has ordered all Saiyans back to planet Vegeta (Prince Vegeta would ignore it and that ends up saving him, Kid Raditz, Nappa, and two no named adult Saiyans who apparently perished before the Raditz Saga) and that Tora is late! Team Dodoria can be seen in the background of Toyotarou's interpretation of their fate, suggesting they met their end just like in the TV Special though minus the Future sight and events slightly altered to match DB Minus retcons to Bardock and Kakarot's origins! While Toyotarou's interpretations are dubious in how canon they are, his interpretation does fix the plot hole, by suggesting that Tora and the others are killed and thus the backstory od Tora's armband is potentially left intact while getting rid of the future sight stuff which is too narratively convenient! Bardock's characterization in DB Minus and DBS (film & manga) actually fits with Toriyama's opinion of Bardock's character as warlike but with a certain amount of humanity which DBS reveals is due to the love for his wife and children (DBS doesn't forget Raditz as you can see Kid Raditz in the background looking at some insects fighting alongside some other Saiyan children his age around the time of Kakarot's birth which fits with Raditz's thought balloon from the manga during the Raditz Saga showing a picture of Kakarot as a baby! Note the scenes with Kakarot and Grandpa Gohan in DBZ anime weren't adapted from the manga, they were added in as in the original manga there are no images that accompany Master Roshi's explanation of Goku's forgotten past or Raditz's telling of the Planet Vegeta's destruction)! Mind you he likely bonded more with Kakarot due to their strong resemblance and the fact Raditz, unlike his parents and brother, was born a mid-class Saiyan (only Elites were Vegeta and his dad, Broly technically was classified as one by the scientists but this was covered up by King Vegeta, so Saiyans like Nappa & Paragus were mid class) which is why he was invading a planet alongside adults and the Saiyan Prince! Raditz was likely considered a weakling by Vegeta and Nappa cause he comes from a low class family and was weaker than them! Ironically, Gine would tell Raditz, that Kakarot was sent to Earth while trying to pretend it was an official infiltration baby mission when in reality Bardock feared what Frieza was planning and decided to send Kakarot to Earth as Raditz was safe with the Prince & Nappa thanks to Vegeta's ignoring the Summons back to Planet Vegeta! This adds to the tragedy of Raditz's character as the cover story unfortunately led to his conflict with Goku during the Raditz Saga which might not have happened if he knew the risks Bardock & Gine took to ensure his survival! Dragon Ball Minus ties into Jaco the Galactic Patrolman cause Kakarot being sent to Earth causes the Galactic King (who had saved Earth from a meteor in the past thanks to the action of Jiya from the Galactic Patrol manga of the same name) to send Jaco to deal with the young Saiyan believing him to be a Saiyan infiltration baby sent by the Saiyan Army to invade! While Jaco is no match for an adult Saiyan, he is considered strong enough to defeat the child which leads him to Earth where he gets side tracked by his misadventures with Tights and Omori a old scientist who worked on developing a Time Machine only for an accident with the machine to cause the death of his wife and shut down of the project which had been commissioned by East City! Thankfully, the Time Machine can only stop time. Thus, he avoids arrest as only Time Machines that can alter history are considered illegal under Galactic Law! Jaco ends up saving Tights, who was acting as body double for a famous pop idol to go up in a rocket so the idol can pretend to go to outspace! When the rocket gets in trouble Omori & Jaco use the Time Machine to save Tights and the Astronaut with her! Later, the Tights' family visits Omori's island and Bulma fixes Jaco's ship! Jaco assumes the Saiyan was a no show as he missed his space God's landing cause Tights pushed him off a cliff (remember Jaco's Elite Barrage evasive skill from the Xenoverse series, well that move is based upon the fact his species urinates through ducts on their head and well Tights inadvertently gets hit by some in the manga and in a fit of rage similar to her sister, pushes him off a cliff when she realized she got PI$$ED on though it was an accident! The Jaco the Galactic Patrolman manga also shows Grandpa Gohan interacting with the pre-head injury Kakarot, who is squatting on the table visibly annoyed yet placated by the meat buns that Grandpa Gohan had provided, while Grandpa Gohan comments on the boy's strength (implying they had fought off panel and Gohan was the victor given Kakarot's attitude towards him)! While Kakarot is shown to be primitive and lacking table manners as he ignores a nearby chair and instead squats on the table to eat! Kakarot is shown wearing Saiyan Armor and is the same age he was in DB Minus, which pretty much renders the anime only flashbacks as non-canon to the manga! Unfortunately, DB Minus has only been adapted once, which was in DBS: Broly and it's version removes some elements presumably needing to be trimmed down to account for the transition between the Cold Force to the Frieza Force, Frieza's first encounter with King Vegeta and the Saiyans, the introduction of Scouters, Broly's birth and banishment leading to Paragus stranded on Vampa with his son!
Nah bruh you have no idea how true this statement is the new guys didn’t have the same struggles it made the classic story’s all the more interesting dbz trunks is the best example of this the new trunks and the idea of goku black is a little bit ridiculous when you put into perspective that turles is the original goku black
When trunks first popped up and he started having vision-like nightmares about the future I felt actual fear for a character and after watching the future of hope movie I understood why he had those nightmares the new dbs trunks story is just a rehash and redesign of classic characters goku black is cool and all but he’s literally a copy of a original story that was already done
But at the cost of turning him into a family Man Who wants his sons to “ Thrive “ Rather than the genocidal deadbeat Who only cared about his son when he realized he was going to avenge him that I and Most people prefer
@ejprice7609 ngl, I really loved this interpretation of Bardock. It was different but still engaging. Not really a fan of the current one especially when you look at it through the lense of Toriyama basically just made Goku into superman and when extra lore was given, he took that and changed it into more superman.
@@dangerousdays2052 he was a product of his culture. Goku would've been the same if he grew up on planet Vegeta. Even so he showed some good qualities.
I've fucking cried at the end of Bardock's Special. He was a man that only knew war and killing. A saiyan's life is a tragedy... Because they aren't about life. Only as he was dying was he able to glimpse something beyond the only world and universe he had ever known. And it was his very own son that would help bring about a huge change for the galaxy and everyone around him. Truly a tragic story of a man fighting until the very end. He broke free of his bondage, but everyone he knew died... but he died with a spark in his eyes.
I don't care what anybody says, this Bardock will always feel more canon, since he's definitely the guy that raised Raditz. The kind of Saiyan that doesn't care about their own family. Even Vegeta was just quiet when he learned of his father's death.
@dangerousdays2052 Does that make Raditz a caring brother? He forgot about Kakarot, suddenly remembered him, kidnapped his son to try and force him to kill 100 humans, tortured Kakarot during their fight, was gonna kill him, and only thought of him to help them fight Frieza
@@babyfaceaviator7862 That's just how sayian culture was. It wasn't really personal just how they thought. He was insulted that one of his people especially his own brother would betray sayian pride
That was said in the ocean dub where they tried to westernize dragonball. In doing so, they almost killed anime in America! (I don’t know who I would be) The dubbing company Ocean ended up loosing the rights to dub DBZ and Funimation had to pay a shit load(almost bankrupting them) to get the rights to dub DBZ and when they got it, they had Sonny Strait(Krillin), Sean Schemmel (Goku,Nail and King Kai) and, the voice actor of all American anime characters, the Legendary Super Voice Actor……….Christopher Sabat!!!!!!(literally look up the voice actors of anything done by Funimation and he’s doing like 12 characters) So now that we’ve established that DBZ was recorded in a rented out broom closet by 3 guys and some random women who worked in the building( not really, they worked for FUNimation) we can hopefully appreciate the fact that they were 10000000000% committed to just translating the Japanese to English and speaking it! This is why Goku isn’t the son of a scientist, Nappa and Vegeta just killed people(no “I’ll send you to another dimension BS”) and most importantly this is why the characters we love are who they are Long live Goku Ps, Happy Belated Birthday to Masako Nozawa
@@manjudhardey1998 But the superman reference would've made more sense to American audiences, which would be why Oceandub would have thought the line would age well. That line doesn't exist in the manga
@@manjudhardey1998 Ah yes' Tales of Bamboo cutter' which has an alien baby come from a doomed planet and raised by a farmer, clearly not a reference to krypton and superman
I.. disagree? Bardock was a TOTAL ass until gene aka gokus mom softened his heart and made him semi softer. Parallelling vegeta and bulma which is awesome in my opinon. Goku also wasnt kind until he hit his head after landing on earth. But hey u think what u wish. Gene and bardock to my knowledge were the only kind hearted sayians we know about
Stuff like this is why I still view the og special as cannon still. Yes minus and broly kind of retcon it but if one changes it so Bardock was already spacious of Frieza then it fits just fine
in the dbs manga, elec alluded to a 'meteor dropping on their heads' as bardock was had beaten gas but i feel like both the og special happened as well as his encounter with gas which would somewhat confirm his premonitions but idk if they invaded planet cereal before or after kanassa
I love Akira's design but I really like Katsuyoshi's design. Bardock still very much looks like Goku IMO, but is more distinguished as his own character.
bardock literally has two episodes and people forget that his bandana is not his it used to be a WHITE bandana belonging to his friend - it's soaked in blood
You've got to remember that even though Vegeta is an elite and a prince, that just put him closer to Frieza and his messed up machinations. He's probably learned that its best not to feel and that his only value is his status via power, by the time he learns his planet is gone. In the same vein Goku having no relation to Frieza means he's free of that legacy of being taught to be lesser. It really makes him Frieza's perfect enemy.
He didn't even mention that King Vegeta started a coup that failed. This contradicts the whole fanon about Beerus giving him permission, but it all happened on that day.
Yes. The Kanassans were fully aware of the impending destruction of their whole race by the Saiyans. They chose to fight against them in the hopes of changing fate. They were prepared for The invasion, which is why the mission was harder for bardock's team than anticipated, and it's the recent why the last survivor of the race decided to give bardock the gift / curse of clairvoyance, as one final act of payback.
I love Bardocks design, because unlike other goku clone designs, at a glance he is immediately distinguishable as Bardock, yet distinctly Goku-like. A sharper glare, the scar, the scouter - but still clearly related to Goku
Bardock was just always built differently, and that's why everyone liked him, but as the continuity keeps changing and retcons get made, its how people are starting to dislike the changes being made, because in the newer interpretations for Bardock they not only changed his iconic armor design, but they tried to make him a "nicer" saiyan which was just unnecessary.
@@andyplays9493 So I guess every other saiyan is loving towards their wife and want to actually spend time with them, and actually stealing a saiyan spacepod, and sending their child to a "weak planet", because of Frieza's possible saiyan annihilation plan, is also another thing other saiyans do. And I guess that other saiyans, also save people from other races, like Bardock did with Granolah and Monaito. I didn't realize that Bardock was a Universe 6 saiyan...
@@andyplays9493in a flashback in the Granola arc of the manga, he went out of his way to save a mother and her son, on the planet he and his fellow Saiyans were in the middle of conquering. If that's not making him a nice guy I don't know what is.
Another nice symbolism is how he loses his scouter during the confrontation with the elite soldiers, which makes him stick out that much more when he's trying to recruit his fellow saiyans.
No it didnt and the brutes your talking about were unorganized cavemen why would they still be brutes when they're technologically developed and being kept in line by a stronger force(frieza)Just say you have zero writting comprehension and move on no need to spread BS like this
Seeing this special as a child growing up in the 90s it was unlike anything I was seeing in dragon ball z at the time. Bardock became my favorite character of all time because of his contrast to Goku. I wish we got to see more story telling from that side of the house.
It’s always bothered me how super makes everything lamer, then making Bardock and his wife being kind in super takes all of the impact off of Goku being a kind person.
I agree! The way they made it seem in dragon ball z was that Goku was a lil demon child till he hit his head which lead to his change in personality. Super ruined it for no reason lol
@@andyplays9493 the point is that it also just doesn't fit with how saiyans were very often described, generally speaking saiyan parents just make child soldiers
@@Sbungo61 Saiyans were described as ruthless and evil which bardock is,he genocided 2 species(at least the two we know of) then went home to have dinner with his family if a serial killer in a movie did some shit like that he'd be considered completely deranged
I think a big part of the reason there are so many popular characters from this era is the art style, particularly anatomy. Characters get bulkier in the Cell saga but a lot of the designs from late Saiyan/early Frieza look like they're EXPLODING with muscle mass, Nappa and Recoome are literal giants, that one drawing of Piccolo's sacrifice, Kaio-Ken, and Bardock especially look like they are supernaturally strong, but not cartoony maximalism
Bardock's special is Dragon Ball at its peak. Imagine what we could have had if the people behind the special were responsible for Dragon Ball Super... But unfortunately Akira had other plans 0:54. I hope Dragon Ball can be rebooted one day and stories like Bardock's become more common.
1:51 proof dragonball can still go on without akira toriyama most people forget most people's favorite dbz characters are movie characters such as broly and bardock or gt transformations such as ssj4, all things that weren't created by akira toriyama.
@@darkshat3077 do you? nobody here was really in the offices of toei or akira toriyamas house to actually know that. but alot of the filler and sagas and such came from writers at toei.
The DBZ anime Bardock special and the Anime only King Vegeta flashbacks are leagues better than Toriyama's retcons of those characters that just copy pastes from Superman.
It's so weird when people in charge think they need to "remake" something that already worked. Just cuz it's not "canon" is weird when it's still good.
@lapplandkun9273 caring about your children is a huge difference, seems minor but a change like that to a member of the saiyan race, esp gokus dad makes Goku less special Ofc the main kind hearted saiyans dad is also a kind hearted saiyan, because fk being special, also his mom, don't get me started on gine
@@nora-yc6fiNo its not where is it ever stated saiyans dont care about their kids they might not be around much since theyre constantly on missions causing genocides but it doesnt mean they dont like their kids so your just bitching beacuse you have zero reading comprehension skills
For 8:38 the last one confirmed yes… sadly they DID already know they were going to be killed by the saiyans. He gave bardock the psychic powers so that he could see the same sad fate for his people.
Mastering Ozaru was the best part of GT, I strongly prefer GT to Super. Bardock being introduced in the Ozaru rage just goes to show how full circle GT was. Beerus saying he ordered Planet Vegeta and the Sayains destroyed takes away from Frieza's action.
What made Z Bardock so important is that he stabilized the series' constantly changing tone. By the Frieza Saga the series' tone and style had completely been reshaped from what it started out as; shifting from adventure comedy to a full blown space opera with some pretty serious stakes. As such, going back to before any of the series' established timeline had occurred, and introducing a story more unapologetically dark and intense than anything the series had introduced thus far gave the franchise's new tone more of a foundation. It took the conflict the series had had just recently introduced itself to, and organically worked it into being a core part of the franchise's narrative.
I like Bardock because he represents the tone I wish the series was at far more consistently. When he's on screen it was about combat. Brutal, bloody combat. There's no honor, there's no friendly competition. It was kill or be killed. Unless we're talking the later iterations of the character that paint him more of a good guy. I don't like that version. I'm talking Episode of Bardock were he's definitely not a good guy. He's got the blood of thousands on his hands. Maybe more. And he enjoys his job. But he also cares about his comrades.
19:50 It always reminds me of that animation, idk if it was part of xenoverse or not, where bardock stands between frieza and goku. Then between Super Saiyan goku and final form frieza. Then between Goku super saiyan Blue and GOLDEN frieza
What i truly love about this special is the almost Biblical element to it. Bardock as an evildoer recieves a gift to see the certain end of his race, naturally he WANTS to survive and even change the future, but he *can't* It was written that he was MEANT to die, so that one day his own child avenges not only him but the saiyan race, not being raised as a saiyan, but a human, and his child, a seemingly pathetic weak saiyan whit nothing to show, ends up becoming the LEGENDARY Super saiyan. Its something that Super Bardock completely lacks, its a more basic story. Even tho i know the writters didn't intend for this to be the message, i love how perfect it fits.
Bardock is basically if Guts from Berserk existed in DB verse with Saiyan powers A warrior who knows only battle Is betrayed by the person he worked for Loses all of his friends/comrades Tries to defy fate
What I always found interesting about Bardock’s design is that he doesn’t look like Goku to me. I mean, of course he doesn’t look but his demeanor is so different that he feels completely different
Original Bardock was so unique as a protagonist. He's a terrible person but his "redemption" is just how he wants to stop Frieza - which also benefits him. He only likes Goku when he sees he will avenge him.
The movie is my favorite one, yet kinda sad. Even though the saiyan’s were not any more innocent than other villains within DBZ Bardock towards the end of his last moments redeemed himself and was able to see the truth. Worst part is that he stood no chance against frieza but that music right before frieza’s ultimate is launched to planet Vegeta just gives me a rush.
I really don't think the average Saiyan really thought too deeply about the deal with Frieza. Just like the average American doesn't think too deeply about our relations with other world leaders. That's above our pay grade. It's not that we keep our heads down and try to ignore the situations of world politics. We're blissfully unaware of them. We have our own lives to live. Immediate concerns to worry about to make ends meet. And like you said, the Saiyans are arrogant, so probably never even considered the possibility that Frieza would see them as expendable. Can you imagine if someone ran down the street yelling about how China is about to invade the US? We put so much faith in our militaristic might and geographical defenses that we honestly believe that we are impervious to all assault. We'd laugh just like the Saiyans did.
Bardock remains my lets say "hero" he has kept motivating me over the years im a grown man now a days but whenever i wanted to give up he reminded me that he didnt even tho he knew he was going to die he pushed trough thousands of soldiers and he fought against fate no matter what came next
OG Bardock is the only canon in my mind, it’s aligned with everything we were told about the Saiyans and it fits with the original story. People need to stop retconning stories.
What i like about OG Bardock is, he never changes as a person. His job is to murder people, and he loves to do it. He’s the typical savage saiyan. The only thing that made him rebel against Freeza is because the target is now the saiyans who are too good at their job. And what made him proud of Kakarot is because of Bardock future vision that his son will avenge him and his people. Bardock story is a greek tragedy caused by the error of his flaw as a character. He was born and raised to battle and conquer. That’s why his plan is to convince his people to start a rebellion and not to run away for survival of his race. He could have change his own fate, but he didn’t because he did not change himself as a person.
this Bardock is legendary, he’s grounded and gritty and his squad members are also awesome. He is a no nonsense guy who lived his life one mission at a time, numb to murder, until he was given foresight and took on a role of protector in his final hour. Super’s Bardock seems like a little wuss and I hate how they tried to paint him as a kind guy. Sometimes the brightest of lights (Goku) emerge from the darkest of places (Bardock).
I was at the Jersey Shore back in the 90's when I came across a kickass poster of Bardock and Goku. It was a blacklight poster, and I had it hanging on my bedroom wall for years. I just recently found it again, and by god it's so awesome. DBZ Bardock is my favorite Dragon Ball character, and I'm glad that people love him as much as me :D
So, as a kid, I just saw dbz from the saiyan saga, the bardock movie, the frieza saga, all other movies and then finished everything. As much as I knew, bardock had a chance until y'know what. That makes the movie and the Frieza saga 100% better for me. I saw Goku grow, discover that he is a Saiyan, get to see how his father gave everything to save his planet and then the suffering of Vegeta and Bardock's hope. Dude Frieza saga was goated.
An important detail that you missed is that Bardock even has visions of Goku fighting Vegeta, the strongest Saiyan. Beyond knowing that Goku was going to face Freeza, I think he knows his son was going to become the Legendary Super Saiyan. Its so heartbreaking and sweet at the same time.
Let’s be real the Bardock special is 100% canon and the definitive depiction of Goku’s origins and the downfall of the Saiyans. I don’t care what anybody says nor do I care for the garbage DBS has been feeding the fan base. DB Minus has a slew of inconsistencies and plot holes that are too apparent to ignore. It quite literally puts in the question the information and story we were given throughout the entire series. Even the DBZ movies were more consistent than this. I will never understand why anybody wants to defend this garbage. Yes Toriyama made it and he has right to do whatever he wants because he is the creator. But just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. FU DB MINUS.
Yup and now you can’t criticize toriyama without dbtards hurling insults towards you. I’ve loved db since I was a kid but can say that toriyama as flawed as a writer. This bardock is cannon.
It's neat to see this. I haven't watched the special in a while. I do have to note, now that I think about it, what's keeping Goku or Vegeta from wishing their families back?
@@Don-fw3nv Eh. Bardock and King Vegeta wouldn't qualify as a large group of people though? And who knows how the rules changed when Dende took over...

I think that vegeta knew it was gonna happen as the king did too so he sent vegeta away

Mastering Ozaru was the best part of GT, I strongly prefer GT to Super. Bardock being introduced in the Ozaru rage just goes to show how full circle GT was. Beerus saying he ordered Planet Vegeta and the Sayains destroyed takes away from Frieza's action.
Beerus takes away from a lot in Super. A good character but bad concept.
This is what peak writing is🔥🔥
Amazing analysis and well put together.

Bardock is and will always be my favorite character. I prefer this version of Bardock compared to Supers rework
I never put to much attention to this thanks tbh I just love bardocks emotional story ark
The thing I liked about his story it was a real sci-fi story still with a Twilight zone gift.

What i truly love about this special is the almost Biblical element to it.
Bardock as an evildoer recieves a gift to see the certain end of his race, naturally he WANTS to survive and even change the future, but he *can't*
It was written that he was MEANT to die, so that one day his own child avenges not only him but the saiyan race, not being raised as a saiyan, but a human, and his child, a seemingly pathetic weak saiyan whit nothing to show, ends up becoming the LEGENDARY Super saiyan.
Its something that Super Bardock completely lacks, its a more basic story.
Even tho i know the writters didn't intend for this to be the message, i love how perfect it fits.
Great video but I feel Future Gohan takes most tragic character
Bardock is basically if Guts from Berserk existed in DB verse with Saiyan powers
A warrior who knows only battle
Is betrayed by the person he worked for
Loses all of his friends/comrades
Tries to defy fate
If you think about it, headcanon wise, him facing frieza alone indirectly gave Goku enough time to get away

What I always found interesting about Bardock’s design is that he doesn’t look like Goku to me. I mean, of course he doesn’t look but his demeanor is so different that he feels completely different
Bardocks ruthless fighting style is chef's kiss.❤
Also he looks better in the OG version. The sleeveless armor plus he was more buff since the artists drew them differently back then.
OG bardock is legendary. Will never be topped
Bardock and history of trunks are in my top 5 even tho they're specials

This and the Tree of Might are my favorite two DBZ movies.
Bardock is a lot like Macbeth, who also heard a prophecy that he would die, and in trying to prevent it, he ends up making it happen!
Based
Yup and now you can’t criticize toriyama without dbtards hurling insults towards you. I’ve loved db since I was a kid but can say that toriyama as flawed as a writer. This bardock is cannon.
Cry about it, minus is canon, the movies aren't
Sorry but it’s still a head canon
technicaly bardock orginal looks its canon. i also like his backstory in granolah arc.
db minus is not part of dbs.
This, History of Trunks and the most recent Broly movie are hands down the best DBZ movies
Your thumbnail gave me the wrong impression for someone singing it's praises 😂
12:10 dude really tried to say that bardock wasn’t absolutely fking crushed in this scene. He’s shocked and heartbroken. He’s a warrior.

Let's keep in mind there's a difference between wiping out a populace while keeping the planet viable vs flat out destroying the planet
The Bardock movie was such a great tie in to the awesome Frieza saga.
It's neat to see this. I haven't watched the special in a while. I do have to note, now that I think about it, what's keeping Goku or Vegeta from wishing their families back?
In the manga, they said you can't wish back a large group of people after one year has passed
@@Don-fw3nv Eh. Bardock and King Vegeta wouldn't qualify as a large group of people though? And who knows how the rules changed when Dende took over...
@@mr.m1785 Well for one then, Neither Goku or Vegeta actually care that much about their parents. Vegeta made this clear in the Namek saga
