  • Identifies self by name. Identifies resident by name.
    Washes hands.
    Explains procedure to resident, speaking clearly, slowly, and directly. Maintains face-to-face contact whenever possible.
    Provides privacy.
    If resident is in bed, adjusts bed to safe level and locks bed wheels.
    Fills basin halfway with warm water. Tests water temperature (105°F - 115°F). Has resident test water temperature and adjusts if necessary.
    Places basin at comfortable position. Puts on gloves.
    Completely submerges feet in water and soaks feet for 10 to 20 minutes, adding warm water as necessary.
    Puts soap on washcloth. Removes one foot from water. Washes entire foot, including between the toes and around nail beds.
    Rinses and dries entire foot, including between the toes.
    Repeats steps for other foot.
    Applies lotion except for between the toes.
    Empties, rinses, and dries basin. Places basin in designated area or returns to storage. Places soiled clothing and linens in proper containers.
    Removes and discards gloves and washes hands.
    Returns bed to lowest position.
    Places call light within resident’s reach.
    Washes hands.
    Documents procedure.
