  • Greg grew up as a gay atheist in DC area and converted to Christianity at UVA in 1990. He has a PhD in historical theology and serves as the lead pastor of Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCA) in St. Louis. He’s also the author of the forthcoming book, Still Time to Care: What We Can Learn from the Church Failed Attempt to Cure Homosexuality (Zondervan, Sept 2021).
Greg is 49 years old and has never touched another human in a romantic way, and yet he has been brought up on charges for being unfit to be a pastor for issues related to sexualtiy by some people in his Presbyterian denomination. This conversation will be difficult to comprehend for some of you, but it’s important to understand how some fundamentalist Christians think. We also talk about the history of evangelical approaches to homosexuality and the role that the Ex-gay movement has played in this trajectory. Oh, and we also bring up C.S. Lewis’ struggle with Sadomasochism (think: 50 Shades of Grey). Anyway, lots of interesting stuff in this episode!

I’m a Christian and a gay man whose on the affirming side. This grieves my heart. The way this man has been treated by other Christians, despite him following what they say is truth. So sad.

Jesus makes you a new creation in Christ Jesus you are born again with the Holy Spirit dwelling in you, you don't continue living in sin, you repent but you don't live a life of sin when you are born again.

C S Lewis - the sadist! He is so idolised in certain parts of the Christian community - thank you for reminding us all that he was human and struggled as we all do. Really appreciated the references to Schaeffer and Stott's sensible and kind words - lots to emulate and apply. Thanks as always for these great and thoughtful conversations =)

The shaking hands thing.... is Jesus said if you even look at someone with lust in your heart you have committed the sin. you are saying you are susceptible if you shake someone's hand to comforting a sexual sin and that's okay ...lust is okay?

Thank you so much for a healthy example and view of what a same-sex attracted AND Jesus-loving person can look like.

Greg Johnson has been given free rein to criticise former LGBT people who testify to 'change' as they define it. He writes experientially and some would argue, misuses his sources. Will you now give air to those who have looked at the issue scientifically? There are many articulate researchers to back up a different viewpoint. Would you facilitate a debate at some point?

Christ blood cleanses us from all sin. We are to put off the old man and put on the new.
So yes, we can be cured of any sin. Not saying it’s easy at times.
    Isn’t that every Christian’s testimony?
Johnson is making a straw man argument with the conversion therapy.
    Stick to biblical truth

Preston, I’ve read your book and I really enjoyed it and agreed with what you said (most of it), so much so I can only think of one thing I didn’t agree with.
You seem comfortable calling people “Gay Christians”. What would you say to someone like Jackie Hill Perry who would disagree, saying you can’t be a “blaspheming Christian”, so how can you be a gay Christian?

I don't think it's true what he said about Reparative therapists not being around anymore. I am Catholic and I don't really share Johnson's protestant worldview, but a worthwhile listen. Thanks !

Is that a PCA pastor, or Morrissey? Why the affectation? Abandon that affectation and lifestyle, rather than encouraging everyone to cling to it.

And who says heterosexual lifestyle is good? It's the most rotten and corrupted and root of all evil.

" becoming straight" is not God's goal. It's redemption, being transformed of earthly conditions, is a bi-product of being in God's presence
