Mr Dog Poop requires beer in every video, it started last year when we started making our comedy videos www.youtube.com/@mrdogpoopunleashed/videos and has been a rule ever since. Glad you liked it.
you can use any pipe from 1.25" OD to almost 2" OD. Speed rail is usually 1.25 or 1.5 aluminum schedule 40 pipe. You can get it at most metal supply places like Metal Supermarkets or you can use electrical conduit from Home Depot, Lowes or any electrical supply house. Pretty much any pipe will work as long as it is smooth.
I think the plate was 12 inches by 12 inches. There is no such thing as speed rail. Speed rail is just schedule 40 aluminum pipe. You could certainly get pipe with ID OD that are different than schedule 40, but we are using schedule 40 1.25 and 1.50. I did order 1.25 schedule 40 pipe and they sent me 1.25 OD pipe which is not the speedrail size, so I sent it back. So, yes, you can get pipe with different ID and OD with different properties. But the standard is 1.25 schedule 40 which is actually 1.66" OD and 1.38" ID. It is confusing, but that is the size of speed rail.
Glide Gear has some great products you can check out some deals on a video we did about those: ua-cam.com/video/_pHIVpy0Vrg/v-deo.html The only product we hate is their wheels and anything that uses their wheels. They are so bad they are completely useless. They need to get some new wheels, they are junk. We did an entire video about them. But they sell some of the same products as other companies and some of them are very useful and inexpensive.
None. This is just a cheap way to make a Dana Dolly, the Dana Dolly is definitely superior. But it is also more than $200 or $350 with track. So far we have not seen any cheaper Dana Dolly copies that have been any good, so this is just an easy way to make one and get good results. Of course when you build it, you can make any changes you want, size, weight, track width or any improvements you may need. But if you have the money, buy a Dana Dolly for sure.
@@mrdogpoopstudiosthat's what I'm trying to find out - in which way is Dana Dolly superior? Is it overall smoothness? Or are there features absent in your dolly that are present in Dana?
@@dennypilot9856 First, let me say we have only been making videos for just over a year now, before that, we were a DNA testing lab, so this is all new to us. So, I have never used an actual DANA dolly and cannot make any use comparisons. But I have done quite a bit of research on the construction and the Dana Dolly is well done. Also, we used a simple 3/8 bolt to connect to, the DANA dolly has all types of adapters available. But it you added something like the Mitchell mount, you could adapt a DIY dolly to anything as well with readily available adapters from anyone, rather than having to buy from Dana Dolly. Dana Dolly also machines the wheels, so I am sure it is slick as shit and very smooth rolling. The tracks are exactly the same, the holders we made are basically identical, so doing that saves money. If you are working in the film industry on paid jobs, you probably want the Dana Dolly, just because people know it and expect it and some people are pretty snobby about home made stuff or cheaper brands. But essentially, they are both just skateboards on rails. I don't see spending $1000 on a skateboard when you can get the same thing for $200.
Just found your channel and its amazing! You look like my dad, making everything yourself while holding a beer. Thanks for that!

Pipe dimension please and from what online store ? Amazon ?

A few questions:
What are the dimensions of your aluminum plate?
Are the rails aluminum speed rails or just basic aluminum rails?
I think the plate was 12 inches by 12 inches. There is no such thing as speed rail. Speed rail is just schedule 40 aluminum pipe. You could certainly get pipe with ID OD that are different than schedule 40, but we are using schedule 40 1.25 and 1.50.

@@mrdogpoopstudios how thick is the plate?
We use 1/2" but most are 3/8" or less. I personally think 1/4" is a bit light, but would probably work fine for a small camera.
Are glide gear products not good?

What are the advantages of the original Dana Dolly over this solution?
