I had two. A 70 six cylinder automatic and a 71 Grabber 302 stick shift. Loved them both. Wish I still had one.

I have owned several Mavericks. My favorite was a '70. It had a 200/3spd, floor shift. Hillary Blue, with the Grabber pckg. I bought a 73 Comet, and turned the 70 into a 302/C4 car, and transferred the 5lug parts to it.

My wife’s first car was a 302 manual. She still talks about it with great enthusiasm. As for me, I’m just going to say it: the Maverick was what the Mustang 2 should’ve been.

My first car was a new Ford Maverick in 1972. It had the slow 250 straight 6 cylinder engine. Candy Apple Red with exterior decor group and interior decor group upgrades made for a nicely equipped car with A/C and 3 speed Ford Crusomatic AT. My third new car was a 1976 Maverick in bright yellow and black cloth interior. Same engine, same options as the 1972 Maverick, my first car though the 1976 Maverick had the large 5 mph bumpers.. My family briefly onwned a new 1974 4 door Maerick in mettalic blue and a used 1970 2 door base Maverick with the very slow 170 straight 6. This car was similiar to the introductory Maverick advertised slightly under $2,000. This car had no options or accessories. The first owner had driven this car four years but it was still solid and ran well. My dad aquired this car through a car trade but never drove it much. It was just an extra car my family had for a few months. As for the new 1974 4- door Maverick the car was traded up for a new larger Galaxie 500 in early 1974. It is my opinion that the economy idea on smaller 6 cylinder cars was a false selling point back in the 1970s. A new full size Galaxie 500 with a 351 Windsor V8 powering a 4,000 pound car could get 18 MPG on the highway at 60 MPH back in 1974 while a 2800 pound Maverick with the 250 straight 6 could only manage to get 20 MPG on the highway when the car was new. The fuel consumption on the six cylinder Mavericks increased as the single barrell carburator on those engines got some miles on them. The 302 V8 engine in your new Maverick would have been the best option for performance and economy. A V8 equipped Maverick would give performance and style just about equal to a Mustang. The Ford Maverick will always have a special place in my heart. I even have a Hot Wheels edition Maverick Grabber in candy apple red.

Wow, what a fantastic journey with the Ford Maverick! It's great to hear about your experiences with various models and the memories attached to each. The comparison you made between the Mavericks and the Galaxie 500 is really interesting. Do you have any memorable stories or adventures with your Mavericks that stand out? And that Hot Wheels Maverick Grabber sounds like a real gem!
