Man your a brother and a good one. You don't know how much I needed to listen to your advice. It humbled me and thank you for sharing it. I hope you read this and know how you helped someone's life today.
Putting a new roof on my shed. Watched a lot of roofer videos. One thing I found out. Everybody does something different. So what do I do? I pick the guy with the best presentation. You're a good speaker, you stick to the facts, you don't have an attitude, and you don't tell me a bunch of stuff I don't need to know. You're above average. Thanks
great comment
Embrace the ‘average’. Great demonstration. Stay Average my friend >>>
This is the first video of yours on my feed in a week.
Thank you for the detailed demonstration and explanation of how to install roof vents!
Shouldn't you make a whole in the plywood then install the vent?
WOW. You made that stupid easy. Thanks for this video!
Next time show us how to cut the roof too? :)
Newbie here. Was expecting an example of cutting a hole through the roof decking before installing the vent🤔
People who share their knowledge are awesome
You videos are great just check sound.
You rock Dilly Wacker.
Good video
Thanks for the info
Damn dilly almost at 6k? That's dope. keep workin man I had less than 2,000 subs this time last year. N you're welcome for the video idea lmao
Zack of All Trades I had this video idea for a bit. But realistically just saw you did it and had to get it out there. Thanks brother.
Im bored was just poking fun. good video man
Zack of All Trades thank you. I liked your video as well. I don’t get mad online 😂😂
@@Average_Roofer lol!
How is that vent snug fit into the duct? I mean you placed it flush on the roof, but where is the connection between the duct and that vent? Do you have go go to the attic to do that?
You should have shown cutting the hole because I know some novice ppl will forget that
BTW quad lasts about as long as a roof i believe. Siders use it on LP n I can only imagine it last 20+ years. I couldn't find anything about the exact lifetime of it though I just tried to search. Someone on my video suggested neoprene nails.
Thank you so much I'm going to do my roofing courses next year and apply for my apprenticeship. I'm just studying and teaching myself through your videos and other online sources. I work with roofs as a gutter cleaner, window detailer, work is slow now because of winter. There not much work so I'm spending my time learning new skills!! =D Your videos are clean, simple, and detailed!
If you’re in the United States I recommend checking out Upstryve at upstryve.com for your courses, tutors and exam prep.
It's hard work but it's a valuable skill that pays well. I did the same in my younger days boss did sliding & roofing I lean towards brake operator's lax roofing. On the first day on the job when through 7 rolls of coil trying to learn. Surprise I did get fired! I lasted about 3 years very grateful to learn how to be a DYI!
@@Average_Roofer what about from ontario
Make some videos of what you know
I shopped at my big box store looking at roof vents. I think a video on vents and vent options would be good information to have. I have a roof vent fan with a burned out fan motor and lots of hail damage on the aluminum top. I'm going to want to replace that vent and install more ventilation in my roof without creating too many holes in my roof. Back in August I found a roof leak. Turns out it was a bullet hole right over my bathroom from last July stupidity of my neighbors. I caulked everything and it's holding for now but my roof has been damaged also from falling branches from my next door neighbor's roof. I think I'm going to have to hire a lawyer for that. My roof has an Eastern side and a Western side with hip roofs on the East and West. We have prevailing West and SW winds much of the year.
You need to put ice and water to prevent water going in,u could just remove 3 shingles and do it right,
Install your vents before hand is much easier
This is very true. For this demonstration we did it this way for two reasons. One so they can see how to install them, and how to add them when the roofing product already exists. 👌🏼
Thanks so much for posting this video! Just installed 4 roof vents on my garage roof and your video was exactly what I needed.
By replace it if damage do you mean blackjack?
Thankyou so much for this!!! I've converted the unvented electric stove in my kitchen to a roof vented gas range. I appreciate the easy going, yet straightforward pacing of your instruction, and all the essential tips. From tools to hardware, all the details... simple enough for even an "average " DYIer likè me! You're everything I ❤️ about UA-cam.
The Pro 50s have small dash lines now where the vent should sit on the hole for proper ventilation. An easy template for the vent cut is to use a shingle. The height of the shingle is the same width as the exterior vent cover.
This guy should get a shingle tattoo on his forehead😂
What is a roof vent? 😅😅😅😅 nobody needs this in Europa!!!!
In North America we vent our roofs to prevent moisture and rotting of the roof decking.
In Europe I believe you use tiles on spaced strapping which wouldn’t require ventilation. (Don’t quote me on this as I am ignorant on European roofs)
This has became one of my favorite channels man. Keep the content coming.
Ian Lemaster thanks for watching. Every subscriber and view counts! 👍🏼 I appreciate all my viewers
2nd best.... big time is #1
You clearly have no idea
Why dont u caulk under the vent
Good install, you should mention for the newcomers, never install the vent before the hole is made. If you're gonna make the hole, make sure your not over a rafter. I once cut a hole thru plywood that had shingles under it and set the attic on fire.
Damn, what kinda bit were u using?
Caulk? Why not tar?
I don't care what BDR says, you do a great job.. Average tiiiiime!
Chad Barrett atta boy! Someone gets it!! 👍🏼👍🏼
For the upper box vent, how do you make sure you are between rafters?
Drill a hole from the attic up, then put a stick through the hole so you can find it on the roof. Same goes for through your ceiling up into the attic.
I wish when you post a video that you would name the parts used and where to get the part.
Thank you but what about the hole? You didn’t show how you to about cutting that
I apologize for that. Cut your hole approximately 8”x8”. New videos coming soon with updated practices.
@@Average_Roofer right on man, thanks for the quick reply and great videos
I like the I am Canadian shirt. I have one that says my Wyoming has an east infection!
well soon you'll be getting California-cancer too, it's spreading everywhere, sorry about that
Don't you need to know where your rafters are first before marking and removing shingles? Won't be good to cut someone's rafters weakening the roof. I know that may be an "implied" step, but should've been mentioned.
Thank you brother for pointing out gramadine self sealing roof screws 🙂
Do you cut a whole in the wood or no
Of course, the video explains that one isn't cut because it was for demonstration purposes.
How do you cut the roof plywood for the vents?
Shit you better go take some notes from BDR
Good tip about the steel roofing screws. Hadn't seen that before and nobody does that around here but it's a better way.
Hope your doing good brotha
Thank you very much for breaking it down so simply, I really appreciate the time you took
What are gromited screws and why didn't you install them?
You set the vent too high.
gaf is awesome
They do have beautiful products!
Thans good class
Thanks for the knowledge man. How do you calculate the number of vents you need on a roof?
Your ratio of roof vents to soffit venting needs to be where the soffit is greater than the roof venting. But generally you want one every 15 feet only on the backside of the roof. Unless you have ridge vents then you dont really need any extra venting.. you want to make it where the airflow will enter through the soffit and exit through the top venting, if the ratio is off then the moist air gets trapped inside and doesnt circulate.. theres a website that has the specifics but i forget exactly ...
1 square foot of ventilation for every 300 square feet of attic space.
I had a hole in my roof. So i added a vent instead of simply fixing the hole. 😂
You keep making videos like this you won’t be average anymore bud, great video, clear instructions, 10/10 would bang 😂
Stay average 🤘
Jason W 10/10 would bang 😂😂
Thanks for this! Was exactly what I was looking to learn how to
I really appreciate your time making this. Im about to put 2 roof vents in our florida room, as it gets way too hot even with ac going. Thank you again
Hey great! Another incomplete video of how to put in a vent ... Aren't you supposed to cut a hole.. instead of just putting the vent over plywood?.. And show us how easy it is to put those screws in the side ..
Different friggn breed of people.. don't get how people can work day in day out up on a place with 0 shade and temperatures up in the 130's with the shingle heat radiating so cant put a knee or hand down for long.. my ass about die every time i gotta roof.. crazy..
Thanks for your videos it did help me a lot
Still don't get why the hatchet hammer. I use one, but only on a cedar shake roof. Does bdr cut the plywood 1/8 too big? I sharpen the shaft of my estwing for slight plywood modification.
Ripping nails under walls, easier for repairs when breaking tar strips on shingles etc. Lots of reasons to use a hatchet
Thanks, next time I tear off against a wall, I will try a hatchet on the step flashing.
fender bender works great. Used it today actually. Counter flashing was 5 inches wide and the homeowners didn’t wanna replace it. Hatchet worked perfect for pulling nails
I know this might be a stupid question, but I am asking anyway. If that is a vent, why are you cutting a hole in the roof? Texas girl in Texas.
hey man, why not just use a saw to cut a hole? no hate im just curious as im about to install some vents on my house. also why do you remove the old nails? are they in the way of your new seal or where your new fasteners are going? oh and one more thing, why now mastic sealant?
If you use the saw to cut the shingles a. It will wreck your blade, b. The hole will be too big and as for the mastic sealant, the durable pro 50s manufacturer specs do not require it.
@@Average_Roofer thanks for the response.
Nevermind you don't have to cover the front flap. Sorry.
Am learning . How to put swamp coolers in.
Trying to figure out how to put the shingles around the base.
Great video, you make it look so easy and quick. Thank you again.
Why dont you use caulk
Not necessarily unless local codes requires it. For a state like Florida it is required.
@@Average_Roofer doesnt Canada
Good tutos for an existing roof. Now, if i am installing new shingles. Is it easier, better to plan ahead for these or i should just install the whole thing and then only after making my cuts the way you are teaching here.
Thanks.
Up here in Canada, you would be making snowmen in your attic at Christmas time and a good wind will put your vent on your neighbor's roof.
Average roofer, not so average intro, I thought I was watching a Michael Bay film for a moment there 😂
For a new roof, should the vents be installed before the shingles?
You could install it as you install the new roof... Like when you get to that section...
That little shed don’t need no vents
Thank you your video was the best explanation compared to others. I did our 2" roof vent pipe boot still need a refresher. I like your positive message " I don't have to be the best but, the average"
Nice work young man! However you should have mentioned the roof rafters.... you don't want to cut a hole over top of them.
I see many houses wot two rows of vents, one close to the ridge and one close to the bottom, is that a good idea and what’s the point? Thanks
Gas quality?! Lethal.
First time I’ve heard that, fuck.🤘🏽
Thanks Dylan! You are a great instructor, appreciate you sharing your knowledge
Or you can count the exposer of the shingle . Dilly whacker
I wish you would have use some calk so we could see. That seems to be the hard part
What is the name of first vent showing in this video?
Duraflo 60PRO50BL Pro 50 Roof Vent
Wouldn't the exposed nail heads allow water to seep through and down under the shingles?
Thank you so much I made the job go by so fast I appreciate it have a great day
How do you know if you’re over a rafter?
Pound on a roof with your hammer, you can tell by the sound
I don’t see u being average and so nicely explained u r top line thank u for posting
I been doing roofing for 28 years and I never install air vents that way but every roofer has there way as long it doesn’t leak and it looks good all that matters. And what counts is that you don’t get a call back roofing in the northwest since 1995
Why didn’t he at least cut a few holes in the plywood for hot air to release ???!
Thank god some canadians came to explain zack made sound way to complicated
Elver Galarga Zach did a great video. I like to try to make it easier for homeowners to understand though.
Yea he did i like watching his shit too
Wow, thought you cut a hole in the Roof for hot air to escape, guess Not
This is just a sample roof. Obviously not good practice to leave the decking under your vent 😂
How do you nail the flange without damaging shingles?
Great video brother. But I have to ask one question.
Are you Canadian?
Yes I am. I am from Ontario
@@Average_Roofer that's awesome. Does your company do work in Ontario?
@@timeapenno they do work over in Alaska
@@redsresearchlol...that's a long way from Ontario
Does it make a difference what side of roof vent goes on? Also how many do you install and how far apart?
What is the difference between shingles and roll outs ?
Definitely not average, you’re a pro!
How do you put the shingles over the front of the vent lip
GAF FTW
Wait you didn't cut the sheathing. How does it vent with you out cutting the sheathing???
It’s for demonstration 🤦🏻♂️
Very good thank you brother,🤔👍
Thanks for the video Bud.
bro what hammer is that i gotta get my hands on one of those
Holeh fuck bud. Made that look hard
Thanks for the very well made video.
First view whooooo big tiiimmmeee
This is AVERAGE TIIMMEEE!!!! BUD.
@@MattyWill1 ain't nothing wrong with that lol
@@ElverGalarga-xe4ss No it's not. "Its ok to be average". ✌✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thank you A great very helpful video !!!
Exactly the way to do it. Great work buddy.
Really good video! Thank you
