I love building my own, there's a sense of accomplishment and you get educated on how the parts work and it just makes understanding the firearm to its fullest.
@bfratt123 on a federal level, it is not required to be serialized or registered. Massachusetts law requires it though. There is an online portal for registration and there are a lot of shops (in my area at least) thay will lazer engrave the number for you. Idk how you go about getting a serial number though. Haven't built one myself yet
The idiocy that is MA gun laws. It's safer for a person to build their own, untested firearm than it is to purchase a fully tested and functional firearm from an FFL. Because, the manufacturer doesn't want to pay the MA tax that is the testing and 'safety' compliance that MA requires. All firearms are test fired from the factory but MA believes it's safer for a person to build their own and test it themselves, maybe at a public range.

Most gun laws in freedom-challenged states come from tyrants trying to make it difficult for the working class to exercise their second amendment rights not to for laws to make sense. For example you can own AR without hassle if you drop a $1.5-3kfor a pre-ban where in free states an AR lower ranges from $40-$300. That being said people making their own guns isn't quite what it sounds like. If you use stock internals it's generally pretty safe. In fact it's probably more likely and dangerous to have an issue with an overcharged self reloaded round than a firearm made at home.
Why new laws do nothing more than get idiots re-elected while making Boston Law Firms wealthy making up the legal drafts before legislative approval. Its ALL ABOUT GETTING RE-ELECTED AND Lawyers making other lawyers RICH and wealthy, never having anything to do with safety or serving the public trust.
Go to NH, buy Glock, leave with frame only. NH dealer sends slide to Mass FFL. Pick up slide from said FFL. Assemble gun and register it as a build with the Massachusetts Gun Transaction Portal.
Federal law says you cannot buy a handgun in a state you don’t reside in so I’m curious how this would work? I guess if you went deep enough into NH and we’re very obviously of age they may not ID you but eve that seems farfetched. Please explain your logic?

Same "build your own" work around dude mentioned in the video. A dealer who is also a manufacturer can turn a pistol, into a frame. They then sell you the frame. And some other parts. And then YOU assemble the firearm yourself. A frame is not a firearm under MA law, yet....

You can technically do it yourself, there was a Keith Langer appearance on RapidFire, our 2A talks show, where he talked about manufacturing a self-made lower that is fixed. Getting the manufacture fixed-magazine lower is a better route. And you still build the gun up. There is an upcoming class for a fixed magazine AR build. Cost of the class is $999 and includes the rifle. You build and register it yourself in the class. Toby says yes you could technically do that. You need to find the gunshop out of state willing to break the gun down sell it to you as parts to build, and transfer the frame only. We can sell you a frame and when you assemble it into a gun you have seven days to register it. It was unclear to me if he was willing to do this IF you are able to find some shop willing to do it, so I would clear it with Toby personally.
10 round mags only. Call you local gun shop. You gun shop will not accept a magazine greater than 10 and will send the frame back to the sender!! Your local gun shop is an FFL.
I’m 19 and a criminal justice major. Really have an interest in guns but I’ve never shot even shot one. Would you recommend someone like me do research and build my own or should I just get a factory made handgun?
After you get comfortable and being safe, take it apart clean it and put it back together, do a functions test. Do it a lot if times. When you get to a point where you can do it in your sleep, build one.

Bought a house in NC and now can buy ammo in gas stations, have a pistol on my hip "Open Carry" or get a CCW with a 8 hour course.... Own any firearm I want now....They wanted us to turn in our NJ 15 rd. mags through out the state NONE were turn in, lol.... Commie NJ won't even "LET" you buy a M-1 carbine an 80 yr. old rifle for some reason..... I will say now NJ each election cycle more n more of North Jersey where they vote Left is voting Red... Gov. Murphy almost lost to the Rep. last crooked election.. The Mom's don't like Basic Shortages, Gas Prices, shortages with medicine, soap, baby food and What their teaching Kids in public schools.... be well n Keep America Great..

They are but because of a Massachusetts attorney general’s written suggestion, we are not able to sell those modern Glocks, for threat prosecution.

I would say...wait til you're 21. Then get one already assembled from the FFL.

All comes down to Risk V Reward. Some dealers have been fined, some left alone. Easiest way for dealers to not get jammed up is to sell frames.
