- Hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes can either induce or inhibit the metabolism of certain drugs, and this alters the concentration levels of certain drugs. I got over a few high-yield subtypes. In the end, I go over some practice Qs. This video is for education purposes only. Enjoy this as part of the PMHNP Certification Exam Review Course and as always Happy Learning!

I added to the inhibitors: Do ( depakote) be careful cause Covid feels overweeningly gross Always ( alcohol/acute) keep nana safe !
Love your videos. Thank you. I didn't think NSAIDs (Ibuprofen) inhibited Lithium-which isn't metabolized by the liver-but instead, decreased it's excretion from the kidneys thereby raising lithium levels
Thank you 🙏
omg thank you so much for sharing this. I love all your videos and I learned SO MUCH today

Hi Marlana, I'm working on neuroanatomy video. It might be a while before it will be posted. Was that something you were interested in?

To test my own understanding, with Antabuse and tegratol , you would increase the tegratol correct?
TIL the ol' doc has been prescribing me against recommendations and then acting confused when I have weird reactions, labeling me a troublemaker. Thank you.
Hi Ben, Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you didn't have severe reactions and were able to find a good provider.
Thanks for the video,! very helpful. Are there any crash courses that you recommend for the psych NP boards? I know Joanna Asia has a course for the FNP, but I can’t seem to find any for the PMHNP. I find those more helpful than the review manual since I’m an audio and visual person.
Hi Kerry. Glad it's helpful. You can show your love and support by liking the videos and sharing it with your peers. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to make PMHNP review but since video editing and presentation isn't necessarily my forte, it takes a longer time for. Hopefully in a month or so, I can have it ready.

does that mean zyprexa and nicotine are both inducers?
Hi I have a question: As it pertains to Carbamazepine and Oral Contraceptives; you would decrease the Carbamazepine because the birth control takes priority?
You would either discontinue, put them or another medication or increase the medication because of what you are treating them for (diagnosis). Even though it decreases the birth control, you can advise them to take precaution. Depends on what the question is asking. Think safety of the patient.
Flonase has steroids that would increase Tegretol level; therefore, Tegretol has to decrease. Increasing Tegretol dosage can lead to agranulocytosis.
Hi Ashley. Are you saying that you would decrease Tegretol? Its true Flonase has steroids. Yes, its true Tegretol can lead to agranulocytosis in which you will be doing routine blood work to monitor. With that said, Flonase is a PRN medication. It's not a standing medication. Tegretol on the other hand is a standing medication. You wouldn't necessarily be adjusting the standing medication over a PRN medication. In addition, if you are studying from the purple book, note that steroids induces depression or it can induce mania. The question focus isn't about inducers and inhibitors, its based on are you adjusting the medication because it's causing depression or mania. In which, the med is adjusted based on that. If the specialty is psychiatry, I wouldn't be adjusting any other medication that is out of my scope of practice, rather contact the primary.
@@PMHNP101 yup understanding the question is the first step in choosing the right answer.
