@@smalin By the way, it’s a very nice detail that you (or rather, the Netherlands Bach Society) choose to use a fortepiano for the recording. Since it was meant to be played at Frederick’s court.

So the legend goes, at least according to the film I recently saw, that the prince, trying to foil Bach publicly, demanded he improvise a 6-part fugue on this theme which he, in the film, heard during a cupping. Not sure what the procedure is called lol nor the movie.
Supposedly he improvised a 6part fugue ; but this is the result of Bach developing the ‘royal theme’ (which is wonderful and chromatic by the way) at home, and he presented it again to the prince
I have been waiting for this video for years.
Not years for me, but for months
Me to
the allusion to the BWV 875 fugue at 4:33 is interesting
Wow. Wonderful music , wonderful architecture, wonderful image & visualization. Congrats again
Thank you for all your wonderful work.
You're welcome.

One of my favorite fugues, its very unique
This visualisation works beautifully.
The bass voice at 5:39 sounds like the beginning of Contrapunctus 14's 2nd subject!
You're experimenting more :) Fascinating, both the piece and the visualization. I love it all.

I really appreciate your analytical approach.
I already love this fugue, but after watching this video I love it much more.
Is this played on a Silbermann copy? If so - it's criminal that I haven't heard it so presented before. Thanks!
It's 2025 and this still banger 🔥❤️
holy shit that was amazing. Was not expecting to find such a video

You’re much welcome.
Are you going to remake the Ricercar a 6?
I mostly don't make plans, so all I can say with certainty is: it's a possibility.
Good god he actually did it...
This sounds a a LOT like the Netherlands Bach Society version played by LVD
That’s because it is.
What program do use, tyy??

Bach improvised this on the spot, right?

You're mistaken. The fugue he improvised was 3 part; then he went home and composed the 6 part one.
How close the 3 part ricercar that he published is to what he improvised for the king isn't known.
@@smalin Yeah it would be pretty odd if he managed to improvise a 6 part but not 3 part fugue
DIS IS WEIRD (BUT AWESOME)
How is this weird?
Saw the film, didn't like the fugue.
Now listening again, it brought tears.
the crab....
Dejlig og krydret musik med ny og spændende animation ……
This is awesome, except for that unfortunate fact that its played on a piano
That's what Bach played it on ... poor King Frederick, having to hear it that way.
What? Your comment is so ambiguous you make me want commit self harm.
