This video has definitely helped me to do the first part for my timing chain as well. Didnt know that I need to remove the belt pulleys and motor mount to get access better for the cover to come out
The engine mount doesn't need to come off. You can cut the top bar portion of the gasket so that it slides under the cover. How did you get the pulley to stay put while you torqued the bolt?
Will I be able to pull that 13 mm bolt right out with out a problem! the one thats on front of timing cover next to water pump access hole? I’m hoping when I remove the mount on timing cover side it drops just enough to pull that 13mm right through wheel well?
I am doing timing cover gasket tomorrow! I rember when I did my water pump that bolt couldn’t slide all the way out because of the frame on my 2.4 Malibu 2010!
If the oil is only around the pulley area then it's more than likely the crank seal that's in the timing cover. I changed the seal in the video starting at about the 8min mark. It will be a little bit of a different removal process if the timing cover is not removed first. Thank you for the comment and watching it!
Subcribed! Good job man, and keep the Joy of Wrenching! Only tips I would give from someone a few more videos in is maybe invest in external microphone to pick up your valuable tips a little more and I really like the rechargeable lights with magnetic bases to put lots of light in those dark areas so it shows a little more clear on film. Even with those little things, you're doing great!

Question where did you buy the new gasket or what brand do you think works better?

Just had mines replaced yesterday since the old one was leaking oil and had to get a new serpentine belt too
How much did it cost for these repairs?
Thanks for the video 🙌🏻
You bet!
2010 Equinox, oil leak, I think oil around pulley area. I see not the case. It’s timing chain cover? Great video by the way. God bless thank you.

Wouldn't it have been easier to remove the Crank Bolt if you had left the belt on to give the pulley resistance?
Just subscribed
I have to do this job in a few weeks. I am going to post the link to this video in my video.
Thanks.
Thanks for subscribing and posting a link to the video. I hope the video helps you when you do it in a couple weeks.
According to GM you are supposed to replace the CRANK Bolt everytime you do this repair
Any torque specifications?
Do you recommend adding gasket maker?
No, I do not use gasket maker for this job. Just use a new hard gasket.
