One way I like to remember it is: if it's cold (Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb) then I just do the first three letters so I can get my hands back in my pockets. If it's warmer (March, April, May, June, July) then I can spell out the whole month. And then Aug/Sept I just have to remember on their own.

I think that it great that you are thinking about becoming an interpreting. We got our start working with a local college and were able to work with a few mentors to ease us into the field. You can also look into interpreting agencies in your local area. Sometimes depending on the company or college you can get started without a certification, however, a few that you can look into getting are the ESSE, EIPA, or the NIC.
