The amnesia is both caused partly by his resurrection as a Guardian, and having his memory reset 6 times as per procedure after becoming an Exo to prevent mental decay and relapse prior to the Collapse and thus Guardians. In other words, in many ways, it's a coping mechanism just as much as it is a sign of respect to those deceased.

In video games we can become masters of our own destiny, we control whether we are soldier, Kings, doctors, thief's, survivors, saviors, detectives. In videogames we become a part of the story no matter how small.
I feel like game aren't just that. They're more than games. They're an experience and you live with the characters and can feel their emotions. Especially true with Ezio but that's imo
