This tutorial is perfect! Your instruction is so succinct, and what a clever method. I got my first two rows sewn together and started the stitching on a whim last night, and I really enjoyed it. I had no idea what a Kantha quilt was before your video popped into my feed last week, and now I’m hooked. I hope something wonderful happens for you today! 🖤
Yes! Another flannel-instead-of-batting-quilter. I love to use old flannel-sheets from the thrift shop to make 'summer-quilts'. Thanks for the inspiration. I've made a chair-cover with the chakra-colours this summer... guess a chakra-kantha-quilt would be make it even better. 😉
You are welcome you can also make what they call summer quilts they can be a cotton top and a flannel or cotton back if you are using flannel make sure you pre wash it because it shrinks more than the cotton does. The one in he video was a thrifted flannel sheet
I've never been a big fan of quilt as you go, but your method is wonderful, especially for this type of coverlet! The finished project will be beautiful! Oh, dear! Now I have another project to try!
I was watching Sewing With Nancy and she put together a quilt as you go this exact same way. I was always very intimidated to put a quilt together the traditional way but when I saw this way I was "Now this I can do". I've made 3 quilts this way. I make it with 6" columns.
Some many years ago I was in an art display--and I saw a large item done completely with boro stitching. Must be an ages old style of stitching. Lovely stuff.
Beautiful quilt! You explained your technique very well. I have difficulty visualizing the finished product before I make something, unless I've seen it done. This has helped me a lot. Thank you for taking your time and sharing with us. 🇺🇸
Fantastic!! I am only a beginner at this, but I enjoy hand stitching too. This will be my next project. Thank you. I love your videos and the " organic" feel to them.
Love this! I struggle with stitching layers of larger quilts on my machine, this sew as you go will be a piece of cake! Thanks for sharing, your a fantastic teacher!
This is gorgeous and looks like a fun project. I have skirts made from old saris that I never wear, and I am planning to re-repurpose the fabric for a kantha quilt. I think this quilt-as-you-go technique will be perfect!
Thank you so much Terry!
Great instructions. Easy to follow. What a great way to use up my fabric strips. Love the slow stitch technique you used to hand quilt. Gives it a wonderful texture. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your video. I had not heard of the Kantha quilt, but now I know what to do with all of my strips that I have been saving for several years.) .😁
Years ago I attended a showing of different kinds of quilts. Many had the stitching like you use all over your quilt. Now I see many using the same thing. Kudos for bringing stitching to our modern attention.
(🏆VERY CLEVER!) love your idea. Sew as you go , this gives someone a chance to use which ever fabrics one comes a cross perhaps from family members🙆♀️💚.
Absolutely Brilliant 👏 👌 😀 👍 I was having such a time with seeing this in my head, you've sorted it beautifully, thank you for sharing. And I love your color way.
It's now May and I've just discovered this video, fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much. I'm currently working on your scrap busting color wash pattern. Enjoying every moment!
I am just learning the difference between kantha and kwandi. Thank you for this additional and much needed help quilting as you go for such a large-to-begin-with project as kantha is. I can't imagine how fussy it would be with jelly roll!! I have thread. I have needles. I have fabric. But which colors...the fun part of planning for me. Thanks again for this tutorial!!
Very interesting and love your experience with this Kantha thing! Thanks again, Terry- I’ll have to practice this method for my new disabled working in quilts- Sandra Myer
Hi Terry, I heard about you from Kate this morning while watching her video. I have never heard of a Kantha Quilt. I do like the idea.. thank you for your time and expertise and sharing your ideas. I enjoy your matter of fact and down to earth explanation without all the bells and whistles and weird music. I will sure visit you often - from South Africa 🌻
welcome to my channel Elizabeth. I do like to get to the point of why you are here those are the kind of videos i appreciate also. Thanks for looking me up
I use this method but sew on my overlocker starting with rectangle then adding to each side the ends then sides until required size then fold in edges and then sew on binding. Just love your work.
Ms Terry, you are an excellent tutor...... I do have some fabrics that I am going to try this method of using flannel fabric as one might say instead of using batting. this I can handle. I am a dressmaker. and admire those people that do quilting thanks again. last night I susbscribed to your channel Josefina Mccarty. Have a wonderful day....
i loved your technique, i have always wanted to do a good size Kantha quilt, but did not know how to navigate it. thanks for sharing, it's really a fantastic way.
This is great, so glad I found your video. I am a complete beginner with quilts and this is exactly what I would like to make. Thank you, I’m now subscribed and feel ready to brave undoing my jelly roll to make a start!
I’ve seen this type of sewing a simple quilt done in India I think where a woman would sew a quilt out of any clothing or textiles a family wanted to upcycle. It was mesmerizing but started sewing on the perimeter to the center sometimes incorporating new pieces of fabric as she went. Every culture has their version.
This is amazing! I’m doing a quilt as you go right now and it’s just not working out. I’m calling it my “ugly quilt” - next time I’m using your method! Thank you - it’s a game changer for me 😊

@@terryrowland398 I will send a picture in 84 years when it’s complete! 😹
Jokes aside I do intend to have it as a nice lapghan for summer evenings on the porch, so fingers crossed it’ll be more like 84 days. 🤞🏼

Fritzing around, love a new descriptive word!
Ya not sure where that came from you just have to measure around with it LOL
That quilt is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much!
Love this! I’ve not done much ‘quilt as you go’ because it’s such a pain to join the blocks into a quilt. I can do this!!!
Flannel! Genius! We live in the South and it is HOT… this is the perfect solution. I’m a brand new quilter, so thank you for this video!! ❤
