Electric assist fishing reels are extremely useful when fishing deep water, especially when using heavy weights. LiFePo4 batteries provide a good source of power because of their light weight and deep cycle or discharge capabilities while still maintaining very high recharge cycles.
Portable power for these reels is very helpful, especially if you are going with someone else (e.g. a buddy boat). One solution is to use a plastic ammunition box that can provide watertight storage for the battery and use a Marinco or Scotty down rigger plug through the Ammo case. This provides a standard plug that can be used for both down riggers and electric assist reels, like the Daiwa Tanacom.
In this video, I show a simple setup that is lightweight, provides 20Ah of battery power and can easily power your reel for a full day of fishing. It can also be a backup power source for your down rigger if needed. The portability of this allows for you to take your rod & reel on another boat without having to hard-wire into the other boat you might be a guest on.

I've used them fishing all day for halibut and bottom fish in 700' of water and still have plenty of juice. Fishing from 8AM till 3PM - doing bait checks, using the reels to assist pulling fish in and the battery is not been fully discharged yet on those trips. The Tanacom 750 (which is what we use) draws 3Amps with no load. 10Amp stall load. You are not (hopefully not) going to run them to stall, if you have your drag set properly. So its going to be somewhere between 3 and 10 amps of current draw.
The cool thing about LiFePo4 batteries is that you can discharge till the BMS shut's down and you're still going to get crazy recharge cycles out of it compared to Lead Acid.
