Saw a portly gentleman wearing a solid navy double breasted suit, it was definitely tailored and he looked fantastic, being double breasted really stood him out and it didnt make him look bigger than he was.. was cool to see
I'm in the "big and tall" camp, at 6'2 and 280 lbs and your advice on choosing suspenders over a belt was definitely a good one. My pants would be falling down with a belt, causing me to constantly hitch them up, but suspenders alleviated that concern. Definitely glad I subbed to your channel, keep up the great work :)
Thank you so much for this video Sven. I recently got into men's fashion about 3 months ago when i got a job at the men's big and tall store DXL (we do have quite a bit for short guys down to a 26 inseam and 32-33 sleeve). I have been watching your videos for the last few months and they have been very helpful. I see a few other gentlemen talk about big and tall men's clothing but never for the big and short market. much obliged sir. have a good one.
Excellent advice for the big and portly size gentleman this information proves regardless of one's size dressing well is still possible thanks so much for sharing!
Nice advice, as always. Could you touch on lapel pins? I've seen your videos describing flower lapels, but I'm more interested in the butterfly clutch styles and how/when to wear to them. Thanks!
Nice advices. Thank you. Could you give a list of in your opinion well dressed big/obese men? Such as Winston Churchill, Heinz Erhardt (?)...? I am looking for some templates to improve my style a bit. Greetings
A serious question that may sound silly, but I really like the suits worn by David Suchet in the Hercule Poirot series. Are they too old fashion to ask to be made for me?
It IS possible to alterate the length of a jacket but no more than about an inch. However, it needs a very skilled tailor and it is no cheap alteration. An inch sounds tiny but it can make a huge difference. I had to go this route with my dinner jacket because some other models had incorrect details like a notched lapel -- a disqualifier. The one I have choosen showed perfect details (with one exception: no buttonhole in the lapel which is easy to add later when needed but the uninterupted satin looks actually quite pretty). However, this jacket was a bit too long... It was impossible to order another size within the given time frame and the salesman told me they can do this alteration in time. I had massive doubts but I agreed and everything went well. The jacket looks really great every time I wear it.
Wolf0067 I posted on here earlier about having to get my jacket length altered and was worried about what the video said. I’m glad you were able to get yours altered without any trouble. I hope mine is the same and that it still looks well proportioned. I should find out in a week.
I’m a bit worried now, I got a suit last week and took it into a tailor to get it altered. I’d watched another video that said a suit should be the same length as the point on your thumb knuckle with your arms held at your side. On my suit it was only maybe an inch or two off but the tailor said he could shorten the suit. I’m worried that it is now going to throw the suit out of proportion.
Well for Chinos and Jeans, or Casual Trousers its going to elevate your style. So it just works.. Now its not something you want to wear over just a Tshirt. But it will always look good...
Hi I'm new to your channel I'm glad I subscribed you have alot of info and knowledge Can you make a video on big guys(husky, stucky) Whether we could or should do high waisted trousers and suspenders do and don'ts thank you I hope to learn more
I often hear that big guys shouldn't wear double breasted. That may be true off the rack but I'm betting a made to measure or bespoke tailor could make it work. Jackie Gleason certainly looked good in double breasted.
Ok I know you're doing Big and Tall, which is the usual thing that people associate with "horizontally challenged" men. But what about men like Danny Devito, who are stocky and short?
Def Pleated trousers for sure. Im a bodybuilder and my quads are huge. So its the only thing that works. Plus you always want to buy something that is a tad larger, and use a tailor to make them perfect. And use the suspender method so they look perfect...

I love how dude smiles after every selling point.

This segment was very important to me as I do have a portly body type, I learned so much, Thank you Raphael.
No worries!
Your videos are some of the most professional bunch on the entire website.
Thank you much for the tips
The suit you’re wearing is *chef kiss* beautiful
At 6' 4" tall the length of shirt sleeves are the biggest pain in my life when it comes to shirts
Always just a big tight or short and after washing... With great power comes awkwardly fitting clothes.

Wow....great video. Best I've seen.

Enjoyed the video. Thank you
everyone says different things except pinstripes. Some say wear a DB suit others no. Some say pleats others say too much fabric.

Miles Beler the kavalier might be a helpful resource for you

What about guys with large muscular legs?

You're welcome.
Wrong about the collar. A basic spread collar is perfect.
