The bike fitter you found is my favorite to take advice from…I worked at a shop for 17 years and would beg to go to bicycle fitting school to learn all I could for the craft. I was blown off by the owners as they felt it was “smoke and mirrors”. I’ve been out of the shop for a decade now but still cycle regularly and have change my position just because of the guy you found (not proud right now I can recall his name!😂). I’ve never felt better in the bike in my 16 years of road cycling. So I guess I’m trying to say….thank you! Thank you to all of the cycling you tubers trying to bring content to the cycling community!

I feel that the gavia ac1 feels heavier when riding, and its performance may be worse. But maybe because it is a tubeless tyre, its comfort is so good, I even prefer gavia ac1 now.

One thing tubeless has done for me is no walking. Plus it's the rainy season here and swapping tubes in a straight downpour is not fun. I've also ridden home with objects stuck in the tire that would have destroyed a tubed tyre. BTW, the tyre that had the object stuck in it was a Conti 5K TL.
@@jcsrst I see GB tri athlete just won silver at the Olympics, she punctured, basically threw away her chance at gold by not running tubeless, I don't know why athletes leave something so basic to chance, 5 years running road tubeless without having to stop on the side of the road and mess with tubes has convinced me.
You weren’t lying!!!!!!! Bought a 2021 Giant TCR came with tubeless Gavia Tires. First time using tubeless, kept getting slow leaks, felt slow. Eventually i bought a pair of Pro One Tubeless but I’m like let me just wear the Gavia’s out. Saw your video this morning in Chicago, swapped em out. Huge difference. Immediately felt the change in rolling resistance. Thanks Cam.
What I find special about your videos is that you are really putting your heart and soul in them. I love how you balance cycling topics and parts of your personal life. It makes your videos very informative, enjoyable and intimate at the same time. Great work!
I was blown away by the difference good, low rolling resistance tyres make for the overall feel, speed, and comfort of the bike. Personally, I prefer the Continental 5000s (220 g for a 25mm tyre, never had a puncture), I have friends who prefer the Vittorias or the P Zeros - they are all in the same ball park in terms of performance. There is a reason why one of the easiest and most noticeable upgrades one can make to their bike is swapping the tyres for some of the high-end ones. But it is so disappointing to see a bike that costs many thousands of dollars come with rubbish tyres...
I also had a similar experience with my 2021 Giant TCR. Within a week of riding I had a puncture that didn't seal on the stock Cadex Race tires that it came with. I swapped to a more "durable" tire, the Gavia AC1 and the tire blew a hole in the sidewall when i went over a small bump. I hate how besides the crappy giant tires, only the SCHWALBE PRO ONE TLE are approved for Giant tubeless system... not much options to choose. Anyways love your content! Keep it up. As a small youtuber, I also have trouble getting bikes to review from bike shops. Its honestly so difficult sometimes.
Oh Cam, I had to lough so hard so often this time. Well done. And about your reflection: I think you are doing a great job keeping us entertained with bike related and personal stuff. It's always a good Friday watching your content. The GIANT HQ was just the cherry on top. See ya

I commend you even more for having the lucidity to identify areas of improvement where some (most, sadly) would just shrug it off out of misplaced pride or whatever only to realise way too late their channel has long gone down a filthy drain. Great video Cam, don’t be stressing about content, I’ve been watching yer vids for a few months and enjoyed them all. If a viewer isn’t enjoying a particular one they can stop watching? Just be you, doing your thing, that’s what people should enjoy. Keep up the good work, Jay U.K. 👍🏻
Love your honesty mate - keep it up! Propel rider on Pro Ones smashing my local strava segments - treat the 25mm like 28s (pressure wise due to the wider inner rim) and you may see even better timings on real world tarmac.
Continue have always been great to me. But at least where I live they are pretty expensive. Having said that way less punctures (none?) and a smooth ride. Hard to disagree with their longevity which will bring the cost down!
After reading reviews I took the plunge on some GP5000’s and they are great, very impressed. The Maxxis tyres that came with the bike are puncture prone rubbish. I have had pretty good luck with the Giant tubes fwiw.
No worries mate ! I would not say your quality is lacking.Quality over quantity always better though. You are probably your worst critic. Agree with you any bike brand should not have crap tyres on an expensive bike. Good wheels and tyres transform even a budget bike.
My experience with Giant Gavia tires is that they are usually heavier and less fast than other tires, but their endurance seems to be pretty good. The roads around me are pretty poor currently and I found that my Schwalbe didn't fair too well whereas the Gavia has done pretty well. You can also get them pretty cheap online from people upgrading which helps I'm currently running the Gavia as they were the only reasonable tubeless tires I could get a few weeks back (thanks to COVID bike shortage)
I love good rubber, ever since I shod GP4000s’ 10+ years ago I became a convert to performance tyres. No need to change anything about your channel Cam, you’re true to your core values, and that works here.
I haven't encountered a single video without a value on your channel, so please keep up doing the man's job Cam! Heaps of great stuff you have put out there so far. Greetings from NYC. Cheers!
I had the same thing happen (in the exact same spot on the sidewall) to a Cadex tyre that came with a new 2020 TCR Advanced Pro a couple of months after purchase. It just blew out one evening as the bike was sitting in the spare room. The new Cadex was $119 and, to be fair, has been fine for the past 6 months. Have just bought some new Schwable Pro Ones so will be interested to compare. Appreciate your outstanding ongoing content Cam. Thanks.
5:15 Amazing you can feel a 1.5 - 2% difference in time. Looking at it another way the Gavia tires weigh 20% more than the Schwalbe yet the time penalty (3-4s) is negigible.
I have a TCR Disc with the Gavia ac1s, I don’t have a issue with them as I can’t compare them to anything else. I bought my TCR back in August 2020, and have since put about 3200 miles on that bike with the stock tires. Ill be looking into tires next season, probably the GP 5000 or the Shwalbe Pro. Also I feel its a waste to immediately get new tires to replace the stock Gavias, if you’re just a recreational rider. Just put the miles on the tires and replace them in about 3000 miles. They are decent tires that will get the job done until you’re ready for an upgrade down the line. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk!
First thing I did when I got my TCR is pitch the giant tires and put on some GP5000. I have a feeling it was accounting decision, 100,000 bikes x 2 tires and some decent profit margins, it was probably an easy sell to senior management.
likewise! I bought a 2018 TCR Advanced 1 and wasn’t impressed with the stock 25mm Gavia tyres. Felt a bit sluggish and had poor grip in damp conditions. Swapped to 28mm Schwalbe Pro Ones and the bike felt totally different - faster and more cushioned. The Schwalbes seemed to wear quickly though and I had 2 unsealable gashes within 2-3000km and some delamination of the top layer. I’ve now moved to Conti GP5000 TL, which are good, but won’t work on the 2021 Giant TCR.
Nice idea but a bit backwards . Tyres are a personal choice . If they fitted Gp400 tyres to every bike it would cost millions , how many of which would get taken off and binned ? Because it is such a personal choice giant decided to just put on their own tyre that will be replaced and kept as a backup tyre or used until worn out . Saving money on parts that will be worn out relatively quickly after purchase mean more money spent else where . Cheaper OEM tyres is not about profit , its about not wasting money .
I have the 2021 TCR and have had so many issues with the giant tyres. But on the website it says that Giant doesn't recommend using other brands... Does anyone know if this is true or not?
Rode the Giant tyres on my Propel until they were cooked with about 3k on them. Then swapped them for some Continental 5000 and thought I was riding a different bike. Felt better on the road, faster, more compliant and smoother through corners and particularly on the down hills at speed. Turns out it was not just me. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.
My base model ultimate disc came with gp 5ks. That's probably why I can't be bothered to upgrade the wheels. They roll pretty darn well as is. Good work as always. You are way more likable, and your content more enjoyable and educational than a certain other Aussie who I will not name here😉. Take your time.
I noticed that some brands put crap parts on a great frame when buying the med level bike from their range. Examples ;300 gram seat post, 350 gram handlebars, thru axles, quick releases 150 grams,200 gram stem, 300 gram saddle, and Your example tires. Grand total saving possible to high end parts 500 grams or 1.2 lbs. MY Canyon ultimate cs lsx disc weights 7.25 KG with pedals and cages 65 mm deep wheel set. My friends Giant defy disc weights 9.3kg because of things like handle bars etc.
Had a pair of those Gavia Zeros on my Giant. Riding down the bike path in Kent Street, Sydney, I hit a bit of construction crap that didn't hit the tyre right on the crown. Sealant shit went everywhere, none of which blocked the cut. Fortunately, Giant Sydney were about a block away. They tried to inject more sealant, but that just blew out again and all over the workshop. Bought Pirellis and a couple of tubes and haven't looked back
First of all, I really appreciate your content. You bring up very good topics, be it bike fitting with Neill, bike building and testing. I also like the little insights into your family life. Now back to business: I switched to Continental tires in the 80's, and did not have a puncture since. The ride quality and grip in all weather conditions is perfect. With my TCR came the Gavia Course 1. They feel a bit sluggish, but grip until now is good. It was a bit of a struggle to get Continental 5000 TL tires, but now they are ready in case I need them.
I own the Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 (2021) I still have the Gavia Fondo tyres on it (shop stuffed up!). I didn't think the GP5000's were compatible with hookless rims? I bought the Shwalbe One TLE's with the gumwalls for the Summer. Looking forward to seeing if I notice a change!
I just got the TCR Advanced Pro Team (I think it is the same bike but with a different color and for the european market?) and the Gavia Course 1 tires do feel somehow slow after riding GP5000's with latex tubes in my other bike. The hookless system is frustrating with the "compatibility charts" and the decision from Continental to not recommend using their tires in the hookless system. I am looking to fit some Pirellis or Schwalbe pro ones later in the year to see if there is a difference.
I’m very iffy on giant after my recent issue with a gravel bike I purchased from them. 2021 giant revolt advanced. The crankset they put in it “praxis” was incompatible with the grx group. I heard they did this because they couldn’t get grx cranks due to availability. The frame of this bike also had an issue and the rear disc mount area where the brake would not mount properly which resulted in disc rub no matter what u did. The frame also cracked within 2 months on the seat tube!
Cam, pro audio engineer here and just a quick tip - you can pull the Procaster about 2 feet or so away from your mouth to prevent that massive low mid build up and make your voice sound more natural. Great mic but it needs some distance Great content btw
Great tip mate, I appreciate it. I seem to have a problem with my connecting audio interface then as it's almost all the way up, volume wise, yet it's still not peaking. So if i'm too far away the audio levels are super low. Thoughts?
@@CamNicholls dynamic mics are indeed very power hungry so you're smack on your observation there. It's just the nature of these broadcast mics If your audio interface can't provide enough juice, consider getting a FetHead or a Cloudlifter It should be said that modern interfaces like the budget Behringer 204HD or Motu M2 can provide good clean gain to it PS your bike fit videos convinced me to get dedicated cycling shoes, Cam. My wallet can't keep up sustaining audio AND cycling Cheers from the Philippines
Judging by the likes v dislikes percentage Cam you’re onto a winner mate. Don’t overthink this. We need content (!) and while you can’t keep everyone happy, better to have something here more often than force us all to have our feeds filled with someone from overseas who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Your stuff is real mate. Keep it up.
Cam you should put up a poll ranking the type of content they enjoy. I enjoy Technical training, solving problems with bike/accessories, also the behind the scenes clip with fam.
It’s a good idea Rick, although the analytics have kinda already told me. It’s all centred around buying, testing, tweaking, fixing, reviewing new bikes! My training based content is now all on the RCA channel. 👍
IMHO the more you get into cycling the more you gravitate towards your own frame up build - unless you have the saving of recycling components from an earlier bike then off-the-shelve looks cheaper but invariably you need to change out the config - cassette range, rear derailleur length, crank length, crank rings, saddle, handlebar width, wheelset (depth, tyre) are so often not what you would (or should according to Neill for you Cam) choose.
Unfortunately the state of the market has really dampened the joys of build it yourself. With out of stock parts and crazy pricing, there's a good argument to buy a complete bike right now.
I actually found the only for me to buy a bike was to do a complete build. Managed to get a complete ultegra di2 set up and all other components within 2 months. Got a 10k bike for about 6k
I tend to binge watch your content so bringing it out regularly on a Friday is not a big deal for me. On the tire thing, while you say you're not a big tire nerd, its obvious that there is a difference between the best and the rest. My preference is for bulletproof vs outright speed. As with cars, this is a thing that can quite literally transform a bike.
its amazing the difference between tyres. i had 32mm gators with tubes on my Belgie. great for touring but struggled to cruise above 35kph. converted it to tubeless conti 5000's and OMG very very noticable difference in speed.
Cam, as a subscriber… I have no complaints about the quality of your content…. Here is some clarity for you: You keep things legit, you always try to be objective, honest, no frills- and I admire that about you. I’m still LOL that my bigger sized propel weighs less, but, as you can see, it’s all about speed with that bike. Stay safe, keep things real, I’m still subscribed… no worries!
Cam, don't second guess yourself mate! I don't think I have ever seen any crap content on your channel. TBH, I don't think there is any other everyday bloke on UA-cam that I can think of who is doing as much as you are to source, review and compare real bikes and components that us, the people, are actually interested in! Love your laid back style, love old mate, love the little cut scenes to "Giant HQ". Keep doing what you are doing mate! I'll keep coming back!
Part 1: Giant tyres have always been disposable. The parody of the Tyre Boffin was on-point. Part 2: No matter the subject matter of the Friday vlog series, have been always curious if you exceed the Two Parts to a video. Thanks Cam.
I have a 2020 GIANT PROPEL Advanced Pro 0, the Gavia tyres gave me big fright letting go whilst leaned over going through a fast corner within first few weeks of ownership then one of them suffered a large puncture only just able to limp home with repeated filling of tire with CO2 and sealant spewing out every where, Giant external road patch of no use just fell off. Have changed to continental GP 5000TL and couldn’t be happier excellent grip good feel and one puncture which it coped with quite well . Highly recommend the Continental GP5000TL
I found the Gavia tyres very good on my TCR. They rolled easily and had good grip in wet or dry and I would have stayed with them tbh. But then, one day I thought it was time to renew the goop in the tyres. I could NOT get them to re-air.........even with a compressor and the valve out. I tried every trick I've used in my life without success ie. spraying soapy water on beads, goop on beads, etc, etc. Gave up in the end. On Pirelli 28mm's now.
YES! Bought my TCR Adv 2 yrs ago and the tyres didn’t last plus failed two weekends back to back. When I went back to the Giant store here in Singapore they were a little embarrassed to say they were the ‘bundled’ tyres. Not very good. I stuck with them but upgraded to their better tyre. Lasted longer. 6 months ago I went to the Schwalbe Pro One. Feel better on the road and even better puncture protection with a thumbtack that sealed with the sealant. Giants (even the better ones) didn’t seal this well.
Do what makes you happy. Don't worry about the comments. Everyone's a critic but not everyone can be bothered to do what you are doing. On the vlog. I always look forward to the Friday vlog. not just about the cycling side of it. you have also let us into your family life. from your wifes op, to beanbags for dogs to the girls now getting independant and wanting to walk on they own. be proud of what you do and do it because it makes you happy.
Mate...re the weekly Friday vlog. You do you but I've enjoyed the regularity and appreciated the effort for content this causes. Either way keep it coming and I expect more guest appearances from HQ, gold
I recently brought the Giant TCR pro disc advance 1 and I couldn’t wait to get the standard tyres off. Swapped them for Pirelli P Zero’s. The difference is light and day. I’ve seen many UA-cam videos saying the Giant standard tyres are fine but I hated them.
Love giant bikes since my first road bike was a giant. Interesting to hear your thoughts on this video and how much difference a change in tyre made to the performance. Keep up the good work!
Good video AND the second part dovetailed with the first part. Giant sells vast quantities of bicycles at every level. Being such a large company it's probably not a stretch to conclude that those crap tires were not the choice of the bike designers but some bean counters somewhere calculating how much the company would save by shipping with cheaper tires. As a result I'll bet the designers of the bike are horrified because the final product doesn't reflect the work they put into the bike. Given a choice they'd probably prefer the bike be shipped with the Schwalbe tires you tested or something similar so that the bike that is shipped is what they intended. Likewise, your message about wanting to post quality content you can be proud of is completely understandable. Like those bike designers, you didn't go all in on UA-cam to be producing something you don't feel good about. So by all means be true to yourself. You'll never loose doing that.
Been following the channel for a long time Cam and I absolutely always love the content. Keep up the good work my dude!! Always look forward to your vids!
The worst part about the tires is that they own Cadex. I tried the Cadex Race tubeless and they are great! I really like them. I've had them on my bike for about six months now and I still like them. They are kind of expensive for the consumer, but Giant owns Cadex. They could have used those tires and it would have been a huge improvement. As for you content, I don't remember seeing anything from you that I thought was bad. Just keep up the good work.
My Trek Emonda SL5 had a similar issue. While not in the same price bracket, the tires it came with are horrendous. They are so bad to the point where I don't even feel like using them for the on-wheel bike trainer
My comment in 2 parts😉. Part 1: Giant project manager: "But we have to hit a price point and our customers will change the tyres anyway". Customer: "But I'd rather pay $100 dollars more and have decent tyres from the off or I may think negatively about my first impressions after spending $5k". Part 2: No need to apologise, you're doing a great job. The fact 1000s clearly tune in each week and like what your doing, means you're doing something right. But okay quality helps too😁.
Good idea to quickly upgrade the outer tires instead of keeping the original ones. Even for budget bikes. Continental & Scwhalbe are some of the good ones. Stay safe Cam & ride on...
Cam, don't sweat it if you miss 1 Friday here or there, your content is great. Regarding the AC 1's, I've got those on PR2 wheels (not great wheels from what I read) on my 2019 TCR Advanced 1. I'm close to 7000 Kms on these tires, got only 2 flats on the rear tire, once my fault, the other a 3,3 cm long nail, the Muc-Off sealant managed to seal around the nail and hold pressure. So I'll look for something else when there are worn out, and will go faster without training, cool !!! You could say that these AC 1's are a bit like the Schwalbe Marathon, they make you work a bit more ... HAHA
@@CamNicholls It's a bit like bikes fully equipped with Shimano 105 EXCEPT for the crankset which they put the Shimano FC-RS510 (looks like 105, but has Shimano written on them instead of 105). They are at least 200g heavier than the corresponding 105, and 200 $CDN cheaper ... People who read this, do spend the extra bucks and request a replacement.
I beg to differ. Your quality and variety of content is very high. Having said that, you are ultimately the harshest critic. Regardless of what you decide, it will be terrific. Keep up the great work Cam.
Cam, the Giant office sequence was hilarious - I hope they weren't that rude in real life... Your the second You-Tuber I've seen in recent days say they are pulling back because of the hard push to make content burns them out just to get something posted. I can't say you have ever disappointed me with your content, after all there is a degree of entertainment involved that makes it interesting. No disrespect to the carbon repair guy here in Melbourne but his content is all school and no fun, so your channel has a bit of fun about it and I like that. GCN can be just silly at times - don't go that far!!
Enjoyed the video. Stuck some GP5000 tyres on my propel and I "think" it made it better. It could very well be placebo lol. They are rather chunky bikes though. Not the ideal choice if you do a lot of climbing. Better with a TCR.
I have the Gavia's too on my Giant defy advanced 2, I feel very unstable cornering on gravel (road is ok), the bike slides away really quickly, as well as on fast descents, and I had the suspision the tyres were the culprit. I was hanging on to them because they are tubeless, but I have some GP 4 seasons lying about, that although they are with inner tubes, could perform better. Gonna try, good to see I'm not the only one! Will leave a comment after testing the switch
@@CamNicholls turns out handling is much, much better with the Conti 4 seasons on, on road and especially on gravel. On the cobbles (I live in Belgium so a lot of those) they're even more comfy then the Gavias, which are tubeless!
Hi Cam, Hope all is well up on the sunny coast😎. No matter what I still love the content and honesty. You are making me envious though with that 2021 Merida Reacto 6000👍. I made an enquiry recently and was told that no stock would be arriving until Dec TY☹️
Love the channel Cam. Keep up the good work. Here is an idea for a video: How big a difference do you see on your favourite climb at lower power levels? Do the time differences between bikes become larger at 300w, 250w or 200w? I for one would never be able to ride that duration at 350w.
In my mind, tires are like pedals on bikes. You never keep the stock and always swap them out. I swapped out my giant brand tires with GP 4000/5000 and yeah they definitely feel smoother and less road resistance.
Yep I'm the same, rather the price was down with cheap tires which I remove (they are heavy) and run on a training bike and put the tires on the TCR that I prefer to race with.
I used the Schwalbe One's for one day. 3 puncture's in the front and 1 on the back? I switched to Pirelli's and Conti GP 5000 tubeless for all my bikes.

Thank you Iauig, appreciate the kind words 👍
Great video Cam, don’t be stressing about content, I’ve been watching yer vids for a few months and enjoyed them all. If a viewer isn’t enjoying a particular one they can stop watching? Just be you, doing your thing, that’s what people should enjoy. Keep up the good work, Jay U.K. 👍🏻
Love your honesty mate - keep it up! Propel rider on Pro Ones smashing my local strava segments - treat the 25mm like 28s (pressure wise due to the wider inner rim) and you may see even better timings on real world tarmac.
continental gp5000 is the best price / performance tires, change my mind.
Continue have always been great to me. But at least where I live they are pretty expensive. Having said that way less punctures (none?) and a smooth ride. Hard to disagree with their longevity which will bring the cost down!
Other than clearance gp4000's
After reading reviews I took the plunge on some GP5000’s and they are great, very impressed. The Maxxis tyres that came with the bike are puncture prone rubbish. I have had pretty good luck with the Giant tubes fwiw.
Updated my Gavias to Cont GP5000 tubeless. Night and day, so glad I did.
Continental grand sport or ultrasport, they feel almost the same as gp5000 when riding, but they are much cheaper.
You can also get them pretty cheap online from people upgrading which helps
I'm currently running the Gavia as they were the only reasonable tubeless tires I could get a few weeks back (thanks to COVID bike shortage)
my 2021 TCR came with Giants Course 1 tyres and they have been probably the best tubeless tyre I have had so far! Either way great video Cam
I love good rubber, ever since I shod GP4000s’ 10+ years ago I became a convert to performance tyres. No need to change anything about your channel Cam, you’re true to your core values, and that works here.
You're a great man. Do your thing and we will always be there to support.
Cheers Walker.
the stale banana on the donut cracked me up haha
Great video. I’m loving the content that I’ve seen so far on your channel. Keep it up!
Cheers Joel.
I appreciate getting the Friday vlog series on Thursday. #InternationalDateLine. Love it! 😂
hahaha, I am in the future Clark!
I haven't encountered a single video without a value on your channel, so please keep up doing the man's job Cam! Heaps of great stuff you have put out there so far. Greetings from NYC. Cheers!
Cheers Lukas
I had the same thing happen (in the exact same spot on the sidewall) to a Cadex tyre that came with a new 2020 TCR Advanced Pro a couple of months after purchase. It just blew out one evening as the bike was sitting in the spare room. The new Cadex was $119 and, to be fair, has been fine for the past 6 months. Have just bought some new Schwable Pro Ones so will be interested to compare. Appreciate your outstanding ongoing content Cam. Thanks.
Cheers Dean and thanks for sharing on the thread
LMAO That camp character spazzing out about tyres! Ohhhh my!
Character? I thought that was a special guest appearance by Chris Miller.
5:15 Amazing you can feel a 1.5 - 2% difference in time. Looking at it another way the Gavia tires weigh 20% more than the Schwalbe yet the time penalty (3-4s) is negigible.
I like watching anything you put out. It makes you feel more real and relatable to the everyday person.
You are awesome dude! Don't worry about always getting out the Friday series! I agree - quality is worth it!
Man, That Giant phone call segment was golden. Cheers for the chuckle d*head.
With the Gavias on my defy, my frame was always sprayed with sealant, changed to Contis not had one hole ever!
I´ve bought a Propel 2020 and yes it came with these Giant Gavia something tires.. before even riding the bike I switched to GP 5000..
First thing I did when I got my TCR is pitch the giant tires and put on some GP5000. I have a feeling it was accounting decision, 100,000 bikes x 2 tires and some decent profit margins, it was probably an easy sell to senior management.
Thanks for sharing on the thread David and yes - that would most definitely be the reason! Cheers, Cam
^on the SLR1 GIANT WHEELS.
Love your videos, specially with how much total time you put into combining all the videos you shoot and compile them into the final one.
Cheers 👍
Switched my Gavias out for a set of Conti GP 5000s. Such a difference.
Had the gavia tires on my defy advanced pro0. Tore the shit out of the rear tire on a rough decent. GP5000 are the goods.
Bought Pirellis and a couple of tubes and haven't looked back
Interesting to hear Paolo, thanks for sharing on the thread
I can confirm - the Gavia tires on my Propel aren’t great - need to upgrade to Schwalbe tires soon 👍🏻
Cheers Tom, appreciate that mate. And thanks for the support 👍
My favorite video of yours! Love the comedic production.
Cheers Mark
Enjoying the videos mate. Be proud as everyone gets better and better even when experimenting with new stuff!
Cheers Hamish
I’m very iffy on giant after my recent issue with a gravel bike I purchased from them. 2021 giant revolt advanced. The crankset they put in it “praxis” was incompatible with the grx group. I heard they did this because they couldn’t get grx cranks due to availability. The frame of this bike also had an issue and the rear disc mount area where the brake would not mount properly which resulted in disc rub no matter what u did. The frame also cracked within 2 months on the seat tube!
Interesting to hear Troy, thanks for sharing on the thread
Cam, pro audio engineer here and just a quick tip - you can pull the Procaster about 2 feet or so away from your mouth to prevent that massive low mid build up and make your voice sound more natural. Great mic but it needs some distance
Great content btw
Great tip mate, I appreciate it. I seem to have a problem with my connecting audio interface then as it's almost all the way up, volume wise, yet it's still not peaking. So if i'm too far away the audio levels are super low. Thoughts?
@@CamNicholls dynamic mics are indeed very power hungry so you're smack on your observation there. It's just the nature of these broadcast mics
If your audio interface can't provide enough juice, consider getting a FetHead or a Cloudlifter
It should be said that modern interfaces like the budget Behringer 204HD or Motu M2 can provide good clean gain to it
PS your bike fit videos convinced me to get dedicated cycling shoes, Cam. My wallet can't keep up sustaining audio AND cycling
Cheers from the Philippines
Judging by the likes v dislikes percentage Cam you’re onto a winner mate. Don’t overthink this. We need content (!) and while you can’t keep everyone happy, better to have something here more often than force us all to have our feeds filled with someone from overseas who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Your stuff is real mate. Keep it up.
Cheers Todd 👍
Hilarious Cam. The cameo’s are getting wild. Haha.
its amazing the difference between tyres. i had 32mm gators with tubes on my Belgie. great for touring but struggled to cruise above 35kph. converted it to tubeless conti 5000's and OMG very very noticable difference in speed.
Moved from S-works turbo to Continental gp 5000 to Schwalbe pro one, fast, grippy, comfy and maybe a bit less durable.
Cheers Dio and thanks for the support mate 👍
After watching this video, clicked into Facebook and instantly saw a Giant Advertisement
Classic Zuckerberg
haha, they're everywhere!
Cheers mate 👍👍
I love your honesty and self directed humour, absolute classic.
Cheers mate
i love the short scetches in youre videos. You have a nack for timing and feal for humor
I had Giant tyres on my Defy and they where rubbish. I didn’t notice till I swapped them as I am no expert but what a difference.
Part 1: Giant tyres have always been disposable. The parody of the Tyre Boffin was on-point. Part 2: No matter the subject matter of the Friday vlog series, have been always curious if you exceed the Two Parts to a video. Thanks Cam.
Cheers Andy
Definitely see the improvements of your video quality. Love funny role play.
Cheers mate
I have a 2020 GIANT PROPEL Advanced Pro 0, the Gavia tyres gave me big fright letting go whilst leaned over going through a fast corner within first few weeks of ownership then one of them suffered a large puncture only just able to limp home with repeated filling of tire with CO2 and sealant spewing out every where, Giant external road patch of no use just fell off. Have changed to continental GP 5000TL and couldn’t be happier excellent grip good feel and one puncture which it coped with quite well . Highly recommend the Continental GP5000TL
Interesting to hear Jon, thanks for sharing on the thread
i love how he says Day-TA 3:59
Interesting to hear Glen. Thanks for sharing on the thread 👍
Cheers Steve
Mate...re the weekly Friday vlog. You do you but I've enjoyed the regularity and appreciated the effort for content this causes. Either way keep it coming and I expect more guest appearances from HQ, gold
Haha, cheers mate
Very nice Cam. Thank you for your sharing and honesty. Really enjoy your content. Keep it up. 👍🏻
LOL on that giant HQ scene + that tire connoisseur guy
Oh man this channel was on very good level, but those funny bits just make it awesome hah!
Cheers Ethan, appreciate the support too!
Cheers David and thanks for sharing
Loved this video, top work Cam
My Trek Emonda SL5 had a similar issue. While not in the same price bracket, the tires it came with are horrendous. They are so bad to the point where I don't even feel like using them for the on-wheel bike trainer
I've got a Defy 1, not only crap tires but crap wheels too.
Agreed!
And why did you buy it?
My comment in 2 parts😉. Part 1:
Giant project manager: "But we have to hit a price point and our customers will change the tyres anyway".
Cheers mate and agree 💯 on part one
Good idea to quickly upgrade the outer tires instead of keeping the original ones. Even for budget bikes. Continental & Scwhalbe are some of the good ones. Stay safe Cam & ride on...
"Why put crap tires the bike?" Giant- "We just found a way to increase profit by $30!"
$30 x 100000 = a significant contribution to EBIT. Not saying it's right.
Same reason they put a 105 gruppo on the Defy Advanced, except for the cranks, which are RS510, which retail for USD$50 less.
HAHA
haha! I agree that they do. But I'm not sure that's a good combo on the FAST bike!
RIght on Cam! Love the humor in part 1 and honesty in part 2. I'm all for quality of quantity too! Keep up the good work.
Quality is through the roof as usual Cam, actually laughed out loud on the bus at the GiantHQ and stale banana bits. “PERFECT” 😂
Cheers Sean
I beg to differ. Your quality and variety of content is very high. Having said that, you are ultimately the harshest critic. Regardless of what you decide, it will be terrific. Keep up the great work Cam.
Cheers mate
Cam, the Giant office sequence was hilarious - I hope they weren't that rude in real life...
Your the second You-Tuber I've seen in recent days say they are pulling back because of the hard push to make content burns them out just to get something posted.
I can't say you have ever disappointed me with your content, after all there is a degree of entertainment involved that makes it interesting.
No disrespect to the carbon repair guy here in Melbourne but his content is all school and no fun, so your channel has a bit of fun about it and I like that.
GCN can be just silly at times - don't go that far!!
Cheers mate
Enjoyed the video. Stuck some GP5000 tyres on my propel and I "think" it made it better. It could very well be placebo lol. They are rather chunky bikes though. Not the ideal choice if you do a lot of climbing. Better with a TCR.
Yes I think at times it can be placebo, that is why I did the test! Otherwise I would have been trolled the death. haha.
Interesting to hear mate, thanks for sharing on the thread.
Cheers Bony and wow! end of Dec, that is crazy
Love the channel Cam. Keep up the good work.
Here is an idea for a video: How big a difference do you see on your favourite climb at lower power levels? Do the time differences between bikes become larger at 300w, 250w or 200w? I for one would never be able to ride that duration at 350w.
Thanks from Cork Cam
In my mind, tires are like pedals on bikes. You never keep the stock and always swap them out.
I swapped out my giant brand tires with GP 4000/5000 and yeah they definitely feel smoother and less road resistance.
Yep I'm the same, rather the price was down with cheap tires which I remove (they are heavy) and run on a training bike and put the tires on the TCR that I prefer to race with.
I swapped my gavia ac1s on my propel advanced with conti ultrasports and it already make such a huge difference I just threw the gavias away
I used the Schwalbe One's for one day. 3 puncture's in the front and 1 on the back? I switched to Pirelli's and Conti GP 5000 tubeless for all my bikes.
Schwalbe one was my favourite tyre, until i tried Michelin Power Completion!
Great honest review on the giant propel mate! I just bought one, really appreciate your review, cheers 👍🚴
Nice one Mitchell, enjoy
Helpful, thanks!
Your content is amazing!
Cheers mate, much appreciated.
