Yeah it's absolutely no contest that while(1>2) is the best deadmau5 album, and I want to say that is was your review that made me come to love it. I used to listen to deadmau5 quite a bit back in high school but after a while I pretty much completely phased him out of rotation, and I am almost certain that it was your discography review that made me revist the guy. What I came to find out is that while I liked listening his albums casually, I only really loved a handful of tracks across them. Then I came around to while(1>2) and found out that it was BY FAR the best album he put together, which to me is kinda odd considering that I was really cool on it when I first heard it, but that was also back when it released and at that point I hadn't familiarized myself with electronic music yet (I was mostly a rock/metal guy), despite it now being the genre I easily get the most consistent enjoyment from nowadays. I also completely agree with you in saying the second half of the first disc has some of his best tracks ever, including quite possibly my personal favorite track of his, as weird as this may sound, Somewhere Up Here, which essentially became my favorite track of his when I started throwing it into the background as relaxation music... which I needed a lot in 2017 & 2018, as well as just good thinking music. One last thing, I remember hearing (or maybe it was reading?) an interview with Joel where he talked about while(1>2) and some of the things he said where quite interesting. First of all, he was actually VERY enthusiastic with what he made, which is odd considering he general shows apathy whenever he puts an album out, but this one he seemed actually happy about releasing. What makes this even more impressive is that Joel has gone on record saying he had been suffering from depression since before the 7 EP, yet was still album to work up more enthusiasm for while(1>2) than probably all of his other albums combined despite being depressed. Secondly, kinda adding onto the last one he said that this was by far his best work he put out to date, once again far more enthusiastic than usual (I also seem to recall him saying that it fit his current mindset at the time, but I'm not entirely certain about it , but would make sense given the depression and the inclusion of the entire 7 EP in some way). Finally, and this is easily the most telling thing, Joel himself said that while(1>2) was the first time he actually made an album, and he even said he considers it his first proper album and says that he considers all of his other album releases up to that point to just be compilations, and I don't recall at any point him going back on this sentiment, I think he was dead serious to the possible dismay of his fans. Hilariously, you can kinda tell this by the album titles, as not only does while(1>2) not sound like a completely random low-effort name, it's a also a code that if you use in a program it will constantly loop whatever is inside of it, so an alternative title for the album could simply be "Forever". Anyways that's enough of my ramblings, keep up the good work as always!

I'm pretty sure Cthulhu Sleeps was removed because of a roughly 2 second vocal clip from Crash Goes Love (Yell Apella) by Loleatta Holloway. Apparently he didn't clear use for a vocal sample that is literally just a yell. Which sucks, it is one of my fave tracks from 4x4=12
Cant disagree with you more on 4x4=12. That album is Joel at his peak. My order would be: 1) While(1 Album Title Goes Here < 6) W:/2016ALBUM/ 7) Vexillology 8) Get Scraped

4x4 is breddy guud. It's the only one I've been able to afford/find on vinyl so that's neat. I also bought it at a concert so I guess that makes it special in my heart. And Cthulu sleeps and especially city in florida are wonderful. Random Album Title is the best though, 100 percent, hands down.

Neat video to come across while thinking about ranking deadmau5 albums. Here’s mine I think: 1. While (1 album title goes here < (2012) I do love this album and have a personal attachment to it. The second half especially. Has most of my favourite house/dance tracks from him. 3. For Lack of a Better Name (2009) 4. Random Album Title (2008) 5. 4x4=12 (2010) 6. Cool list I would actually like to see daft punk even though it is small. I guess you could still use all the extras like alive and daft club. But I don’t know anything sooo...
probably not gonna do Daft Punk for a long time, I'd want at least one more album from them before I consider it. as it is I don't think they'd make for that interesting a video and the "extras" don't really feel like they'd count towards a proper ranking
5. Motion 4. I Created Disco 3. 18 Months 2. Funk Wav Bounces 1. Ready For The Weekend I don’t think there’s enough insight I can add to a proper video that my reviews don’t already cover
8. Vexillology 4/10 - It's completely and justifiably overshadowed by everything else he's ever done. On its face, it's probably one of his most consistent albums, but even that just feeds into how it's his most forgettable by orders of magnitude. Sometimes the worst thing an album can be is boring - in this context, it certainly rings true. 7. W:/2016Album/ 5/10 - The pure unadulterated apathy with which this album was haphazardly thrown together is so transparent it hurts. Regardless of the actual quality of the tracklist here, the slap in the face I received from Joel with this "album" is what left the most lasting impact. There are some highlights to be found for sure, but the highs can't even compare to the lows of his best albums, the track sequencing is garbage, and the knowledge that most of these tracks had been sitting around for years just means they were outdated upon arrival. Unfortunately, this is one of few deadmau5 albums you can do completely without - but at least Snowcone came out of it. 6. Get Scraped 6/10 - It hurts to put this album so low, which should stand as a testament to the quality of the rest of Joel's body of work. Get Scraped is a great album comprised of great songs that are simply uprooted by greater songs to come. The wider range of EDM subgenres and even electronica on display are as telling of Joel's passion for electronic music as the blatant borrowing from his various influences, but due to its age and his inexperience at the time, none of it can stand up to the technological advancements and acquired expertise of his later work. Still, you should check it out if not just for the charm of it. 5. 4x4=12 (Original Release) 6/10 - This album stands as an epic and a betrayal at the same time. Its scope is certainly admirable especially for the time, trying things way outside of his comfort zone and somewhat succeeding (Raise Your Weapon somehow survives as an EDM classic) while continuing to perfect his progressive electro house craft, but the horribly obnoxious SOFI features and the mediocre dubstep flavors scattered throughout are so against deadmau5's established ethos that they are impossible to ignore. The magnitude of this album's high points (City in Florida, Cthulhu Sleeps) is the exact same as its low points (SOFI Needs a Ladder, One Trick Pony) - and, come to think of it, Raise Your Weapon serves as a perfect microcosm of this - making it the most middling deadmau5 album possible. 4. >album title goes here< 7/10 - This is another haphazardly put together album, but this time, the end result just happens to be a much better sequenced album with greater quality tracks throughout. Many well-loved Soundcloud deep cuts found their way here and are represented quite well, keeping the album consistently entertaining from front to back. And Joel's collaboration with Imogen Heap (which is really just another deep cut with added vocals) has ended up being one of his best non-house tracks he has ever released imo. This marks the first album on this list that I would consider a cut above most EDM releases. 3. For Lack of a Better Name 8/10 - I would consider this an EDM classic for Strobe alone (though Ghosts 'n' Stuff and The 16th Hour certainly help), and I think it deserves that place in the EDM canon even with its flaws. Sure, Hi Friend! has not aged well at all, and Bot and Word Problems are pretty lukewarm. That said, Soma is an underrated gem that for some inexcusable reason gets no attention in deadmau5 discussions, all in all keeping the quality of this album well above water. The album's journey from highly energetic to somberly reflective is also surprisingly well-executed, making for one of Joel's more impressive mixing feats. Despite its inconsistencies, FLoaBN is a great listen all the way through - and is obviously incredibly rewarding at the end! 2. while(1
this channel only covers electronic music there's no shortage of other reviewers out there who would do better at covering Death Grips than me, I don't even really consider myself a fan of theirs
Are you insane. 4x4 is what help give birth to the dubstep movement and overall put edm as a genre on the map as far as pop culture appeal . Hello raise ur weapon. Shouldn't be ranked so low. Anyways thanks for doing this video anyways I can always appreciate fellow EDM fan.
ok, but... dubstep was a thing long before joel even touched it. even if you ignore the long history of the genre through mid-late 2000s in the UK, if we're talking about popularizing dubstep in the US mainstream and setting EDM culture into motion as we know it I'd say Skrillex's Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites EP was way more responsible for that 4x4 is one of his best produced albums and I do understand anyone who considers it his best or just had it as their original jumping on point for him, me ranking it so low is more of a personal taste thing than anything. but still if you ask me it was really only trendsetting insofar as deadmau5 just already had so much hype at the time that literally anything he did would be influential to some degree
This is the first time I've seen any of your video reviews and will probably be my last. One thing is clear, you certainly love the sound of your own voice. To say that Deadmau5 W:/2016Album/ was put together without any thought and effort and thrown together in an hour shows a total lack of respect for Joel. All you do by making flippant comments like that is make yourself look like another stereotypical sad and pathetic 'critic' who sits in the dark wishing it was him up there in the limelight. Which, as we both know, will never happen.

There’s a new album/soundtrack he announced recently that he will be dropping on January 25th. Will you be doing a review of that album when it comes out?
if I have enough to say about it, sure. we'll see though
The Wonky Angle sounds good! So far, it seems like it will be an interesting addition to his discography. Thanks for the reply, btw.

Do Sasha and Digweed plssss
Wow. I really don’t know why people don’t like W:/2016ALBUM/. It’s more genuine electro funk to me.
My Top Favorite:
While 1
Yeah those are my top 3 too
Any chance will you be covering any four tet or luke vibert in the future?
I did review Four Tet's last album ua-cam.com/video/P07QF6Ozks4/v-deo.html and included his Live at Funkhaus Berlin album on my best albums of 2018 list ua-cam.com/video/_zmwRKJXvKY/v-deo.html
I have not covered Luke Vibert but may end up covering him if he releases a new album this year
Are you ever going to do an Autechre discography review?
yes. probably this year but we'll see how things play out
@@TheWonkyAngle nice! I'll be looking forward to it!
Honestly surprised that your top 3 are mine as well, although that might be a testament to their quality.
Can you review something from Ceephax (Acid Crew)?
Do the Chemical Brothers worst to best!
I will eventually do this one, yes
2:34 oh god that voice crack
I love all of his albums but I don't care as much for most of While 1
1. 4x4=12
2. album title goes here
3. While 1
ngl telemiscommunications might be my favorite deadmau5 song of all time
for lack of a better name is his best continuious mix
Where are the mau5ville albums
Cool list
I would actually like to see daft punk even though it is small. I guess you could still use all the extras like alive and daft club. But I don’t know anything sooo...
probably not gonna do Daft Punk for a long time, I'd want at least one more album from them before I consider it. as it is I don't think they'd make for that interesting a video and the "extras" don't really feel like they'd count towards a proper ranking
careless reference in description :)
Do FSOL worst to best pls!
He looks like the perfect example of a edm listener
4:22 nice reference
Can you please do Orbital & Kraftwerk? I literally got into these two bands because of you. Now i'm a big fan of both of them. :)
I'm not sure what my favorite deadmau5 album is because I haven't listened to him in a while
While > Lack > Random > 4x4

You should pimp your room a little bit... also would be nice a better image and audio for your videos plzzzz love from Colombia ✨✨✨

My whole life i thought it was Aware just with a 4 to look cool! OMG
Please do Mr. Oizo next, he is an interesting guy.
Bro you should review death grips. You'd be pretty good at it.
this channel only covers electronic music
there's no shortage of other reviewers out there who would do better at covering Death Grips than me, I don't even really consider myself a fan of theirs
Do Kraftwerk (if it hasn't already been done)
Favorite album by far is random album title
Mau5 is bae 👁👅👁
Hell yes!
One Trick Pony is banger I don’t care what anyone says 😆
There is no bad album by Joel
do this for autechre!
I’d want to properly review their albums individually before I do that :)
funny how a guy who makes videos with primary school editing says a guy who streams night long music production sessions puts no effort in
funny how a guy who's uploaded just one video that just shows stock footage of monkeys mirrored & reversed is lecturing me on editing
@@TheWonkyAngle i was waiting for this
Are you insane. 4x4 is what help give birth to the dubstep movement and overall put edm as a genre on the map as far as pop culture appeal . Hello raise ur weapon. Shouldn't be ranked so low. Anyways thanks for doing this video anyways I can always appreciate fellow EDM fan.
ok, but... dubstep was a thing long before joel even touched it. even if you ignore the long history of the genre through mid-late 2000s in the UK, if we're talking about popularizing dubstep in the US mainstream and setting EDM culture into motion as we know it I'd say Skrillex's Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites EP was way more responsible for that
4x4 is one of his best produced albums and I do understand anyone who considers it his best or just had it as their original jumping on point for him, me ranking it so low is more of a personal taste thing than anything. but still if you ask me it was really only trendsetting insofar as deadmau5 just already had so much hype at the time that literally anything he did would be influential to some degree
@@TheWonkyAngle agreed. I always forget about Skrillex. Also I do agree with ur number 1 ranking. Favorite song is bleed.
Keep these coming I enjoyed this video
Look i'ts harry fucking potter
dude is literally: 🤓
This is the first time I've seen any of your video reviews and will probably be my last. One thing is clear, you certainly love the sound of your own voice. To say that Deadmau5 W:/2016Album/ was put together without any thought and effort and thrown together in an hour shows a total lack of respect for Joel.
All you do by making flippant comments like that is make yourself look like another stereotypical sad and pathetic 'critic' who sits in the dark wishing it was him up there in the limelight. Which, as we both know, will never happen.
