    7:38 My guess for the black bricks is that Clermond Ferrand is in a volcanic region. The cathedral is a very famous all black "evil-looking" for example

    • @bluelonden
      @bluelonden 10 місяців тому

      This is true, the cathedral is made of lava stone and so are some of the houses
      Edit: Wanted to add that there are in fact dormant volcanoes in this area. The national park is called "Chaîne des Puys" and it is a dormant volcanic field

    For the 11:10 round, you are in the massif central region wich is an old mountain range (as million years old) so it is has rolling hills but no peaks, a lot of granite (rocks that are also used for walls in Brittany), quite grassy and very rural. Britanny is an even older mountain so it is very much flatter but it as the same kind of rocks used for walls and roofs. In this round you could see some elevation which made it much more likely for massif central. Also there are many small villages there like the one where you are that don't look like elsewhere in France. I think the architecture of the church in the North is also typical with this type of roof, fat walls where you can see granite rocks in the corners and around windows but that are plain with white/cream color for the most part (this is very typical of that region).
    So to sum up : more elevation, more rural (think small farms and old people between hills), and some different architecture.
    Also you can often see exposed granite rocks in the landscape and granite bridges or crosses there.
    Massif central is a beautiful region.
    edit : the vegetation should also be much more southern, the trees you saw after moving are common in the south/southeast much more than in Brittany which has very green and lush greenery
    Actually you got quite a lot of massif central rounds that you often missed, 17:05 is another good example with granite, hills and rural feel, and the place where you guessed isn't really mountainous like that.

    9:13 *Breton* language. It's a celtic language most closely related to Cornish :)
    In my experience, Cordyline australis (palms) are found in the Brittany/Nantes area, along the Western coast.

    A good thing to notice is the steepness of roofs. The more the roof is steep, the more it rains in this region. North and britanny are the most rainy regions and basically the southern you go the less it rains

    for the 11:04 round the following things strike me 1) the ribbed corners of the houses - i associate this with south west france, 2) the style of the shutters - feels southern 3) the style of the church, again it looks quite southern

    That’s called the “diagonale du vide” (empty diagonal). The Wikipedia entry is interesting. It’s the section of France with very low population density, and everything looks a bit the same. Between Toulouse and Bordeaux in the south, going all the way up to Metz. Makes identification somewhat difficult.

    Very excited to see this. I'm trying to get the #1 record in every department, so I grinded on France for years. And it's my country.
    Not gonna lie, I'm very lucky to have been everywhere with my trucker dad, thanks to this I know hundreds of cities. But the years of Geoguessr France ? Almost no improvement haha

    Hello, regarding black roofs, I think the ones that are found in the center of the country would have distingly thicker and larger slates, if that makes sense

    • @martinthb5284
      @martinthb5284 Рік тому

      In général, I would say not only the colour, but also the "texture" of the roofs, the type of material can be quite indicative, plus any type of black metal roof on houses will be to modern to fit into the black versus red roof meta.

    I feel like you would learn better using such an extensive guide if for the first couple of rounds you analyzed them using the guide simultaneously (like "cheating") so you get a better understanding and once you feel ready you play normally.

    Where can I get guides for other countries like the one you showed in the video? It was extremely helpful and better than most common resources available.
