this is just the video i needed, i’m just starting out but am nervous to start listing as i wasn’t sure if all my cards were worth listing, I feel pretty good about the box of postcards i bought now thank you.
@@SMPostcards When I do unboxings, I point the camera down on a table. It's much easier on the arms! You could also just have viewers assume cards are average unless you say differently, because that was a lot of talking too, lol.
Yea my setup would take a little work to get a top down shot the way I have it set for now. Talking is ok for me as it keeps me entertained :). I will keep it in mind as I might be making some changes in the future for videos. Thanks
Thanks! Well I do not do many Christmas or Birthday cards unless very ornate etc. There is just so many of them. I did sell a Santa Christmas Card for $1,900.00 last year I have a video here on it ua-cam.com/video/PALV3R_ydPE/v-deo.html. It is what is called a "Hold to the Light Postcard". So some can be special, but what I have found most are not. Look for Santa's that are not Red like Blue and Brown. Hope this helps.
Can you throw out some tips on selling at a flea market? I think I have enough cards now that would qualify. How do you group them? Do you have a set price? How many do you show? Is it worth it? Any tips would help. Thanks and love ur videos
I normally do not setup boxes at the Flea Market, but I can tell you what I have seen when hunting for postcards at Flea Markets. Other can add to it as well here. 1.) Sorted Cards i.e. State, Military etc. 2.) Table with Chairs at the right height. 3.) Little baskets to put cards in as I find ones I want 4.) Clear easy pricing displayed 5.) Volume discounts 6.) Not in the Hot Sun!! Extra Credit I like lot buys saves time and money for both seller and buyer. That is just some things I can think of. Also if have any local Postcards to the area your setup at lay them out on the table and price accordingly :) Expect people to sit and go thru them for a long while. Hope this helps.
@@SMPostcards Common cards are fine with me. I want a full store of commons so when I list the good ones, people will buy commons as filler. I am tired of seeing DC, Niagara, Yellowstone and Mount Vernon though.
Older the better! Train Depots, Train Stations, People on the trains etc. Newer chromes 4-6.00 mostly. Make sure to put the train numbers in the listing title or description if possible.
@SMPostcards Thanks so much, Mark! Got about 2000 train cards (Chrome and pre chrome) from a mutual friend and was curious about your thoughts, so thanks a bunch, Mark!! Time to get listing 😁
There are so many different ways to sell postcards! My model is Divided back down to chromes and Novelty Postcards. My friends sells just RRPCs and another just Divided backs and up etc. I grew up with the more modern ones and can relate more with them, but will sell others if I find them cheap enough. Thanks for watching.
Yes some can go for high $ a lot are just average. Search eBay Solds for "Tuck Postcards" and sort by Highest Price and you will see the ones that sell for high dollars.
I know one seller that has reactivated his Delcampe account and starting to put cards up again. It is I believe a Netherlands based site so a lot of foreign buyer and sellers.
For an item listed at $4.75, with shipping, shipping supplies, and ~29.5% in eBay fees/tax you are left with around $1.50. If you then deduct the cost of about 10-25 cents a card (need to also account for money spent on cards that were unlistable), income tax, and about 15% of the resulting profit being put away for growth, you are left with about $1.06 income. So if most of the cards are producing about $1.06 net income and take 5 minutes of time, wouldn't that land you at about $12.72 an hour if every card listed sells? I know your business is based on volume, for sure, I'm just trying to guage if my lens is about accurate. My job's low wage after income tax in my area would be $17.60, which is enough to get by. But I feel my estimated totals might be a little off. You seem like a figures guy, so I thought I might get a response with a due diligence post.
If I sell 80.00 a day in postcards (gross sales) that is about 30,000.00 a year. If I look to have 40% profit at the end when everything is paid it is around 12,000.00 profit a year. I would put about 1,000.00 a month in my pocket. I'm part time and retired so this is a side gig for me. Also some cards sell for more than 4.75 and I purchase cards for a really low price like pennies.
@@SMPostcards It would be so cool if you could break down the figures on that 60% expense. I'm having some difficulty figuring out how to get the $4.75 listing price to above a 22.3% profit. I think it is absolutely AWESOME that you are so transparent about your business, I hope the channel generates a significant return for you too because it is so beneficial seeing someone run a business in the open like this.
Anytime! I don't do anything special or have the special secret. I'm just an average seller and have been doing it long enough to know what to buy and keep my head above water :). Some months are tougher than others and some months I do really really well. There is money to be made in postcards. Good luck!
Oh i'm the worse with proper names and words! Always in the dog house for that I will try and do better! No promises tho :). My brother in law was a 20 year submariner (if that is what they are called) and he calls the surface ships Targets!
@@SMPostcards No biggie! I went and looked up definitions and the most common simple explanation is that a boat is small, and if it gets big enough to carry another boat then it's a ship. In other words, if it ships something it's a ship.

Thanks for doing this! Would love to see more of these. It's a bit different than the way I process my incoming cards.
Well I got some more unopened boxes and once I get the feeling back in my arms from this one, I might do another one :)

May I ask what those waves are going by on the screen next to you, the red and orange ones?

I would have thought that 90 percent of those would have been unlistable. I guess I am not a fan of modern postcards.
