Burning Man 2022 😈 EXODUS FROM HELL 🔥 Waking Dreams

- If you took 2022 off of Burnin Man it probably wasn’t a bad idea. The weather was absolutely terrible half of the week was white out with intense winds. But if you think you’ve had enough apply and you wanna go home good luck! This year‘s exodus from burning man was the worst I have ever seen. Some people waited 12 hours in the blistering sun just to get 3 miles from the city to the highway. This traffic jam was one for the world records!
This is the story of my friends and I trying to get home from Black Rock City it started out pretty bad but we made the best of it and the trip ended up being a voyage to heaven in Lake Tahoe mountains

I've heard tickets are around $500 to go to an event to hate on capitalism. It's unreal.
I do agree with the barter system I don’t know if I could deal with the dust storms and the heat …
@@jerrodbeck1799 My buddy worked at a coffee stand there, and payment was the customer would slap his ass. Not sure if thats actually a fair trade. I can't just show up at my credit union, slap the bank teller on the ass and tell her to put it towards my auto loan. Money is just barter system, only they don't teach us about it in schools.
@@jerrodbeck1799 It's not a barter system, it's a gift economy. In a barter system, you give something and get something in return. In the gift economy you give what you can, not expecting anything in return.
I’ve been to burning man 10 times and I never understand why people complain about the tickets being around $500. Keep in mind that’s for 5 to 10 days at a festival that will blow your mind, let’s see what you get for $500 elsewhere. Let’s see… A 90 minute hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley, or perhaps your $500 would be better spent on a ticket for a 4-hour Rolling Stones concert? And what does that $500 ticket get you? A seat that is 47 rows from the stage, make sure to bring your binoculars or you can just watch the giant big screen during the whole concert, if you’re going to do that why not just spend $12 and buy a used DVD of a Rolling Stones concert and watch it at home on your own big giant screen TV? You get what you pay for, I’ve had Years of burning Man that was so cool I would’ve gladly paid $2000 for a ticket, it’s all relative you get what you pay for. Keep drinking your three buck chuck but at least you should poured into an empty wine bottle that cost more than that, if you’re a fan of tequila why not try Patron tequila… You know it’s a $12 tequila and a $50 bottle.
@@winks2910 money is just barter as well. People give their workplace their time in exchange for money. If you want more money, get a higher paying job. Get a side job, get into investments, buy a rental property, etc.
I've been wanting to experience a Burning Man for years now, so I have been watching YT vids to gain a better knowledge of how and what to prepare for...seems doable, nothing that patience wouldn't cure! Thanks for the vid!
Wait til you have to do exodus! For me driving alone it was 8 hours of HELL!
Who would’ve thought that desert would have been that hot and dusty?
Good to have a positive outlook bro. Sometimes accidents happen and people want to blame someone. I'm sure no one wanted anyone to suffer. Sadly this life is as such and our attitude to adversity is where we can have our nobility. Thanks for sharing.
Wow beautiful words , thank you for this. Blessings to you. Always try to stay positive no matter what the situation
Well Spoken. God Bless
The thing is they want you to hurry and leave we kept hearing no one could be there Tuesday morning. Was in line same time as you haha😂😂
You had really mastered the skills in videography. Film editing is par excellence!!
Maria thank you so much!! There is so much footage from this year’s burning man it’s overwhelming to go through but I’m excited to make a few more videos soon
Everybody gets a gold sticker for surviving that!!
Yeah, i was there. Super hot, super tired. Thanks for sharing. Nice capture.
4:45 _"Don't Go!... to Burning Man."_
No problem.
I’d just stay an extra day or two
right ?! Pack a few extra days worth of food and drinks..and wait it out 🤔
Digging the beat from the tune over the Tahoe segment (curious what song it is). Glad to have ya'll back in the world... wondering how to solve the exodus problem and the offset burden that migration has on the supporting communities. Peace and love to everybody on the journey though.
Went to Burning Mam in the 90s , it was an experience … way too many people nowadays doesn’t seem the same
I bet the small group of ppl that started this are like what kinda monster did we create….
My friend and I left my camp Chil Ville at 4:30 & Esplanade after the Man burn. Approximately 11:00 pm or so. Took 30 minutes maybe less to hit the highway and breezed all the way through Gerlach and to Sparks. We rested and had breakfast in morning and drove to Santa Cruz. Nice and best Exodus. Although was the most grueling week at burn out of 4 burns.
I left just after the man burn. I'm glad that I did.
I have worked at the DPW west side Collexodus station for 17 burns, this was the worst traffic I have seen leave yet...
Really bad dust storms too!
:D I thought leaving Mon am would be the smart move but even that didn't hold us from 8+hrs wait...
Also, we used some of your tips for my first burn from your previous videos - so thank you!
Do you play buggeng?
I have tried buggeng! It’s cool but very tricky for me I didn’t really take to it. Double staff and poi are my main flow tools
We stayed until Wednesday. It was a 5 minute exodus. That’s l now my plan every year.
Do you think if I left Friday Morning, it would be the same?
Incredible footage and story. Now that we are into the festival life, in our mid-50's, something new to us, my wife and I understand Burning Man a bit more. Just 5 years ago, I would have called you all, "fools," and that's being kind. Now, we get it. It's about community and love. However, my wife does NOT camp 😆and if there was ever a glimpse of hope that one day we would attend the Burn, this probably solidified that NO, we can't do this 😁I will not be showing this to my wife! Thank you.
My mom says the SAMe THING! “MAMA DOESNT CAMP!”
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial We did rent an RV (that was dropped off) in 2019 and this year, for the ABGT Weekender at the Gorge, so it's doable, or, "camp(able)" LOL, but I think it's more about the heat. My wife is a daisy 😆
A few questions for you'll. So to exit the desert landscape you pass through a gate? This gate is controlled/operated by who? How large is said gate, how many vehicles may exit side by side at once? These are for my own intrest and by no means any official capacity at all. Hoping someone can shed some light my way if possible. Thanx.
The “gate” is just what they call the entrance to the main hwy. it’s like 1 lane each direction and they funnel probably ten rows of thousands of cars through that one lane “gate” to the hwy
haha, my exodus on Sunday night in 2022 took 13 hours. watching this i'm reminded why i'm coming home for my 19th burn in a few weeks: i'm nuts!
Wow fire I love it
“I just want to slap a hippie.” 🤣😂🤣

I’m glad you all had a good time, kudos for your patience.
After "Burning Man 2023"... there is a new definition of
"Exodus from hell"
Hahaha
Great video. Thank you for sharing your experience with exodus. Uno cards help during the wait. I always have a lot of food and drinks left over so we feed and hydrate the dusty crestfallen in line with us. Brings everyone a little joy. I like that she made cookies for everyone. What a great idea. If you're coming out this year - stop by FrothVille and say hi 9:45 & Esplanade. I'm Playa Fairy Godmother BTW
2019, I left Monday when time to pavement was 4 hrs but ended up taking 8 hrs 30 min.
2022 burn, I left on Tuesday 10am and only took 40 mins to the pavement
So are you aloud to leave before they do the burn so you dont wait in line? I know thats prolly messed up but waiting that long isnt possible for me. Like if you left Sunday morning?
yes you can leave at any time.
The thing is, this can be avoided, but it takes tough displine. FOMO and obligation make it hard to leave early. When I first started going, I would leave Tuesday after helping with tear down of a camp with major infrastructure. Then one year, 2013, BMIR announced rain and I didn't want to get stuck in the muck, so I left at 5am Monday and waited 7 hours in line on playa. The last pulse, my car wouldn't start. That was my last time to formally participate in Larry's party in the desert.
I've been to 14 Burns..
Always always leave on Tuesday
LEGEND and Brilliant ✨
Wake up, Cinderella, your pumpkin's here.
So much fun. 😮
Lol, I left playa on Wednesday after finishing teardown on a big art project, and it took me two hours to go from getting in my car to checking into my hotel in Reno.
Next year I think I’m gonna do what you did and volunteer to tear down some art better exit plan and I get to help
Don't be haters, everyone has their ...this blows my hair back ,buckets of rain or long lines don't change they willbe back next time ,I would
Yep we left camp on Monday at 11:58 am and didn’t hit the road until 10:58 pm!!! 11 hours later!
That's really weird. We left monday like at 10 am and it took us a little less than 6 hrs to get to the gate. Maybe we were lucky
You were lucky! That was one of the best times to leave
I feel like playing the Exodus theme song by Ferrante & Teicher.
Exodus is always gnarly.
Amazing experience thx guys
A stop sign was added right before Gerlach.
They need to hire a team to coordinate the exit. It’s not difficult. Upon entrance, you tell everyone, we will allow only one row at a time to exit. Do not try to leave until we confirm your row can go.
I can't believe it wow
Insane
I have a friend that went this year, but, can someone explain the appeal to me in a way I'll understand? He hasn't mentioned much of why he went, just what he did. To me it seems like a rave in the desert, where you need to haul your own water, food, and illegal things. It doesn't seem like a safe or good idea to me; being awake for 14 hours trying to drive after partying for a week is a recipe for disaster. Also, how do you not run out of gas in the middle of the desert or idling for that long?
Best way to beat traffic at Burning Man is to not go.
Great video! We left at 1:30p Monday and waited for 12 hours in the exodus line! Turned out to be a blessing that led to a fun and beautiful ride back home ❤
Right! We all try to make the best of it. Glad you made it back safely
MORONS.
No thank you.
I actually like this story of the exodus. As bad as it sucked for everyone waiting. It was a story that needed to be told. If you wanted, how long could you have stayed? The water in tahoe is just above freezing. I guess after 100+ heat, that water felt awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this comment! The water is cold in the deep of the lake but at this shallow beach cove during a heat wave it was in the high 60s !
The exodus was long but we made the best of it
yeah I don't even stand in a line at my grocery store are you kidding me ?
New comment, I think you guys should NOT BURN! this year of 2023, because I have see to much trash all around the fence line from other u'tubers, and we had way to many fires! If state approves it, we will have to stop it unfortunately.
“We “ will have to stop it? Whom do you represent? The fires at burning man are permitted controlled burns with fire safety blm present
I've never been to burning Man I've always wanted to but after washing your video at the dust storms and the traffic I am rethinking about going to burning Man does not look very organized..... Thanks for posting
It is organized. I’ve been to 4 burns and this was the grueling one. All my others have been great during the week there. You should still go. 70,000 people and everyone’s is unique. Don’t let this video deter you.
I was in the line on Sunday night. You all have no idea. I wish we would have waited a day cause it was absolutely a point in my life where I said “I think we may die.” Only because of how exhausted everyone was and the unsafe conditions. People were speeding around other people passed out in their cars. 14 hours of hell is an understatement. We had 1-2 hour waits with 2-3 minutes of demolition derby. After maybe the 11th hour my husbands screams turned to sobs. I would have as well but I was so focused on keeping awake and alive for the eventual pulses. I definitely have some trauma. I was driving off road recently and I was getting flashbacks and had to stop and shake it off. Can’t believe I have PTSD from Burning Man but here I am.
Sorry, but PTSD from Burning Man made me laugh, actually shot iced tea out my nose. But then again I wasn’t there. Hope you’re doing better now.
I don't understand the road conditions. What stops people from just riding off around the edges?
You poor little thing!!
6 hours leaving on Sunday morning for us
This dry lake bed was about 600ft/183m deep and dried from the WarnerMts on the west rising from faults cutting off the rain ... really fast, up to 15.5cm/6" a year 👈 for a while left scarps on the west end of SmokeCreek Desert.
There are habitation sites at certain strand lines, I've bicycle toured BlackRock Desert end to end both ways, it's a different experience. These people left footprints in WhiteSandsNP 21ky-23ky ago.
Cheers 🍺
Wow thank you very much for this information I bet that was a cool ride blessings to you Friend
F T S Go to work pay your taxes 🤡
Why on earth would people put themselves in this position in the first place?
Nutz
You guys got 'lucky'. We left on Monday afternoon and spent about 11-12 hours on exodus.
In that crazy heat! Your a legend my friend
Nice to see it in real
Good video. Thanks.
What a total sh!tshow. With 1/10th of the participants something like this may be fun, but what it has become is insane.
Traffic in the desert i am sure 4×4 can avoid all that kaos😂
So, pro tip. either leave early or late. I actually leave on tuesday. Plan for an extra day!
Propane party Monday night! And leave Tuesday morning
Such a shame there wasn't the propane party this year, though by the time I left the dj set at the manpile it looked like a rogue burnoff was assembling
It's a beautiful place about 11 months of the year.
I'd love to attend this event but the earth doesn't need it.
2017 was really bad too
I was at Burning Man in 2007. I left the night the man burned. After the man was burnt, I left. There were very few cars on the road.
I always have to stay for the temple burn it is special to me
How is the CO2 count for this ?
Stay two days longer and avoid the crush of exodus. It's that simple.
Ya, and it will give you the opportunity to clean up the play area.
Wonder where they get the fuel gasoline and diesel
So glad I went mushroom hunting in White Mountains instead!!!
I'd rather have pins inserted in my eyes than go to this shit fight.
Hahahah
The entire event is stressed like EVERYTHING else from excessive excessive humans. All things are destroyed by excessive participation. The ugly human. Burning man effigy should be dedicated to the excess and over population.
Bill Gates wants his books back
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial eight billion . Get the number. Beyond the abilities of human thinking in increments. Zip up the pants.
Where dobu get gas? If u run out?
They sell gas on playa but it’s a big hassle and expensive. I bring 10 gallons in containers just for generators and Incase I run out.
They “pulse” which means everybody moves, then turns off cars for 45 mins then moves again. It helps reduce people from running out of gas
They pluse the traffic, when u stop u shut your ride off, well that's what I did.
I’ve been in that kind of exodus a few times unfortunately. It’s always disappointing to hear people start to honk their horns, they do it as though they’re already back in the default world. The key is to leave super early or just stay an extra day or two. I know many people can’t because of their work schedule, especially teachers who are rushing back to start their fall quarter somewhere or catch an airline flight back to another country. For a festival that is supposed to be so chill, it sure isn’t chill when people are having to wait in the long line for countless hours wasting gas. The good, the bad, and the ugly, black rock city is all that and naturally, it should be
i left sat just prior to sunrise............no line..............at all
I wonder how the E cars did waiting
I wouldn’t take my Prius there… one year a buddy of mine drove a Prius to playa.. he tried to sit in the AC for a few minutes and it killed his battery… It’s not a normal battery you can just jump start in the car stayed on Playa for a month costing an arm and a leg to tow out
Pershing County ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
What a fukkin shitshow.....I might have lost my mind to just wait like that.
Poor lake
Definitely looks like hell!
It was formulated and organized by the minions of hell thus the name "burning man" in which they divulge their ultimate objective.
Not a single electric car can do burning man. Good luck Californians on your 100% EV goal in 2030.
Haha 😂 in 2030 my 1989 Chevy g20 van will still be coming. To playa
Only 6 hours? Awesome. We did 12 after leaving 10:30am Monday. We win!
Exodus champs!!! 🏆
Leave right after the burn.. No gridlock.
Can someone explain whats burning man, staying in the hot area just to go to a city or what? Im lost
It is camping in a place that can kill you, it is not only surviving but also thriving. The problem is that 80,000 is too many on the small roads to and from the desert. So, don't go because Burning Man is too hot and dusty.
If you don't know this happens then you don't know burning man.
It does happen. This is my second exodus through hell. This year was definitely the longest and most extreme though it’s a dice roll and if you can leave at a perfect time
You going to the burn this year?!
Yes!! I’ll be camped at 4 & Esplanade. New burning man prep video coming out today!
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Yay! Thanks for the tips in the new vid. I'll definitely come by! I'm at 745 Esplanade. Would love to talk about starting playing with 🔥 if you have any time!
Those cookies looked horrible
Hahaha normally they would be terrible. But In that moment they tasted like heaven. I hadn’t had a cookie in days most of our camping food and snacks were gone by this point In the week.
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Haha trust me I've been there.
What rubbish ..it was just magic , and leaving was part of the journey ! I was 7 hours in the line and we had so much fun like most others around us
Honestly I just love that you said the word rubbish I need to use this word more
This video is more burning man than people even understand ..... its not always fun and games ....its the journey in and the journey out.
I love having multiple days after burn to just chill. (yes its still fun and games i dont know how to explain the feels)
You definitely need a few days to decompress after it’s smart to take an extra day off work or two
That's crazy burning man should move to another place
Jesus Christ is the sacrifice that saves. All other paths lead to null.
😂😂😂 I literally just drove around all those cars and left nothing is stopping anyone from leaving just go.
welcome to the hurricane Rita evacuation.
Well I would tear that gate down
😂
I went to this of last year it was the most worst experience ever I've lost my camera while there i was trying to go home and got stopped immediately I got infuriated already I couldn't go home at all I couldn't stay there at all that was a disaster itself let alone be waiting for hours to get home I was tired of it this shows how ridiculous that event was that was a nightmare I'll never go to burning man concert ever again
Have you seen the concert lineup this year? Better than Coachella!
@@relefuntreally?
1:11 How do you sleep in the extreme heat, You do not You collapse.
It was hard to sleep this year. Next year I will bring an air conditioner and somehow put it in my vans window connected to a generator
There needs to be a new and better location for burning man
This year the dust and heat were out of control. For all the fun the burning man was A lot of us veterans are debating if it’s worth it next year
I waited zero min... don't leave when everyone else does. Be patient. Easy.
Smart man 🤔
Just curious, what time did you leave?
I get it's all volunteer work but BM needs to hire professionals. I waited 9 hours to get out.
Wow 9 hours 😮
I don't think the amateur status of the volunteers is the issue. It's that there's really only one viable exit route, most of it is only 1 lane, and that 1 lane often gets compromised by accidents, broken-down vehicles, etc. The only (realistic) way to improve the situation would be to traffic control Rd 34 and convince a significant amount of burners to take the "long scenic route" and exit NORTH on Rd 34 to go up past Fly Ranch and wind their way up to Cedarville. Then you could have 2 exit roads running for northbound and southbound traffic. But that would easily become a shitshow when people inevitably turn around to drive southbound. Another option could be to build up an exit road to the south which could cross the railroad tracks and link up to Rd 49... but that would create a bottleneck where it merges with 447 between Gerlach & Empire. Very few would go north to catch 1-80. The vast majority of burners are trying to go south / west, so trying to route any to the north / east would be futille.
@@Kampy_ yeah it a hard problem to solve. I was thinking like an 'exit ticket' where before you go you choose a time to leave and get fast tracked if you leave at that time. Everyone can't leave at the same time.
@@Kampy_ your comment sounded like a version of ' The Californian's ' skit from SNL!
@@icuinthelightLOL - The Californians is hilarious because it's true- a lot of us sound like that, especially Angelenos. And we're "experts" on traffic flow because we spend half our lives looking at maps trying to figure out how to avoid traffic and find the secret shortcut nobody else has figured out yet
Yikes
wow
Don't pay to go to a desert, is better a swimming pool party
Tron has some common sense .. If you do come to Burnin Man you better bring the light cycle
At home selling insurance... Those Hung Over especially from Alcohol must of been dieing lol
yeah but...this happens EVERY year, so they should all be used to it by now, right? One assumes it's like funnelling molasses through a really tiny opening. I'm sure BM is fun, but getting in and out have got to be a nightmare. They're literally moving an entire city of what, 60,000? 70,000 people?
It’s like 70,000 + a few thousands more for staff and volunteers . 2022 was the worst out of five years I’ve exited that desert
ummmm......yeah.....I think I will pass on this
