  • If you took 2022 off of Burnin Man it probably wasn’t a bad idea. The weather was absolutely terrible half of the week was white out with intense winds. But if you think you’ve had enough apply and you wanna go home good luck! This year‘s exodus from burning man was the worst I have ever seen. Some people waited 12 hours in the blistering sun just to get 3 miles from the city to the highway. This traffic jam was one for the world records!
    This is the story of my friends and I trying to get home from Black Rock City it started out pretty bad but we made the best of it and the trip ended up being a voyage to heaven in Lake Tahoe mountains

      I’ve been to burning man 10 times and I never understand why people complain about the tickets being around $500. Keep in mind that’s for 5 to 10 days at a festival that will blow your mind, let’s see what you get for $500 elsewhere. Let’s see… A 90 minute hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley, or perhaps your $500 would be better spent on a ticket for a 4-hour Rolling Stones concert? And what does that $500 ticket get you? A seat that is 47 rows from the stage, make sure to bring your binoculars or you can just watch the giant big screen during the whole concert, if you’re going to do that why not just spend $12 and buy a used DVD of a Rolling Stones concert and watch it at home on your own big giant screen TV? You get what you pay for, I’ve had Years of burning Man that was so cool I would’ve gladly paid $2000 for a ticket, it’s all relative you get what you pay for. Keep drinking your three buck chuck but at least you should poured into an empty wine bottle that cost more than that, if you’re a fan of tequila why not try Patron tequila… You know it’s a $12 tequila and a $50 bottle.

    Incredible footage and story. Now that we are into the festival life, in our mid-50's, something new to us, my wife and I understand Burning Man a bit more. Just 5 years ago, I would have called you all, "fools," and that's being kind. Now, we get it. It's about community and love. However, my wife does NOT camp 😆and if there was ever a glimpse of hope that one day we would attend the Burn, this probably solidified that NO, we can't do this 😁I will not be showing this to my wife! A few questions for you'll. So to exit the desert landscape you pass through a gate? This gate is controlled/operated by who? How large is said gate, how many vehicles may exit side by side at once? These are for my own intrest and by no means any official capacity at all. Hoping someone can shed some light my way if possible. Thanx.

When I first started going, I would leave Tuesday after helping with tear down of a camp with major infrastructure. Then one year, 2013, BMIR announced rain and I didn't want to get stuck in the muck, so I left at 5am Monday and waited 7 hours in line on playa. The last pulse, my car wouldn't start. To me it seems like a rave in the desert, where you need to haul your own water, food, and illegal things. It doesn't seem like a safe or good idea to me; being awake for 14 hours trying to drive after partying for a week is a recipe for disaster. Also, how do you not run out of gas in the middle of the desert or idling for that long?

    I was in the line on Sunday night. You all have no idea. I wish we would have waited a day cause it was absolutely a point in my life where I said “I think we may die.” Only because of how exhausted everyone was and the unsafe conditions. People were speeding around other people passed out in their cars. 14 hours of hell is an understatement. We had 1-2 hour waits with 2-3 minutes of demolition derby. After maybe the 11th hour my husbands screams turned to sobs. I would have as well but I was so focused on keeping awake and alive for the eventual pulses. I definitely have some trauma. I was driving off road recently and I was getting flashbacks and had to stop and shake it off. Can’t believe I have PTSD from Burning Man but here I am.

    I’ve been in that kind of exodus a few times unfortunately. It’s always disappointing to hear people start to honk their horns, they do it as though they’re already back in the default world. The key is to leave super early or just stay an extra day or two. I know many people can’t because of their work schedule, especially teachers who are rushing back to start their fall quarter somewhere or catch an airline flight back to another country. For a festival that is supposed to be so chill, it sure isn’t chill when people are having to wait in the long line for countless hours wasting gas. The good, the bad, and the ugly, black rock city is all that and naturally, it should be

      It is camping in a place that can kill you, it is not only surviving but also thriving. The problem is that 80,000 is too many on the small roads to and from the desert. So, don't go because Burning Man is too hot and dusty.

      Wow 9 hours 😮

    • @Kampy_
      @Kampy_ Рік тому +3

      I don't think the amateur status of the volunteers is the issue. It's that there's really only one viable exit route, most of it is only 1 lane, and that 1 lane often gets compromised by accidents, broken-down vehicles, etc. The only (realistic) way to improve the situation would be to traffic control Rd 34 and convince a significant amount of burners to take the "long scenic route" and exit NORTH on Rd 34 to go up past Fly Ranch and wind their way up to Cedarville. Then you could have 2 exit roads running for northbound and southbound traffic. But that would easily become a shitshow when people inevitably turn around to drive southbound. Another option could be to build up an exit road to the south which could cross the railroad tracks and link up to Rd 49... but that would create a bottleneck where it merges with 447 between Gerlach & Empire. Very few would go north to catch 1-80. The vast majority of burners are trying to go south / west, so trying to route any to the north / east would be futille.

    • @mathlover2299
      @mathlover2299 Рік тому

      @@Kampy_ yeah it a hard problem to solve. I was thinking like an 'exit ticket' where before you go you choose a time to leave and get fast tracked if you leave at that time. Everyone can't leave at the same time.
