This song is a masterpiece! and yes, Gacharic Spin should be experienced live! Nice reaction!
(in my humble opinion they're the best rock band around)

Thanks John - this one is always a fun follow up to Mindset. - the growls and song change up are great for a reaction. As always really enjoy you picking out the chords/melodies and demonstrations you do on the piano/guitar (especially picking out Oreo's keyboard in this case).

Excellent reaction, didn't even notice the 30 minutes go by I was so engrossed
You mentioned they have a slightly prog feel to them, I was listening to a new song of theirs called "Lin-Lin-Lan" earlier today and I was thinking the only way I could describe it was "prog-pop"
They are an all around superb band, sadly they seem to fly under many peoples radars, perhaps their very unique blend of styles and highly technical and idiosyncratic songwriting isn't for everyone, but those who can appreciate what they do tend to be hardcore fans
The studio version of the song does leverage all the vocals of the members, it written with the idea of interleaving/overlaid vocals from multiple members
This is an idea Gacharic Spin started explored many years ago in side-project DOLL$BOXX with vocalist Fuki where several songs feature counterpoint backing vocals by Hana (on drums) and Oreo (on keys) interleaving with Fuki's lead vocal lines
Oreo is an extremely tasteful pianist, she had played in a band called Eu-Phoria with Gacharic Spin guitarist Tomo-zo from 2005-2009 when Eu-Phoria broke up. Tomo-zo went on to join Gacharic Spin shortly after it's formation while Oreo had stepped away from music, but a few years later she was called in to do some live support keys for Gacharic Spin, eventually becoming a full time member in 2012
IV-V-vi-I, or VI-VII-i-III, never sure which way of thinking of that chord progression is more commonly accepted, and variants on it are extremely popular in Japanese music. You will hear it, and variations on it, littered all over the place, often spiced up with modulations, inversions, or some leading note diminished/secondary dominants like you picked up on in the intro

Hana, the original drummer, is a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist in addition to being a vocalist she can also play drums, guitar, and bass at performance level, as well as a handful other other instruments less well (including household items, she got bored during lockdown). Prior to being in Gacharic Spin (she is a founding member) she was in a few bands where she played bass or guitar and sang, so it isn't really surprising that she that she could transition from one role to another. While all members contribute to the songs she is a large part of how they sound composition wise.
Yuri, the new drummer, is also a multi-instrumentalist, in addition to drums she can also play guitar and sing. While Yuri is the official drummer there are times when Hana does play drums; in addition to Yuri's maternity leave, during part of 10th anniversary show they had 2 drum kits on stand, in a recently released live video Hana played the drum kit while Yuri played an electronic drum pad and sang, there may be other times but not all of them documented on video (rumour says she played guitar in one of the live shows but I'm not sure of that).
Also the Older Sisters (the members that have been in the band a long time: Koga (F, 2009), Hana (F, 2009), Tomo-zo (2009) and Oreo (2012)) have a side project with Fuki (at the time the vocalist of Light Bringer, currently the vocalist of Unlucky Morpheus) called Doll$Boxx (Dolls Box) which has much more of a metal sound than Gacharic Spin usually does but less so than Light Bringer or Unlucky Morpheus.

I think GS is one of those bands that you just can't put a label on. The moment you think you've categorized them, they come around the corner with something completely different. And as this song impressively proves, in some cases even several times within a few minutes. :) It might be too much for many people, but I really like it. On top of that, I just like this pink-haired energy monster Angie on the microphone who always packs all her emotions into her performances. :)
And if I may say so, of course I hope it won't ever be necessary, but if the ladies should need a replacement for Oreo on the keys, they should come knocking on your door. You obviously understand their creative thought processes quite well. Only the pitch for her vocal part could be a little problematic. 🤭👍🏻

Yes, the guitars in the beginning are hard to make out (clean sound with a bit delay, offbeat upstrokes on 2 and 4 and some arpeggios thrown in, panned extreme left/right).
They usually have the same vocal arrangement in the studio and live versions. This was the first album where they specifically composed/arranged for the 3 main vocalists to be featured in the same song/verse/phrase. This is now a staple of theirs, I hope you get to some stuff of their new EP Ace, where it's getting even more creative LOL
Tomo-Zo uses unison bends in a lot of her solos, she can shred, but mostly emphasizes melodies in her solos.
Koga will always will play a lot of stuff on bass but always serves the song.
Angie (the pink haired vocalist) said, that she needs to connect on a personal level with the lyrics, so you will always see her express everything with all she got.
GS usually has their live performances of songs almost identical to the studio versions (coming from a time, where they had to use backing tracks, which they don't do a lot anymore). So you actually could watch the studio version first and on the analytical run through, you could switch to a live performance.
    Cheers :)

Thanks for a great review/analysis. And yes, the vocals are pretty much the same on the studio version as they are here. I think the situation where you get main vocalist doing the backing vocals in studio as well, is when other band members aren't really that vocally talented 😁, but this isn't really an issue for GS. Technically GS doesn't really have a main vocalist (they only did right in the beginning, but that person left the band), nowadays they mainly use 4 people for vocals, with different configurations depending on the song.

    Your analysis is great!
Many evaluators' style is to simply play the video, then pause and give a quick review. I've always liked it because it's easy to relate to and can be enjoyed in a short amount of time.
But your points of interest and instrumental extraction/analysis are as interesting as ever. Your video clip is a bit long, but I enjoyed it and lost track of time.
This band will be fun to analyze, so I hope you'll give it a try one after another. However, no matter how much time you have, it will never be enough!
