I distinctly heard: "I confess that I was involved in an illegal hunting trip in India five years ago along with several prominent officials from the Mayor of Atlantic City's office, and that said trip was financed with misappropriated public funds meant for the renovation of the Home for Crippled Orphans."

The fact that Blade Runner 2049 isn't nominated for best picture, let alone other nominations that it didn't get is criminal.

is not criminal, is just the PC culture. Of course the "minorities" get all the prize, straight white males being toxic? ewww, no.

If it did get nominated, it wouldn't be a true sequel to the original.

  • @yostoyou

The only thing I enjoyed were the visuals (not surprising considering the director).
Strickland was the most overly evil character I've ever seen. It was honestly really silly and made me chuckle a couple of times.
The whole movie just feels very "Disney". The way they tried to make the main character into some kind of quirky Disney princess complete with a musical daydream just made me cringe.
At some point she makes one of the most nonsensical decisions ever for the sake of an audience collectively going "aaaaw".
I may have gone in to this movie expecting something more of a monster movie with a strange love subplot, but this type of movie is something I can never enjoy regardless of expectations.

Judging by the trailer and some of the reviews, it seems this flick is yet another conservatism-bashing-festival with religion and tradition cast as cartoony villains. That would certainly explain the tidal wave of oscar nominations. In other words - no, thank you.

I liked Pan's Lab. and mostly enjoyed Hellboy, but didn't care much for Shape of Water. Probably because of the focus on romance. I don't mind a good romance in a film, but I want interesting elements to be built around that, not for it to be the focus.

Shape of Water was a lazy, half assed, feel good film with poorly written characters, shit tons of loopholes, and only serves to give a hamfisted liberal message that is almost necessary for a movie to make it in Hollywood these says. So of course it wins best picture

Do you think Abe Sapien from Hellboy films/comics is a better fish humanoid man who is of human level intelligence and is a consenting adult who can have a relationship with another consenting adult of a different race (human, furry, xeno, mutant or cyborg) and his romance with the elf woman was done better than here as the asset is more animalistic minded and more on the level of Ferringo's Hulk or a wild animal with a child-like mind?

I was so nervous to see this pop up in my sub box, I didn't know if you would hate this movie or not! It's definitely my favorite movie to come out of 2017, personally, and del Toro is my favorite director. I followed the production of the movie for months and months since it was announced del Toro would be making it and wasn't disappointed when I finally got to see it. God the ending was beautiful. However I definitely agree that Michael Shannon was snubbed- he played the evil sonuvabitch role so well and the scenes with his finger were acted out so amazingly.

I loved the imagination of Pan's Labyrinth but I absolutely hated that it depresses you through the entire thing and leaves you depressed even after it's over. I wanted to love that movie but I hate it because it doesn't give you anything in return for putting you through depressing moment after depressing moment and that's not the kind of writing that I want in my movies. I hope this one is better and it probably will be better.

this movie was straight forward and boring and nonsensical. Michael Shannon had no ambiguity or shade of grey. The movie was black and white with good and evil. There was no redeeming qualities for Shannon. the main character is somehow left alone for hours on end, out in the open with a sea creature. It just doesn't make any sense and the movie is a series of hugging and romance between mute characters and shannon looking for them. It's just ridiculously over the top and tries too hard and doesn't deserve a nomination for anything, other than maybe costume and set design. I did not feel the love between the 2 main characters and it felt entirely forced and contrived that they both have this disability. In my opinion, better than an average schlock horror movie, but worse than practically any blockbuster this year with a decent budget. Just completely overrated.
If you're looking for a romantic movie that is actually good, look no further than "The Big Sick". 100x better of a film.
