    This is how I imagine the conversation went to bring Floor onboard to sing the operatic vocals at the end of the video:
    *Joakim:* Christmas Truce is almost finished, as a song. But I want to drive home how miraculous this is. We need something...
    *Pär:* Like what?
    *Joakim:* I don't know, maybe someone to sing operatic vocals? Do we know anyone that can do this?
    *Hannes:* Let me call my home. I do know someone who can sing operatic vocals for us, if she's willing...

      My version has Floor being in a very boring meeting with Nuclear Blast (Nightwish and Sabaton's label) when she gets a text:
      **Hannes:** Honey, can you record some operatic vocals for us?
      **Floor:** Be right there, dear. :red_heart:

    If you’re going to watch live performances from Sabaton you need to watch 40:1 live at Woodstock Poland. The crowd numbered between 550,000 and 600,000 people in attendance.

    "to be able to look in your enemy's eyes and see them I think as a person right, not just an enemy, and then having to recommence the battle... that would be extremely difficult"
    You're absolutely right. In several locations where the Christmas truce took place, the participating soldiers had to be rotated out with fresh troops because they refused to fight their new friends. In some cases they were sent to the eastern front as a form of punishment, since the fighting there was a lot more brutal.
    ...
    I think... it's incidents like this that stand as kind of a testament to humanity's true nature. We are capable to great violence yes, but at the end of the day we're a social species. Most of us *want* to be friends with other people - even the weird foreign guys in the trench a couple dozen meters away who've been trading bullets and grenades with us for the past few months.

    Sabaton is said to make music that makes you proud of a country that isn't yours... I'd say it goes further than that, it makes you understand the mindset and emotions of soldiers, regardless their country. My country hasn't had a army for the last 74 years... And yet I feel I can understand those soldiers, even being a pacifist. Few bands can even get close.
    Keep up with the good work.

    I was waiting for this one! It's such a gripping song, an incredible story, packaged beautifully. Definitely one of my favourites. You didn't mention it, but did you catch Floor's vocals during the end credits?
    I love 'Soldier Of Heaven' as well, which is another one of their recent songs. I also enjoy oldies like 'Carolus Rex' and 'Swedish Pagans' (playing that song live is kind of a running joke between the fans and the band).

    Hi! Swedish gal here.... Thought of the difficulties that can be when you don't have some letters.... Maybe you've already sorted this out, but in case you haven't....
    Press Alt and then enter the code on the number pad on the right. "Num Lock" must be enabled.
    å = 134
    ä = 132
    ö = 148
    Å = 143
    Ä = 142
    Ö = 153
    å is thus Alt + 134.
    Hopefully this helps!
    Great reactions, keep it up! 💯

    I think it is one of the greatest anti war songs. It just portrais perfectly why war is so stupid.
    As one comment under the original videos says. Where the kid ask why they started fighting again after they played together.

    War is the worst humanity has to offer, but war can bring out the best humanity has to offer. This truce was an example of this. They celebrated the holiday with people who were far more similar each other then people from their own country who have not gone through the horrors of the war. They celebrated in solidarity with each other.
    There is a great movie about this event, "joyeux noel" it's a very hopeful and tragic movie, showing the horrors of war but also the light that can shine through it using this event as an example.

  • @athlonen
    @athlonen 2 роки тому +7

    As you mentioned that you weren't totally familiar with the story, this actually did occur, and was the only time in any war that an unofficial truce ever occurred. During WW1, both sides were basically told that this conflict would be over by Christmas. It wasn't, for as we know, it went on for 4 years. We in the Us didn't get involved until around 1917, when the Germans sank the Lusitania, so we were out of it until then. But this was during the first year of WW1. When Christmas time came in 1914, even the Pope at the time pleaded for a ceasefire just because of Christmas. No joy. However, at this time at a given battlefront, on Christmas, one side heard carols being sung, then afterwards, the other side sang a carol which was heard on the first side. One by one as you saw with Hannes, they came out of the trenches and greeted each other, smoked cigarettes, drank, and even played football/soccer. They exchanged gifts, and celebrated Christmas. Unfortunately, when the war resumed; some of the troops refused to fight, because they realized they would be killing the friends they just made. But as you can tell, the war resumed.
    After 1914, commands were given that there would be no more truces or anything like this on the grounds of court martial, so this was the only time this had ever happened in the middle of a war.
    One of the things that is big about Sabaton, as you can tell, is that they make everything historically accurate. Nothing biased, or anything of the sort; they are simply telling the story. We in the US didn't really get this story because we joined the war so late, but to those in Europe, this event is as big as the Berlin Wall coming down in 1989/1990.
    The cross they put up actually exists; I want to say it is somewhere in Belgium, but the town it is in escapes me.

    • @isaiahwelch8066

      @@JTMMTV : Just goes to show that even in the darkest of days, in the hell that is war on Earth, some semblance of humanity can shine through.
      What hits me the most, is that perhaps it is because of the darkness and the horrors of war, that what shines so bright can be seen so clearly. One of the things I've always known is that soldiers who fight always say that nobody who has ever gone to war, ever wants to go again, and that those who have never fought don't know what how hard it is to fight a war. I've also heard it said that those who go to war do so, so that those they love never have to, and that while everyone they know sleeps at night, they stand the lonely vigil of securing the peace everybody enjoys.
      Such is the life of those that serve.

      @@najroe : Not true. A newborn child, who otherwise would be healthy, can be destroyed inhumanely because of the actions of it's parents -- and I know of one such child. The mother smoked, drank, and did drugs while she carried the child. It almost would have been better for the child if it had died.
      The sins of war and the sins of people aren't really all that different, the main difference being one of scale.

    They are labeled as power metal but I would like to call them Metalbards. The Russians on the eastern front tried to make an Easter peace, but because they belong to the Russian Orthodox Church, a different calendar is used where Easter has a different date than the Christian Church, so the Russians who tried to climb out of the trenches were shot down by the Germans.

    Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany ..great reaction as always..you mention the voice and reading the telephon book. What is kind of funny. Not long ago in the Netherlands. Floor on Tour and Promotion., on TV shows, on the Radio. And somewhere there this phrase came to Floor by an Interviewer. That she could just read the telephonbook and it would sounds beautyful. There's a short video of this happening. You know Floor, she asked for the Phonebook and read some names, adresses, numbers. And damn, sounds so wonderful. And the fact that is was a dutch book makes it even better ☺ stay safe, my friend
