Thanks for this. I’ve taken the pan off a few times. Never realised there’s (or should be) a clip at the front, so always struggle to hold it up with one hand while doing the bolts. I’ve actually been known to swear while doing it! Next time I’ll see what’s up with the clip.
Not all these old wagens have the original bolts, and I actually don't think mine did when they were new. Maybe not all the same :/ VW have even dispensed with these pans altogether which I think is a shame.

at 2.05 the small arms - mine wont unbolt the nut just spins - would it sensible to grind these arms off?
The side bolts have a built in washer.
